| This wasn't a bad anime, per se, but it didn't live up to the expectations I had for it. It had some blatant homo-eroticism going on that kind of turned me off. They tried to be subtle at first, but by the end, were just hammering it in and it simply got old. The story was well done, but felt unfinished. Also, if you are looking for an anime with a lot of action, this is not it. This is mostly a story driven animation, with action few and far between, though there is quite a bit of blood and the action is quite realistic.

| Peace Maker Kurogane is an anime that has a different historical setting about the Shinsengumi. So basically most of the characters did exist and are not fictional. However this isn't exactly what really happened to the Shisengumi, it's just a different story using the real peoples name's.
At first glimpse of the first episode at the very beginning I thought, Hey this is somewhat like Rurouni Kenshin/Samurai X. The blood and the battle scenes. Mostly this plot is all focused about Ichimaru Tetsunosuke who wants to be a member of the Shinsengumi. His reason are to get stronger to avenge his parents death two years ago. Many pick on him for his height despite knowing his age. He looks like a 12 years old however he's actually 15. Very short indeed. Well of course he gets admitted by a personal request by Okita Souji leader of the first squadron. Many people mistake him for a girl, but nope he's a guy.
Well what makes Peace Maker Kurogane a good anime is the story. Basically Tetsunosuke wants revenge on the person who killed his parents. He vowed to become a demon and train hard to become a member of the Shinsengumi. However in a episode where he saves a girl named Saya, he feels uneasy. Because after letting Saya go, Okita Souji kills the person causing trouble (slicing his throat). He wants to fight yet he doesn't want to kill. He wants to kill but doesn't want kill. He wants to kill but he doesn't want to die. This makes the boy a noive fool, however this is what makes the story good. This is why the title is call Peace Maker Kurogane. It stays true to its ideals to the very end. In the series they mention about Peace Maker. A traveler with a pistol comes across and just happens to find Tetsunosuke. They chat until Tetsunosuke brother comes to find his carelses Tatsuosuke. That's when the traveler sees his brother and mentions Peace Maker. He calls Tatsunosuke 'Dragon Boy' and Tetsunosuke 'Iron Boy'. He mostly goes after the elder son cause he resembles the Peace Maker. Tatsunosuke does not care about Peace Maker or any sort that involves himself and his brother in a dangerous situation. He simply wants to forget about the incident. In my opinion he's just running away.
Okay I will say this though. After the first episode there is no major action whatsoever. The next big action happens in episode 20 till the end. So in the middle you see some little action little blood. And some funny parts.
Overall if you do not like blood. Do not watch this anime. Very graphic, well sort of at the end. I quite enjoyed and laughed nonstop at episode 15.

| Peacemaker Kurogane is definitely what I would call an 'A' caliber anime containing all the key elements of a successful show/series, spanning each of the major genres: action, drama, comedy and suspense/thriller.

| Man, this one surprised me a lot. The whole ¨kid samurai¨ idea was pretty uptight in my book but it was amazing how much fun I had watching this anime. Theres only 3 real problems with this anime though:
1) Sometimes the characters should show a more desperate expresion when someone dies. For example Tetsu cried like any lid would cry but the director should of showed a much more hurting expresion when crieng cause for god sakes he saws hes parents get killed right infront of him wich IMO was a big mistake.
2) In the story theres some holes that weren´t really filled with this anime. I´m not gonna mention them cause that would ruin your few of the anime with a spoiler.
3) Like I sed before theres many holes in the story and to that creates another problem wich is that the anime should of been longer to actually fill those holes. You´ll understand it when you watch it. I really hope they make a continuation or another season or something.
After that the anime is a pure masterpiece of various methodes of animation, 3D frame shift, incredible sound and music, very enjoyable characters and lots and lots of laughs and last but not least the actual action that takes place in the anime almost all of the moves are real wich means that what you see could of happen in real life. I know this cause I practice Aikido and I use the sword a lot. By the way many moves on rouni kenshin aren´t real so its another plus for this anime.
All in all this is one anime you can´t ignore. If you enjoyed kenshin you´ll adore this one and prey for another season like me ;)

| This is an anime that really needs to be watched without reading too many reviews first, mainly because you'll go into thinking it's going to suck if there's no action, but infact it's a very enjoyable tale about the members of the Shinsengumi and how Tetsunosuke Ichimura affects their lives.
If you enjoy a more character oriented anime and don't mind a samurai anime that lacks action, then I highly recommend you give this a go. It's something that needs a few episodes to really get going, so don't give up too soon ^__^

| As a fan of Rurouni Kenshin I would have to say that Peace Maker Kurogane is definitely a must see. With that said, I'm not saying that this anime is like Rurouni Kenshin...in fact it's way different.
The timeline and some of the characters might be the same, but the storyline and how the story progresses is alot different.
People expecting to see intense samurai action will be disappointed until the last couple of episodes, but the people wanting to see a nice story with great character development will be quite pleased. What this anime lacks in action it more than makes up for in the story.
Having watched Rurouni Kenshin watching Peace Maker Kurogane was quite a change of pace. In this anime you see the view point of the Shinsengumi instead of the Loyalist view in Rurouni Kenshin. I also liked how this anime showed the perspectives of both Tetsu/Shinsengumi and Susu/Loyalists.
I laughed, I cried...this anime was amazing. Peace Maker Kurogane is a great story about kinship, over-coming your fears, and a boy maturing into a man. If you can look past the lack of action then you will be satisfied with what this anime has to offer.

| Peacemaker Kurogane has what many fighting/martial arts anime titles are seriously lacking, and that is character development. That may not be a good thing especially to those who are into action as your not going to find alot of it here. However when it's there it's simply outstanding but then again you'd expect nothing less from Gonzo.
This title is not for everyone and action fans may want to stay away from this one as you'll probably be bored out of your minds. This title is 95% character and story development and 5% action. Seriously you'll go whole episodes without someone drawing their swords and when they do the fights don't last very long. The only episodes that have more fighting than anything else are 22 and 23, and they're very well done. When the action's there it's done very well, just don't expect a whole lot of it. Another thing that may turn off action fans from this title is that it's very light-hearted especially the first half of the series which is border-line comedy. Nevertheless, I found this title to be quite enjoyable and one of the better titles I've seen in a while because of it's character development.
The first half of the series gives you a real in-deapth feel to the characters and entire episodes are dedicated to character development namely that of the main character Tetsunoske trying to make his way as a full fledged member of the Shinsengumi. Once all of the main characters are established, the series goes almost completely dark around 2/3rds of the way through. This doesn't mean alot of action yet, but the story really fleshes out at this point. Closer to the end of the series at episodes 22 and 23 it's almost nothing but action, and it's done quite well.
I really got into this series, so much so in fact that once I found out that this title was sort of based off of Japanese history I made an effort to look up info on all of the main characters in Peacemaker that existed in real life and well... Let's just say that it isn't a happy ending for most of them. The series continues in the manga and 3 volumes in it gets to be quite dark and I'm hoping it gets animated as it's looking to be far better then its predecessor. Now if only ADV Manga would get off there asses and get the next volume out as it has been a year since they released the last one.

Aber was macht unser Studio-GONZO?

| Weird enough I cry some of the part of this anime. I thought it was stupid at first that they made the main char so weaksause but because of that he can be childish sometime and it work great for this. There's no intermediate relationship cuz the guy looks like 12 years old brat. Since he a kid, they give him a girlfriend that looks like a kids also. Nice match. Story is bullshit about shinsengumi. I hate shinsengumi story.. but this is not the case. It's about having family & loliness & revenge. Really touching anime with some sort of comedy. I wonder if it there's more...

| I've been reading reviews about this anime all over the place. Sure, I've seen it as well (maybe not all the episodes, I have two more disks to collect), but there is one thing that really infuriates me. No matter what site I read - it always seems to compare it to Kenshin. Heck, even the review in my own country was compared to Kenshin.
Well, guess what people? Peacemaker Kurogane is /not/ Rurouni Kenshin or Samurai X. Sure, it's in the same time period, uses some of the same characters (Saito, Okita etc), but it is not, in any sense, Rurouni Kenshin. Now, on with my review.
The animation is stunning, as it is with all GONZO films. (GONZO does it, don't they? Heh, anywho). It's full of vibrant colours, and the characters are animated perfectly. Even the samurai action scenes are flawless. In my opinion anyway.
The music is effective - and I adore the starting and ending songs. It effectively (SP?) puts you in the mood and used at the right moments.
The story is negotiable, because it spans two manga series (Shinsengumi Imon Peacemaker and Peacemaker Kurogane), which is probably why the series seems so open. However, the storyline is cleverly combined so that if you - yes you - pay close enough attention to the story line you don't get lost. Belive me, that's not hard. The one problem that I read about in reviews was the mixing of drama and comedy. Considering the manga Shinsengumi Imon revolves around comedy, and the Kurogane manga revolves around a more darker scene, I feel that it was done very effectively. The story focuses both on Character Development and Story Line, so there are a few filler episodes.
The characters were vibrant, different and well presented, and most of them existed. The personalities range from crude, rude, brattish (Tetsu) to childish, fun, yet lethal (Okita). There is the feeling of relating to the cast, although depending on your personality, you won't connect with or like everybody. (Eg. I don't understand or like Yamanami).
In conclusion, this anime is well worth the buy. It is my personal all time favourite, and if you like well animated Samurai anime, you'll want to watch this one time and time again.

| Needa re-edit my earlier Review. This anime has a mix of Kenshin and Naruto. However it fails to be either of these series. The anime progresses mainly by shallow comedy and series of conversations. For a samurai theme anime I was expecting more actions. Sadly, most of the "Major" actions occur at the beginning and near the end. At least when the "Action" actually occurred it was well made. There is also a romance between the main character and the girl who ironically works at a "Men Social Club"(if you know what I mean). Ironically enough in the end he done nothing to get her out. The characters carry traits everyone probably have seen in earlier anime series. At least the openning was kinda good I guess.
Over all, I would recommend this as a rent or borrow from a friend. Otherwise you can probably just ignore it and move on with your life. It brings nothing new and repeat upon the old.

| This anime gave me mixed feelings. at first it started out great and i was really psyched for some great action. but after the first few episodes it turned really dull and boreing. the main character tetsunosuke had so much potential to be an awesome hero but most of the time he just cryed and whined alot. his overprotective brother was pretty annoying aswell. the last 5 or so episodes were fairly shocking though and totaly changed my view of this anime. im not sure what the target audience is for this anime. it starts out bloody, then becomes a kiddy show thats almost unbearable, then ends with tons more blood and gore with some sick twisted stuff. ive noticed that no one seemed to comment on all the homosexuality going on in this anime. i mean, it wasnt going too overboard or anything but its just something i dont see in anime very often. okita souji, for example... i seriously just could not make myself belive that he was a guy even for a second. overall, this wasnt the worst anime ive ever seen, and the ending deffinately made up for all the boring stuff in the middle. its worth watching if you can make it to the end.

| The basis of this story is very Japanese-oritentated, but I still understood most of what was going on. It is a 'traditional' story of revenge, but with deeper meaning.
The characters were generally well made. The only real problem I had with a character was main character, Tetsunosuke. He was either crying, moaning or doing both at the same time. I doubt I wouldn't meet a 15 year old that acted like that. Fortunately the other characters compensated for that.
The sound and animation were particularly good in this series. The fight scenes were amazing. There was a fair bit of 3D animation in those scenes, but were used sparingly (which a good thing). The music is not too spectular, with a 3 or 4 songs used throughout the 24 episodes.
I really enjoyed this series. I literally watched the final 8 episodes in one sitting. I had to know what was going to happen. My only real problem (and seemingly regular theme in anime), is that the anime ends with a lot of loose ends. The majority of characters had a lot of development and storyline, yet we don't really know what happens to them. I was actually hoping that there was an OVA release of this series, so some of my questions could be answered.
This series reminds me a lot Naruto...just without the annoying Sakura. A definite watch for an anime fan. Unfortunately, if you are a hardcore anime fan, this series may be too predictable for your taste.

| Samurai flick made by GONZO. That tells You all. Bad pacing, interesting premise, great potential (wasted almost totally), interesting characters (mostly discarded), and title that sounds worth checking (and is explained in a rush, cause ending is 5 minutes away).
My ENJOYMENT was great at the beginning, I was simply hooked at once. But middle episodes have done what they could to kill this impression, as it was a mistake to be impressed with this anime. Only few last episodes are saving the show somehow, though for many it probably would be too late.

| Highs: Great Animation and BMG to keep the show alive
Lows: Ill structured Story, discarded characters
Overall:
In the end, the show turned out as a mediocre anime. Happered down by its inconsistancy to deliver fully its message. Although well done and superbly crafted on the outside, the interior of the show tends to be...hollow...lacking the support.
Animation:
As expected of GONZO, the animation is great, finely detailed characters, very original interpretations of real life characters. Although the animation does seem thinned out sometimes, sometimes highly detailed and exiting, yet at other times, "scratchy", undefined.
Sound:
The OP and ED are quite enjoyable, a nice blend of rock to add to the interest of the show. The BMG throughout the anime is quite well done, although not noticable always at some parts.
Story:
In 'consistancy' with the often found GONZO products, you will find that the animation is excellent, but tends to lack much in the story department. Although the story started out interestinly; intreging historical time period and an exiting setting(shinsengumi), the story falls short on content. From the time the protagnist falls into the shinsengumi, around 14 eps are wasted on seeing what kind of person he is. The problem here is that this tends to 'bore the pants' off most people, with pointless sidestories that dont lead much anywhere being a key part in this problem. The only things that hold the attention is the relationships that the protagonist developes with saya. This leads to a poorly structured script, with plenty of gaping holes in the character department. One of which is the theme of the whole story 'peace maker' is lost within the ill planned script, up until the last episode. Even so, the idea was never properly explained or pushed forward in the early parts of the show, only minor references in naming people 'peace makers'. The ending to the show turned out complete and incomplete, in terms of the main protaganist, the show is explain(although only in the last eps), but the other characters are strung high, whilst the ending including suzu feels as if it is trying to lead to something else...One can see that the director/author had the start and finish in mind, but missing the big chuck of content in the middle
Character:
Similar problems appear in the are of the anime. The show releases many intreging characters, such as the 'gun sling man'(his name eludes me atm), but also the relationships developed by the protaganist, the Yamanami(vice-chief) and the ninjas. Near the end, the side characters were all pushed away and left off on their own, incomplete. Yamanami's and his girlfriend never completed their promise of escape...Even the protaganists relationship was never purely finished, left on a hanging end, with the audience unsure of what to think of it all. A key problem also is the 'bad guys' in this show. We have a mini-bad guy, a mad nobel, but nothing was built on him till the final confrontation. Yet also on the final enemy, the same holds true, little is known of his own past...whilst suzu's role ended up undefined.
Value and Enjoyment
Personally i reckon it is only a mediocre anime. There is just way to many sidestories during the start and middle part of the anime. Only once past eps16 does the show truely pick up, with intricate details laced into the characters and the drama involved is wonderful. One can see where the director is trying to end the show. But the start and middle are troublesome to get through, almost couldnt be bothered to finish it.

| I could only stand watching through 16 episodes... I kept hoping that there would be more action, but I just couldn't wait when all the episodes in the middle were basically fillers, why the heck did they have that weird marathon, followed by even MORE fillers of everyday boring shinsengumi life... (i guess it is an accurate portrayal? hah!)
Perhaps my opinion will change if I saw some more action and proactiveness on the part of Tetsunoke. But this never happens. Sure the animation is quite nicely done, but that's about the only aspect that is good in this anime.
The characters certainly had a huge potential. There were those silent masters who had a deep past yet they don't express it. There was the awestrucking samurai who plays with a pig but when he is serious he is like a demon; However, any further development of these characters was marraed by the excessive attempts to bring humor by Tetsunosuke into this wannabe story that doesn't ever go anywhere.
This anime just has no appeal... it seemed to build up to something, but it just doesn't deliver. In my mind, Tetsunoke is just a naive child who barely changes and hasn't experienced anything and doesn't understand anything. I'm sure that by the end of the series something happened to made him overcome all this, but to not keep my hooked in the first 16 episodes is unforgivable and makes me despise this anime's pacing.

| Definitely misinterprets the pacing of the series in the first episode. I thought it would be a bloody action anime, however it turns out to be very slow paced with little to no action uptil the last few episodes when things finally come to a conclusion. The story is merely character development and heavily relies on each character's charm.
I don't know why, but Gonzo Digimation has a bad habit to put out series that could've been a lot more than they are. Immense potential could be seen in each episode because there were some unique characters that barely show in the series. Such as Suzu and the nameless peace maker whose a gun toting samurai (hilarious too, I might add). It could've been a lot more dramatic and would've faired well with more intense action however that never happens. Instead we are treated with a decent anime series which is mainly a comedy and is more light hearted than expected. Still not bad but could've been even better if taken on a different direction.
Watch if in the mood for a samurai comedy with occassional drama in the mix.
