| First, I should start right off the bat and state that the descriptor for this show is totally misleading. This show is nowhere near as global or as political as they [meaning the people whoever came up with the descriptor for this title] make it seem. This show is hardly intellectual....but that's not necessarily a bad thing, just that it's not going to be what you might expect it to be if you just read that description.
The show basically centers around a boy and group of pirates on the planet Mars and they are fighting the Earth Army for one cause or another then they go off treasure hunting around the planet. It has one of those underlying “Fight the Establishment” messages in the show, but in all actuality the show really doesn't take itself too seriously.....and after a few eps. I don't think we, the viewers, are expected to either. Which is to say that this show is pretty much another easygoing, lite, piece of anime fluff that with the exception of a few foul words make it a show for kids.

| THE CHARACTERS:
The characters have no depth at all.
We have Moby Dick in a battlesuit, a talking cat, a fat ugly captain, a little boy who wants to become a hero but is a crybaby, a mindreading girl...why is she onboard of that ship anyway?? how is she a pirate and what is here purpose?...and then the hero of the story who is so light-headed that it hurts...he talks about those little orphant kids he wants to protect...by leaving them in poverty back in the slums?? what the....
oh and there is Vess...the only character so far I actually did like...but she's emo and has particular nothing to do with story....
THE STORY:
there is no story. a boy finds a mecha (where did it come from all of a sudden and why is he able to run it, if he never used one before?) joins a pirate ship which has a lot of people calling theirselves pirates...but in the end non of them has any pirate-like abilites...(Kubernes on the other side really looks and behaves like one, yet is not part of the main staff)
FUN:
there is no humor in this series....well at least I didn't laugh at any point.....it's just boring

| Once in a while one must kick back, stretch a bit and enjoy the lighter side of anime, setting aside the critic eye and simply going with the flow of the series. Perhaps my opinion of this series would've been worse had I watched it some other time, but for the present moment...it just hit the spot.
The Mars Daybreak (MD for short) is almost a run of the mill mecha series, tickling my soft spot: journeys.
Set in a more original setting, MD is not intent on doing something grand or awe-inspiring. It set its purpose on being entertaining and, in all due honesty, it achieved it with great ease. It's hard to get mad at a series that is this honest with its goals and that shows such efficiency in conveying to its viewers the light-hearted feel that the pirate life is supposed to entail.

| Finally finished it all. Overall, this is fluff anime. The writers were making it pretty campy. Nothing deep or mind blowing and a pretty lackluster storyline and characters. Adding more romance would have helped a lot because there was really nothing to pique my interest. With talking cats and whales you can't really expect too much from this anime. The animation was pretty good and I did like the music. Being as this was from Bones, I was pretty dissapointed. I expected a lot more.

| A very enjoyable anime.
Unfortunately, I personally think that it could have been just a little more than that: it sarted with some very good ideas and it had some very interesting turns of events, but overall, I think that the excitement kind of went thinner and thinner as the episodes went by.
It is nonetheless a good watch with good CGs and general story.

| The soundtrack is beautiful, so are the character development. They grow on you episode by episode (up to 20 now) and the story becomes more and more interesting as it goes on. On the surface it may seem like a typical pirate story of treasure hunt but what is different is that they are hunting for a treasure of humankind not gold or other treasure. The characters and the soundtrack makes this one of my personal favorites!

| Viewed up to ep 13
Well decided to write review since there probably won't be any more fansubs.
I have to admit this anime really doesn't have much depth but it has been far more enjoyable that a lot of other shows I've watched. What appeals to me is the fact that the makes a very concious effort not to take itself seriously... its just fun. The main enjoyment is just watching the characters with their quirks. That being said the story seemed to be getting somewhere from the last few eps, but still the main plot (such as it is) was always in the background. This won't be a classic, or perhaps even memorable but it was fun to watch

| Many of the greatest stories ever told have been in anime form. Kenran Butou Sai, however, isn't one of them. But it has no pretention of being so. But that's ok, because even without a great story, you can be a great anime, using characters, mysteries, suspense, or heck, just some good ole sports anime tension.
Well, Kenran Butoh Sai doesn't have that either. But hey, that's ok, because all I really wanted from the show was some good ole fashioned mecha action. I think you can guess what I'm going to say...it doesn't have that either, or at least very little of it.
There just isn't very much substance to KBS, and nothing standout in it. It can be fairly enjoyable at times, but as of now, I can pretty much definitively say it's not a great anime. Not even really a good one. I can, however, say, it's not bad.
I'm still watching it though, because it is a little cheery sort of entertainment, but I don't exactly rush to see the next episode. The mistake animenfo made with Teabreak instead of Daybreak is remarkably apt. Not recommended, but at least I won't mock you for watching it.

| This review is as of Episode 11:
This is yet another show that I gave up on before I ever started watching it and once again I was wrong. What really brought me in was the setting. It's a very interesting view on the future and life on Mars. This show seems to be finished with its filler and character building episodes, so let's hope that it can live up to its potential so far.
Overall Grade so far: B-

| First of all, a few corrections to the title is in order. :)
This anime (which is actually spelled out in Romaji & English in the opening credits) is titled, Kenran Butoh Sai The Mars Daybreak, NOT Teabreak.
The variation that was listed in June 2004 edition of NewType is Kenran Butosai. This would be correct IF it was the game (which this series is based off of), NOT the anime.

| I've seen only first 8 episodes and I'm writing only about these.
First of all I've found that this is something like FMP/Patlabor (Yes there are robots... no they aren't the central point of the serie).
The political, economical and social system is only briefly described but, at the same time, really well drawn.
There's a occupying force and there's a lot of unemployment, and pirates who try to get some money and a better quality of life.
Characters aren't really well developed in the beginning (expecially Vess) but they evolve on the way (ouch, it could need 26+ episodes to develop all the characters), and someone pops out from the middle of nowhere.
The amazing thing of this anime is that, right now, it's really funny!
There aren't "fillers", there aren't "common" situations!
Each episode is really enjoyable and you'll understand the real point on this serie only after some, it won't focus on one story-situation-reason but throws in people and subplots (some really linear like the "wannabe pilot" and some grotesque).
At this point the serie is alive, a lot of mysteries are come out and the situation is not really going to a specified point (i.e. no CliffHanger yet) but it surely is enjoyable.
The music isn't something you'll remember in years but plays well (expecially when you hear it more than once); the animation is good and the characters are really well drawn (it means you'll have 12 different people nad you won't see 12 clones with different hair color, hair style or dress like sometimes happen) and the story is nothing really deep (that's a PRO if you consider an Anime like something you want to SEE and not to DISSECT).
Sorry for the long post, it's my first post here.

| Now it's time for a rewrite. When I watch the first episode, I thought it will be a war drama type just like Gundam, which they fight under water instead in space. We can see the conflict between the Earth "Federation" Forces goes against the pirates. I think this is the most interesting part that keeps me to watch "Kenran Butoh Sai." However, after later episodes, it appears that the priates are going to search for something instead going throat to throat with the Earth Forces. That's kind of confusing. If the main plot of this anime is about searching for something very valuable, then why the staffs have to present the Earth Forces and the politics on Mars? In earlier episodes, the priates are kind of doing their things for the poor. And now they are going on an adventure... just like in early part of Gundam X!! Uhhh, the plot is just kind of confusing.
Speaking of mech designs and the story setting, the submarine is a bit like the one in Full Metal Panic to me. The setting is also a bit similar to Crossbone Gundam (It's a manga, you can't find it in the anime section.), which is also about a bunch of pirates with a female captain. The difference is that the pirates in Crossbone Gundam are the survivors of the Crossbone Vanguard at the Cosmo Babylonia War at UC 123 (See Gundam F-91), but pirates from Kenran Butoh Sai were just a group of people that were struggle under Mars' government policies.
The development of plot is kind of disappointing. I thought this anime will be more like a priates who go against the Earth force for the sake of all prople in Mars, but it was different after later episode. Even though the usage of Gahm's neckles is explained, the explaination about the event in the first episode at later episodes didn't make any sense. The pirates' adventure started at midway, tons of unexpected junk episodes that didn't contribute to the story were presented. A twist was presented at later episodes and made the story back into a somehow interesting mark. Side switching was also expected, but I don't really understand why the pirate leader (Not Elizabeth) joined forces with the antagonist. It's like he was using the Earth politician for profit or something, yet I got quite confused. The departure of Yagami was also meaningless. I guess he has his own way to do things. His explanation of the definition of "Kenran Butoh" didn't even contribute to the story at all. The definition was also meaningless except for the ways of piloting. How does that contribute to the main story anyway? A happy ending was also expected, but the last encounter is something just "rapping up everything." Everyone achieved the impossible and an unexpected villain had helped and made toward an expected ending? That really is surprising, yet made his/her affair against the protagonist meaningless (except for money, of course.). Also, here's one stupid event at the last encounter: Why Gahm wants to leave behind and not escaping? If he's escaping like the others, the pursuers may not come out alive, and he can eliminate the enemy without damaging his own MS!! That's just didn't make any sense. Why not just dump the whole MS under the sea?
I'm kind of disappointing on this series. Since it's licensed, you can give it a shot if you dare when DVD is out. If you like adventure type, this may be good for you. But I personally believe that Gundam X did a much better job on adventure then "Kenran Butoh Sai."

| After ten episodes, this is one of the biggest disapointments of the year. I had really high hopes, seeing that this is from BONES. Its shown nothing so far to set it appart from the shows that it took from. The animation is mouth-watering, and the music is cool, pirate tunes, but other than that its quite shallow. The plot isnt going anywhere, but the biggest disappointment is the characters. Most of them are basically taken from other shows, except for the main character. He's "unique". And by unique I mean that he has absolutely no personality whatsoever. He might just be the most boring character of all time. Im really hoping that the show will come through, but as of now it doesnt look likely.

| "Mars TEAbreak"? ahem allow me to laugh for a moment. Then allow me to laugh at all the cliches that start this nicely animated series. We have a main character who is sort of a surrogate father to two children. A kind of a happy-go-lucky sort. He has this magic pendant that causes him to end up in this special mecha (which are called Round Bucklers) and then finally ends up on the side of what are initially introduced as "enemy of the (mars/earth whatever) military" the crew of the ship called Daybreak (NOT Teabreak! lol).
Further on I'm sure this side turns about to be a group of jolly people fighting for the Right Cause (tm) and Against The Oppression (tm). Now our main character Grahm - The misspelled Graham will become romantically involved with this cold, military type woman who happens to serve on the opposite side and she soon joins the Daybreakers etc.
I also see the introduction of a dark, mysterious bad guy in the not too distant future who, I suppose, pilots the same kind of Round Bukka--- Buckler that our Grahm does. Who knows maybe the bad guy turns out to be a relative of Grahm. Father... Brother maybe?
Is there NO END to recyclism in anime?! Can't they think of ANYTHING original anymore? Why must everything be always more or less copied from some already existing show? GOOD GRIEF.
Anyway. On to the more detailed review.

| very promising. its the same thing as Full Metal Panic but in different setting of an earth-like mars. yes there r submarines and mechas just like FMP but instead of being antiterrorist group, theyr pirates. story though is different, but i still got no concrete idea of where it is heading (just watched 2 eps anyways).
only things i dont like are the dolphin in the suit and the captain who looks sometimes like an old guy and sometimes like an old lady (its an old lady btw).
i hope this will turn out as i expect. give it a try though.
btw, where the hell does that mecha that rescues the guy come from?
UPDATED
well, now at ep. 22 and i'm barely keeping up my interest in this series. character development is almost zero, plus some of em r so annoying. story is interesting but has too many cracks if that makes any sense. watch it for few eps, then decide to either continue or stop.
