| While this anime was good in my opinion, it had the potential to be so much better. If they had only taken a little more consideration when writing the ending and laid off of the ecchi it could have been an incredible fantasy. The story has too much in it to describe properly in here so I won't go into it. But as some people said already, the ending was where it fell down. I wanted so badly for things to happen that didn't, or didn't happen the way they should have, so that was my main problem with the show. The other downfall was the ecchi, it spoiled the fantasy mood of the show at points and made some of the characters annoying at times. Other than that this anime was beautiful, the characters looked great and while their personalities weren't incredibly original, they were entertaining. The fantasy scenery slew me, as did the music. The only thing that gets me is this show had the potential to be so much more if more effort had been put into making it great. The story, if a few bugs were ironed out, would have been fantastic and with a little work done on the characters they would have been great as well. A re-vamp of the ending and a few minor things in the beginning of the series and this anime would be in the top 30.

| Yami to Boushi to Hon Tabitho (Such a long anime name) was a good anime, but it would have been better if the story wasn't so confusing. But it had to be confusing, because it was made from a H game.
Animations are nice and pretty. The colors flow very well. I liked it. It is pretty. It made me smile when I watched it. It made me want to watch more. It was beautiful. Why am I talking in fragments. I don't know. But the animations were really pretty and good. Everything is good from the character designs to the background. Gets a 9, because it's not perfect like some animes.
The OP of Yami to Boushi to Hon Tabitho was such a good song. I can still remember the first sentence of it. Aitai aenai ima doko ni .... BLAH! I don't think you want to hear me type the whole lyrics to the song. But the OP song was one of the best songs I've ever heard for an opening. The ending wasn't good at all. It wasn't even ok, because it was bad. And didn't sound as good as the OP. They should have just made the OP song the ED song as well. The background music is nothing special. Same old action anime tunes you hear in every anime. The voice acting for this anime is fine as well. Not amazing, but I did like Hatsuki's voice actor. I think she did a good job and did really well with her anime character.
The story is really confusing. One episode it starts us off pretty well, but then suddenly your in a different place. Two episodes later .... HUH!?!?! You're in a different place again. Two episodes later ...... HUH!?!?! What another place and you can see this happens for the rest of the anime. You meet a whole bunch of characters due to all this skipping around. But once you are done with the two episodes with the characters they dissapear and we see a whole new cast. WHAT!?!?! What just happened. Oh well, I'll tell you what I understand about this anime. A girl named Hatsuki is in love with a girl named Hatsumi. Yes, it's a girlxgirl love anime or game or whatever. But I don't mind it. I'll watch any anime that looks interesting. But then Hatsumi dissapears and so Hatsuki is off to find her. And then she lands in all these different worlds trying to find Hatsumi. Pretty weird and confusing at the same time, but some of the episodes were good like the episodes that actually made sense.
The characters are kind of plain. We have your tomboy girl who wields a sword. I don't know how she got a sword, but well she needs to fight the evil villains of the monsters.
Hatsuki was a cool character. I liked her, but there was a part of me that didn't like her. Because she was so plain and didn't have that much character development in the anime. Hatsumi was so evil. I didn't like her. Why does she have to disappear when she loves Hatsuki? If she loved Hatsuki why did she have to leave? Hatsuki = GOOD. Hatsumi = EVIL!
Half of the other character's were good, but the others were annoying and then they just disapper for the rest of the anime.
I don't know. If you love an anime that has pretty graphics and a wonderful OP, but a louisy storyline. Then this is the anime for you. But if you are a storyline freak and want to understand what you are watching then this anime is certainly not for you.

| Now to get on with the review of Yuri to Boushi to Hon no Tabibito... hmm? There are a few things that stand out when you watch Yamibou. One, it has a lot of lesbian love going on. Two, it has a lot shapely girls. Three, it doesn't progress linearly. Four, it's weird.
Starting with points three and four: I don't think Yamibou is really that confusing. Sure, because of the non-linearity things don't make sense at first, but the series does explain itself at most points quickly, like the origin of the characters. The main point however is clear from the beginning: Hatsuki, our passionete boyish lover girl, is after her unrequited love, sweet Hatsumi. With Lilith, the keeper of the "library" where all these worlds reside, and Ken-chan, crazy yellow parakeet, Hatsuki travels and meets different people with different problems. There are some other people after Hatsumi too, because see seems to be something called "Eve", a crucial part of the universe. Even though the different stories seem unrelated, they have a connection with each other and some characters share a common past. What makes things a bit confusing is that the series runs through these things randomly. In one episode you Hatsuki searching for Hatsumi, the next shows what happened to in Gargantua's past and Hatsuki's and Hatsumi's past gets cleared. It all (well almost all) makes sense but only if you remember the previous episodes so I would recommend that you watch this series rather quickly, in a week's time at max. The individual stories are random too, ranging from Siberian train adventure to samurai/ninja adventure. They are pretty simple too, nothing I could get overly excited about, some unhappy love stories mostly.
What the series does very well is the fanservice department. This is from a h-game and you can tell that a mile away. First there's the passionate, forbidden love Hatsuki has for Hatsumi. A lot of lonely, steamy nights for Hatsuki as she lives together in the same house with Hatsumi and is consumed by her closeness. When the story is in other worlds, there's many times some other girls either falling in love with Hatsuki or having little clothing on or both. Not to forget Lilith who has a thing for Hatsuki making their journey rather interesting.
Now is the time to pull the Kannazuki no Miko card. KnM was another yuri themed show with a very weird story. The saviour there was Chikane who just stole my heart. This time the role is played by Hatsuki and unfortunately the same magic isn't there. Although it's clear that Hatsuki's love is very deep and she suffers a great deal from her forbidden feelings for her friend, the series doesn't really do anything with this. She's only going after Hatsumi and nothing else. The same goes for Hatsumi: she's absent for the most of the series and all we are left are stories of the side characters, which don't reach the same heigths of passion as the main duo's, and the fanservice. Unfortunately the clumsy story wouldn't allow anything but deepest love and passion to keep it together. The result is something that feels very shallow. There's one episode that enhances the tragic love between Hatsuki and Hatsumi but that wasn't enough to keep me glued to my seat. The ending however is very good, when the passion makes its comeback as Hatsuki and Hatsumi meet again and the result is quite satisfying and bitter sweet.
So as far the characters go, there's the potential but it's not used. The main characters remain one-dimensional, Lilith is too weird to take seriously, the side characters lack the charisma to make them interesting.
There is anyhow a sad and longing mood in the series eminating from Hatsuki's search. When this is combined with the rather weird characters and odd humor, I couldn't help but be amused of it. Although the series lacks in both story and characters it's still very interesting to watch, just for the sense-of-wonder. This is amplified by the good soundtrack and very dedicated performances from the voice actors. The animation is quite beautiful and it too creates the compelling atmosphere the series has. The only other series that comes in to mind to compare this is Mushishi, which in every other aspect is very different and hugely superior to Yamibou. So no, if you liked Mushishi, there's little guarantee you'd like Yamibou.
So what's left after all is seen and done, is a series that has little content to fill it's overly complex structure. It has however a unique mood that is, with some uncanny trick, both sadly beautiful and fanservicely wacky at the same time. It's a rather special show and you definitely need to see it yourself really understand what's it all about.

| ok... this anime is a bit complicated. When i first started watching it, the first episode realy got me. So i was excited about the rest of the anime.... untill i watched the next few episodes. after watching the next 3-4 episodes i started wodnering where the connection between all this is and it also got a bit boring. a few weeks later i got myself somehow to start watching the rest of this anime.
and i have to say this is one of the few animes that realy cought me.
the music was pretty good espacialy the OP and the ED song are one of my favorites
the animation...well i cant complain about it its pretty good too
even if its a bit twisted , the charachters r oprobaply one of the best parts of this anime. each charachter has its own story.
the only thing thats a bit weird is the story. it starts pretty good then gets a bit sucky, then it realy catches you again and well the ending is probaply not everyones thing altho i realy liked it.
overall its one of my favorite animes

| Yami to Boushi to Hon no Tabibito (or Yamibou for short) takes a few episodes to really get going, but once it does it’s absolutely amazing, for a while. Unfortunately, as it approaches the end, it begins to stumble before diving head first into the abyss of suckieness. At first I was just like “What the <expletive deleted>?!” Upon further reflection it’s really quite impressive. In the final two episodes the writers somehow managed to completely destroy every single aspect of the plot. The main character’s story was brutalized the most by far, but they butchered every other character pretty well too, even the minor ones.
The art is quite good and so is the music. The OP is a bit odd, but pretty catchy once you’ve heard it a few times. I can’t say the same for the ED, but it’s not bad. The rest of the soundtrack generally fits very well with what’s going on.
The characters are great, weird as hell, but great which is even more of a reason why I was so upset when the writers completely destroyed the plot with the ending. If I had to give one reason in favor of this series it would definitely be it’s varied, often-hilarious cast of characters.
As for the story, the beginning is rather confusing and a little boring, but definitely forgivable. Five or six episodes in the middle are absolute gold. The last tolerable episode, 11, isn’t bad, but has some weird plot holes, and I didn’t enjoy it a whole lot. In retrospect it foreshadowed the horrors coming up in episodes 12 and 13 when everything completely fell apart. I’m not exaggerating, the last two episodes, are, except for a few humorous happenings appallingly horrible. Quite a bit makes no sense at all, and the rest is just awful and depressing. Despite how good about a 3rd of the series is, I honestly cannot recommend it as the ending as awful beyond all logical reasoning.

| I think that this an amazing series. If you want to see something that will make you pay attention because this show isn't something you should sleep on. It is agreat addition to the fantasy genre. If you don't mind anime with lesbians then watch this I implure you.
I think this series is like a breath of fresh air from all the other shows. The story that has been created is very rich and has some substance. The cup is not running over with substance but it has some.

| Hell if is not for the great op/ed song that I liked it so much I won't sit still and watch the whole series.
Anyone who think girl kiss girl would be a happy ending then you're the right kind to watch this series, if you think it's too weird or too intense for you, please don't hestitate to stop watching and go enjoy other things.
The animation was kinda blur and lust. You can always see the cloud with vivid color, also if you didn't notice this series is Shoujo Ai genre which mean girl love in english.
The sound is great, once again.. if it wasn't the great op song + super ed song I wouldn't brother watching this series. They pick the voice for each person base on character.. and not on face. As you can see they give tomboy female voice kinda like a guy. BGM is fine nothing much
Character planed out well, there're a lot of times where old chars appear later on. But if you looks it another way, it's mean that's they have no story or nothing new to show us whatsoever. The story didn't go nowhere. At the end, we still don't know how Adam and Gods battle each other, or who will won. All we know is that "Thouse girl who been responsible for organize the libary sure don't have one bit of responsible for themself or for us human." This sure bring us to conclusion that we(us) is nothing more than just a useless toy for Adam, the bored.

| I like the strange and mystical atmosphere of this show about wandering between worlds.
The animation is lush and the main character designs really nice. The colours tend to be soft rather than glossy, which suits the mood. The designs of Hazuki, Hatsumi and Lilith are really appealing - I guess since they were designed by Carnelian for an H game - I really like Hazuki's leg bandages and (of course) Lilith's big hat.
The OP and ED sounded strange at first, but they really grew on me. Noto Mamiko plays Hazuki, Shimizu Ai plays Hatsumi, and Kobayashi Sanae does really great as the annoying/dumb/careless Lilith (as well as singing the ED). BGM fits the mysterious tone of the show.
The story itself is adapted from an H game and doesn't bother to explain all that much - Hazuki and Lilith drift from world to world looking for Hatsumi - and lots of unexplained characters turn up and unexplained events occur. The concept is really interesting though they don't really do much with it. But somehow I didn't mind it: the impressionist depictions suited the piece as did the yearnings of various characters. The first half can be very confusing if you're unprepared for the worlds-within-worlds, stories-within-stories structure.
The characters are pretty charming, though many minor characters don't get much explanation or depth. Part of this is the short length of the series. Hazuki's pretty nice, I liked her identity confusion scene on the island. And I actually think Lilth is funny even though she's fairly noisy and dumb and sukebei. And the kansai-ben rocks!

| If you start watching this anime and the first two episodes confuse you, you are not alone. My personal reccomendation is to completely skip from the middle of episode one right on to episode three, and come back and watch the second half of the first episode and the entirety of the second later, when you know what's going on.
It's a fun anime to watch, though it's not all that deep, and the ending was a little unsatisfying.

| This anime is an interesting blend of Shoujoai and fan service. Since it is based off a H game, it is granted that the series is going to give some sort of fan services. But this time, they kicked it with a theme that is mainly a girl-girl action.

| There aren't many anime with a deep yuri (lesbian) overtones. This one does and it's a "love it or hate it" show. Put it this way, the story could be continued forever with Hatsuki travelling through a zillion books, thus creating an episodic advanture anime.
The story is confusing and some questions are unanswered. The music is ok. I liked the opening song. About the animation, I thought everything looked nice. There may not have been super high budget action scenes but the characters look pretty good.
To sum it all up, I really liked the yuri overtones and the character designs. Stay clear if you are looking for a clean and precise story

| with a cast of hot looking girls, a story wich leaves holes in it the size of my head! with Animations so "overdone" that it missed. yeah a man centered anime ... again :D
Animations:
Pff a little less Computer generated images and some more handdrawings wouldn't be a waiste. when leaving my personal taste out of it i cannot say more then wow. the cast (wich ofcourse are only females) is looking hot.
there where quite some times when i thought fuck the story turn this into an hentai! (wich goes against most of my believes)
Sound:
nice Opening song. rest is rather normal
Story:
dancing on a sharp blade wich on the 1 side Deleting and on the other side interresting. it somehow did turn out to entertain me. the story had a lot of loose ends. and "backgrounds" where mostly completly forgotten, this has a certain result the story holds so much back that you'll really only taste a nip of it, resulting into creating an illusion of it having more story ... wich then results into disliking as its overall not revealing nor letting you have the idea there is any story in it, wich i think is the case :) its yet an other anime with a poor story tryng to servive on its visual and audio. the lesbian thing totally didn't do the story good.
now i wonder ... why .. is there in anime always 1 girl who is obsessed with some sword. next Question: why would you wanna go oversea travel throught worlds go with strangers and stuff for a mute girl who is looking underaged? ...
Character:
Lesbian and some gay guy who turned nuts ... all dieing to meet Eve the younger sister . ppfff fuck me turn this into an hentai or turn it off.
Value:
man based, and not even fun.
Enjoyment:
its oke ... for male ... BUT JUST TURN IT INTO AN HENTAI!!! (if the creators are planning a season 2)

| I wish all hgame -> anime conversions could be as good as Yami is.
The animation and sounds are all first-rate and help to bring out a real 'fantasy' feel to the anime. The characters are all doing something to advance the plot, are explained (none of the common we'll-put-a-character-here-to-put-them-here garbage), and realy help drive what makes this anime stand out the most...it's story.
If you've ever seen the TV show Quantum Leap you'll know how the story is laid out in Yami. The episodes are often played out of order in relation to the overall story and in most episodes you see the end first, then go through what lead to the end. It was a little confusing at first, but after two or three eps that style of storytelling makes Hazuki and Ririsu's travles from world to world (or book to book) that much more interesting.
The ending is very well done and pretty much ties up all the loose ends that formed during the show, as well as putting all the mismatched episodes into perspective
So, we've got an outstanding hgame conversion with a great fantasy story, a fresh way of telling the story, and some shoujo-ai love =)
It's pretty hard to beat.
