| With only 60 minutes to make a story, Mizuiro 2003 does an excellent job of balancing both the comedic and dramatic elements of the plot. It knows exactly who to focus on when, when to insert a dramatic background music, when to insert a visual gag etc. It's timing is perfect, and if it were longer, it could very well be a contender in the over-populated field of bishoujo game spin-off's. It's a very good watch, and I can only hope the Mizuiro OAV series's don't end here!

| Sometimes an anime can be enjoyable simply because it is much better than you expected it to be; by virtue of exceeding your standards, the whole affair manages to redeem itself. This sort of anime comes around once in a blue moon, but I am pleased to say that Mizuiro is one of these rare kinds. I first downloaded this two-episode OVA series with my mind set on absolutely nothing but a pile of agitating rom-com nonsense and tired dating-sim cliches, and make no mistake -- Mizuiro had plenty. The value of this anime is displayed, however, in the fact that Mizuiro is far more genuine in its intent than most other animes of this nature. Something behind all of the genericness and contrivances suggest that this series has good intentions overall.
Granted, the story is nothing special...a childhood promise transcends life and death, love triangle fun, etc. The beauty in Mizuiro, however, lies in the subtlety of the affair. All of the pathos is decidedly understated, and for that reason that much more effective. Characters never have any hysterical bawling fits, there are a grand total of zero confessions of undying love (merely friendship, which makes it all sound sweet and not cliched), and very few if any panty shots mar the series. Mizuiro is not a cheap, sloppy fanservice OVA, nor does it consider itself one, and it definitely shows in the final product.

| before I review this, I must say that I've never seen the previous ova before(2000 version) nor the game (which is a hentai game I think) but I must say this one is an outstanding anime drama.
to start with, even though this one is based on hentai games, the movie itself doesn't have any ecchi scene which is a rarity since most anime based h-games usually had one (kimi ga nozomu eien for example), but that doesn't mean it's bad, in fact it make this movie enjoyable to any ages and give it a better review since it doesn't rely on ecchi things.
the story itself is about childhood memories and love triangle with happy ending. Actually I kinda suprised with the ending part since from the middle to near end of the movie I had thought this one gonna be sad story (I wont give spoiler, because it's worth if you watch it yourself ^_^'), the storyline is quite unexpected and had a very good plot to bring your emotion.
and if should the creator create an alternate ending which is a (almost) sad version I think it's going to be a good one too.
as for animation, sound and other technical aspect it's nicely done, especially the graphic/animation part which is up to my expectation for a short OVA.
If you're looking for a good, short length, touching anime drama, this is one of it's kind you shouldn't even miss :)

| Touching, well done love triangle romantic drama, amazing animation quality, a great BGM OST and OP/EDs, immaculate character development for just an hours worth of show...might even bring a tear to your eye (brought many to mine)...quite a feat for such a short series: the length is my only gripe, but if left to me, I would probably have not been able to do any better. A must watch for the ren-ai romance anime fan. Its only an hour, so even if this genre isnt your cup of tea, give it a watch. I doubt you will be disappointed ^_^
One of the most well done 2-OVA animes I have ever seen, still one of my favorite overall series to date. Although it doesn't really follow the authoritative plot from the original game by NekoNekoSoft it was based from, I think this OVA did a way better job telling a story for the general viewer than the original OVA did (Censored H-based one).
An exquisitely told story of friendship combined with a tasteful use of often considered cliche elements of these romance anime (like childhood promises, does it never get old =P)...along with the awesome animation and music quality make this one of my favorite fansubs to watch.

| I loved Mizuiro as soon as I saw the screenshots of it. I saw this OVA about a year ago, and still I love the overall feeling of it. Yuki, Hiyori, and Kenji's love triangle is great, and it's not overly sweet. The animation is fluid and rather original, and the music is catchy and fits the tone of the series perfectly. Kind of makes me want Yuki as my little sister, heh. A definite must see, avaliable on fansubs.

| This short 2ep OVA is a big step further from the crappy H-OVA 2 years ago. It manages to convey all the important feelings without the use of any ecchi at all!
The story is extremely well done considering it is only 2ep long. There are lot of pathos and sympathy involved and for the first time I've ever seen, this story actualy focuses on the 2 girls instead of the guy.
This OVA can do without any of the side characters, but I guess putting them in is just to make sure it is consistent with the game. The good thing is that the story only focuses on the 3 main characters rather than try to fit all the girls into the anime. The background and flashback of them are done really well and convey the feelings really well to the audience.
Sound is well done, and the kiddie sound of Hiyori is deliberately done like that to convey her still being a little child.
This is a really good short romance anime, and for the first time I will have to say that this 2ep OVA has just the right length, any longer and it will start to drag on with the story.
This is probably one of the little Japanese gem that will never make it across to the North America markets, but I will have to say that it is these kind of good anime that separates the Japanese cartoons and the North American cartoons.

| Ine a few words, this anime can be described as heart-warming and touching.
This anime is based off a H-game of the same name but this one is a clean version of that. Though, i have yet to see the hentai version, i doubt it can do better than this great anime OVA.
First off, this anime is entrancing, its animation and designs were nice to look at, and very flawless, with only one or two mistakes but really really minor.
The Opening theme is brilliant as with the ending theme, with the overall soundtrack being nice.
But as some OVAs suffer from, it is hindered with its length and its story/characters. 2 Episodes is not enough for this anime, at least 4 more should have been used to cover the development of characters and also extend the story. But from what there is, it is nicely put with some good character relations placed in with a pretty decent story.
Overall, a suprise hit for me, touching and heart-warming, this is a nice 1 hr childhood/romance story for anyone.

| In 2002, NekoNeko released a censored H-OVA of their graphic novel game which featured the characters shown in that 1st Mizuiro OVA. Being based off an H-game, you expected the bare breast and sex scenes.
In 2003, the 2nd Mizuiro OVA was released and this time around the animation has been raised considerably and the focus has been changed to be more romantic (and sensible. Anyone who has seen the first OVA should know what I mean). With the shift in focus, those expecting more sex from Yuki and the gang will be disappointed. This time the story is much more balanced (all of the girls get screen time) and enjoyable.
Another thing important to note is that the 2nd OVA is a complete retelling of the 1st OVA. The story is presented a million times better this time around but still, it is the same basic story. If you had to pick between one of the two OVAs, the 2nd wins hands down.
Overall, if the whole romantic deal is your thing, then try to hound this one out! It doesn't look like it'll be around much longer. This is definately not for everyone.

WAAAYY better than the hentai one that pink pineapple released.
Good story, albeit a bit short. Makes a good afternoon showing.
Characters are well drawn, and animation is fluid enough. Very catchy OP song.
A must watch!
Here's my real review:
Mizuiro 2003: A short OAV that manages to weave a story as intricate as most 13 episode series, too bad the producers didn`t take it that far with the potential they had.
Animation: Very well done. Since it came from an OAV, I was expecting more than average animation. Each character was drawn very well, with no sudden style changes between each frame. Characters blink, and facial expressions are clear enough to convey emotion central to the story.
Sound: Pretty nice, with a mix of piano instrumentals and ochestrals. The music plays it`s role when its needed, whether during a dramatic scene or a happy scene. Still, it`s only 2 episodes, so don`t expect the calibur of music found in Kanon or Kimi ga Nozomu Eien. The opening song, ~sora no tsuduki~, was very good catchy and the melody was stuck in my head for a long time.
Story: The strongest part of this anime. This anime had a very decent story, with Yuki and his past childhood friend Hiyuri. Very sad and emotional, but there are cliches. The story for Mizuiro could have spanned a full 13 episode anime, but the producers didn`t take it that far. From a drama standpoint, the story could go up against Kanon or Da Capo, but it`s length prevents it from doing so. The part about Hiyuri being a ghost made this story different and unique from other dating sim to anime conversion.
Character: The three main characters, (Yuki, Hiyuri, and Kenji) were very likeable, although Yuki`s character was waayy too much cliched. (c`mon, a sister with no blood relation? haven`t we heard this somewhere? cough..cough...Wind, Da Capo...) Hiyuri was the best character, although the ending was concentrated on her, she wasn`t developed enough. Sucks for this anime being only 2 episodes.
Value: Since it`s only a 2 episode OAV, I can`t really value this much in the sense that it ends too quickly and the story seemed rushed. If this was made into a 90 minute movie, than the score here would be much higher.
Enjoyment: Overall, I really enjoyed Mizuiro 2003. Nice for a short drama fix, but really nothing else. It`s length is its main weakness. If it was longer, I would put it on a list along with Kanon, Da Capo, and Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien.
Note: The nnl subs for this anime were some the best, with very nice grammar and encoding. Their use of "directional subs" was very smart for this type of anime.

| Mizuiro 2003 (the non-adult one, don't mistaken it for its adult predecessor Mizuiro) is definitely a short and sweet anime. It's a story about childhood friends, memories, and light romance. Quite an underrated anime in my opinion, Mizuiro's animation falls nothing short of high quality animation and the nice background music with great opening and ending pieces that really adds to the overall enjoyment.
The greatest flaw of the series: length. Being only two OVAs there were many characters that fell into your typical anime cliches without much personality, since you can only do so much in two episodes. Although I'm pretty sure had Mizuiro 2003 been something like 13 episodes and it kept up its pace, Mizuiro may have been as memorable as other series such as Kanon.
However, for just two OVAs, Mizuiro 2003's story is coherent, plays out well, and is much better done than a lot of other animes I've seen. It is one of those animes that leaves you feeling warm and fuzzy afterwards (I think that's a good thing). For those people who need action etc., I suggest you avoid this series as it is more of the slice-out-of-life anime more than anything else.
Overall, being so short, Mizuiro 2003 is worth a look and if you don't like it, it won't waste much of your time...

| For two short OVA you don't get much of a story but you do get excellent animation and pure enjoyment from it. You also get cute well drawn out characters that really fit into their personality.
But since it's so short it would probably should be labelled as a filler type of anime series.But just because it is a filler, doesn't mean it's not entertaining. It very much is, but don't expect TOO much from it. All in all, I enjoyed watching Mizuiro 2003.

| Eine süße kleine OVA mit tollem Soundtrack, klasse Animationen und Knuddelcharme. Die OVA ist ziemlich kurz aber Mizuiro 2003 bietet in knapp 60 Minuten ein warmherziges kleines Romance-Drama das zwar nicht unbedingt vom Hocker reißt jedoch schön anzusehen ist und das Herz erweichen lässt. Die Story ist für nur 2 Eps recht gut und auch die Charaktere sind, nicht zuletzt wegen dem drolligen Design, liebenswert und sympathisch. Für nur 2 Eps ist Mizuiro gar nicht mal so schlecht gelungen und ich würde jedem dem auch Animes wie "Kanon" gefallen haben empfehlen einen Blick zu riskieren.
