Very, very good anime. Characters with deep backgrounds, long thought out plot line, very smooth chain of events, and LOTS OF EPISODES!!

The length of this anime just makes it that much better, the characters are very likeable and that makes it all the more fun to follow their story.

I originally watched FMA on Cartoon Network way back when and finally decided to finish the series by watching the whole thing subbed in the full glory of the original language.

FMA is an interesting adventure following the Elric Brothers' pursuit for the sorcerers stone, hoping to regain their original bodies lost when they attempted to transmute their mother back to life.

The series can be fairly dark at times and explores many themes such as what it means to be human in great detail.

The series starts a bit slow but it quickly picks up the pace resulting in many cliffhanger endings, which induces rapid chaining.

This is a very good classic and should be enjoyed by a wide variety of anime watchers.

OKAY FINE!!! Now I am just like everyone else. I watched it. And As much as I wouldlove to annoy my friends by saying I hated it I actually enjoyed it. The persistent brotherly underlining story, that popped up in every problem the Elric Brothers came a cross became kind of triesome, Oh look some brothers in trouble, oh look more brothers in trouble. yeah we get it. but what kind of storyline would we have our heros didn't have a problem they had to endure to help them reflect on themselves. The ending was up there on my 'what the hell' list. It was a great ending but still one of those WHY YOU DIDN'T COMPLETE THE STORY, you scream at your tv wondering why it ended in such a way. I wanted those brother to be together more than some animes with lovers in it. OMG. But it won me over. So yeah I totally give this one a good score.

This was a very good anime. I watched the show on tv and it was always enjoyable even if they showed reruns. But the ending wasn't the greatest since the whole anime was good but the ending just left off. Even the movie just left off. But I could see how they would leave it that way, since that is how the series started.

This was an awesome series. It was the very first series I watched (a couple of years ago) and the very thing that got me hooked on anime. The series had a great story, great animation, great voice acting, and my favorite part: the characters. All of them are great from the homonculi to the elric bros. to Maes Hughes to Winry to my personal favorite character Roy Mustang. The story had me intrigued from beginning to end with virtually know slow down in the plot IMO (even the few filler episodes were great). The show was very thought provoking for me. There are deep themes like War, Genocide, Religion, the Quest for Immortality, Brotherhood, Political/Military corruption. I have never felt so connected to the characters in any other medium as I did in FMA. It is great from beginning to end and even the movie was awesome. Both of the endings of the series and movie made me cry, and I do not do that often. Highly Recommended!
10/10 (Higher if I could)

FMA is a rather interesting and unique series. Definitely one of the most creative of this times. It's use of the basics of science and physics to manipulate things thru alchemy and in incredibly fresh and unique idea and not easy at all to pull thru. From the very beginning it deals into dark and controversial themes like religion and the value of life. Tho not the first series to bring up the topic of human beings creating and reviving other humans it thought of the basic idea and constructed a whole story around it. Even when we are a lot deeper into the story the subject of the place of human beings in the creation of life is brought up again and again until at the end of the series, the villains are living reminders of the limits that humans shouldn't cross.

The series offered a wide variety of characters which played vital roles in the story. Each and every one was different from the rest, their personalities well very well defined and some of them had very touching stories.

All is not well thought, Al thought not lacking in characters by any means the story concentrated in only only the main characters and left the others out of the spot light. Except for some of the main secondary characters, many had no impact on the story and where only filling up space. While not uncommon for animes to leave secondary characters out of the big picture, the manga gave each and every character a critical role and in some cases the story revolved around them so much it took the focus out of the main characters. The manga also, while not light by any means, was a lot less dark. Dark theme and moods were always present, and had the main protagonists deal with heart breaking and horrifically painful events but they always had the heart to keep their head up high and continue on their journey, the anime however almost turned them into emos, feeling sorry for themselves half the time and sitting in a dark corner, making others feel sorry for him the other half.

The story was also not as good as the manga, this is not to say the story was bad, it was perhaps one of the finest stories any anime has had to offer in recent years, but it is still lacking and quiet simple when compared to it's manga counter part.

The animation however was spectacular, one of the finest the industry has ever seen and constant thru all 52 eye candy episodes.

The music was only average, al thought the opening music was pretty good.

Overall: Great series, very good story and very unique and refreshing concept. Scientific alchemy has been one of the greatest ideas of the latest years. But it could have been better if it had continued and had followed the original manga's story line.

Final Grade: B

While Fullmetal Alchemist is has some entertainment value and original elements, it is nothing special. In their journey to get back the bodies they lost, the Elric brothers come across many interesting characters and get involved in world-shattering events that you can't help but want to see through to the end. However the animation was bland, and the main characters at times did things only so the plot could move along. If you didn't watch this series, you wouldn't miss much.

A fascinating dive into a stunning alternate world. I was enthralled by the sheer depth of its characterizations and the richness of the plot. It was better than anything that I have ever watched and I never was so engrossed in a series. I skipped classes and lost sleep because I had to watch the next episode. I watched episodes on my iPod as I commuted to work and watched episodes during work. Nearly got fired but was totally worth it.

"Rule of thumb--if you're not drawn into the series within 5 or 10 eps don't maintain hopes for more. Quit at that point or continue with the understanding that probably nothing will come of it. "

QFT... no seriously, why the hell did I not listen to this review instead of the other 200 idiot revierwers

OKAY I don't know hwy it's rated so high but let me just sya this anime is NOT good, I can call it bad. There's so many things I could bitch about... many.

Here are some of the problems
#1: dragged out as hell. No I'm not joking every single episode was like we're dragging out this out to episode 51, see how tediously we're executing this ep and trying to stretch this lame ass filler arc plot over multiple episodes? it was just insulting and boring and tedious.

#2 dragged out as hell dialogue. You know there's just too much talking. Like I'm not shallow, there was just too much "useless" talking. You know cliche/useless/boring/filler dialogue or some dialogue basically repeating crap they already said which would be fine if it wasn't repeated 5 million times. basicaly another tactic to stretch this crap out to 51 eps. It doesn't have enough material for even 24 eps, but if it was 24 eps maybe I could actually call it a good anime. unfortunately it's not. It's 51 frickin' eps, it's 21 hours. you see how dragged out this shit is. the ending has like no relations with the initial plot, and for poeple to say it's unexpected is such an euphenism. it's just another crappy ending where nothing gets accomplished though stufff does happen. but the way it happened it was so stupid you know with the characters. not to mention some gay excuse for sesaon 2 crap. which i'm not watching

I recommend a long series instead that actually get shit done, ie kaleido star, NANA

Fullmetal Alchemist is the tale of two brothers, Al and Ed Elric, who are seeking the Philosopher's stone to help them ressurect their dead mother. They go on a jounrey of discovery, and a lot of what they find is not necessarily pleasant.

When I first heard about this anime, I hesitated to watch it, as talking about it invoked a bunch of squeeing fangirls going "Oh, Ed Elric and Roy Mustang are so TEH SMECKSY!" However, many of the women in the cast - Riza, Winry, Schiezika, Rose, Maria and Lust are pretty hot as well.

I recently read that a survey done in Japan of what people thought was the best anime out there said that Fullmetal Alchemist was #1.

Although this is very well done, I don't recommend it for little children. It does tend to get violent and tense.

It took a while for this anime to grow on me, but as it progressed, I just got immersed in the plot. The characters are well thought out, and they add depth to the overall feeling of the show. Almost every episode is important in this show. For everybody, whether they would like this or not, this is a must see anime.

This one is on everyone's "must see" list, it seems. I gave it a shot to see what the fuzz was all about. It started out well, but would have benefited from from a more compressed format; perhaps 24 episodes or so.

Full Metal Alchemist is an anime. Though there is some confusing twists and turns throughout the storyline which make it sometimes hard to understand. The characters are well thought out and very well suit the story. The series also lasts quite a while so you get your money's worth. Full Metal Alchemist has to be one of my favorite animes.

Fullmetal Alchemist is perhaps the best anime TV series I've ever seen. It has excellent animation, awesome music, some of the best dubbing I've ever heard in an anime and to top it all of a near perfect storyline that raises many important questions. Overall FMA is a show that any anime fan should see. It's simply the cream of the crop when it comes to anime.

Anyone who gives this series a pitiful mark wasn't paying attention to the brilliance of this series. I'm a playwright, so I know good drama when I see it. It had an epic feel about it (as the series progresses). Although there were times when they threw in "recovery" episodes which proved slightly boring in comparison to some of the others.

I loved the tragic feel of the series and the revelation in the last few episodes (though I'm told they cut it short compared to the manga). And please don't go on about the "bad ending". It was perfectly viable, and quite decent in my opinion.

The only thing that annoyed me was that Alphonse was conveniently stupid in some situations. He may have been conveniently stupid in all situations, but I'm sure there's a debate raging elsewhere with regards to that subject.

The characters are well defined, and the music's really good. I liked the episode titles. They have impact. The series is entirely worth buying. Ignore all the others above this on the list (except for Samurai X/Rurouni Kenshin)
and give Fullmetal Alchemist a go. Chances are, you'll like it. Fan hype you say? I don't watch anime cause everyone says it's good. I choose it based firstly on the title and the description. Then I preview a few episodes (pisoga's a good site for that). If I like what I see I buy it from Malaysia, the US or the UK. After all, if I relied on "top rated" anime lists I'd be left with 90% trash and shows like Death Note.
The ending may seem disappointing, but get used to disappointment. Judge the series as a whole, not just on such a small percentage as the ending (however the ending may often break the series if it is truly terrible). The ending was quite tolerable for me. But I'm one of those people who likes shows where main characters get killed off from time to time.

Share the Love.

At first, when I heard the title I thought people were telling me about some Full Metal Panic spin off.
Boy was I wrong.
I can relate to the story of brotherly bond. The story consideration for equivalent trade was compelling, and the characters were loveable
