Fumoffu! The name is based on a plush bear of an amusement park, called Fumoffu. It's a disguise of Sousuke to complete a "mission".

Although the series are very comic, I didn't like the fact that the very nice characters of FMP! were spoiled to make teenagers laugh on them. Well, I must recognize that Sousuke is very weird, but he is not SO weird and common sense lacking like in FMPF! The series is a complete irozing of the characters of FMPF in general. Sousuke always is trying to get attention by doing stupid things like blowing lockers, putting traps all around places, carrying weapons to school...it can be funny for one or two episodes, but...a complete series about an unadapted Sousuke? no thanks! I don't buy it. I liked a lot the first Sousuke character(of FMP!), so I don't think I will put a good note on this series. Anyway, some episodes were really funny! Animation and sound, of course, cannot be compared with GONZO's. The story, of course, is too simple, and can't be compared with it's predecesor. Characters, comic, but pathetic!

I actually watched Fumoffu before watching FMP or TSR so I can attest that this hilarious "filler" series about a military soldier attempting to blend in with Japanese society and high school life can definitely stand on its own. Fully enjoyable without knowing anything about the characters from FMP. This series is purely a delight to watch and chuckle over.

Animation: animation was very detailed. Light/shadow interaction was clearly seen. This anime was very colorful: a huge variety of colors were incorporated in the character and surrounding design.
Sound: the anime I watched had dubs. I watched 2 different anime dubs, where the main difference was the dubbed voice of the captain. The sound effects and the usage of language were incorporated in the scenery extremally well. These features made this anime one of my favourite comedy animes.
Story: it consisted of short, extremely funny, discrete events. Overall, this anime did not have established a main theme or goal that the story would flow into (such as catch a bad guy or something like that). It was purely for the entertainment of the viewer, and I have to say that it performed a superb job. The only complaint is that sometimes the life threatening scenes such as kidnaping were taking a bit too lightly. Other than that, anime was perfect.
Characters: the characters were designed to look very cute. Moreover, because of the outstanding graphics, they looked very realistic. About the characters' personality design.....well, it was off from the original Full Metal Panic series by giving extremality to their actions. This anime is better to be watched independently from FMP series.
Value: I've watched this anime twice already with countless of times of playbacks on spot. I'd really like to have this anime in my collection.
Enjoyment: it goes without saying, this anime was a very entertaining anime to wathch.

Fumoffu is FMP except it focuses all its energies on the comedy aspect of the series and ignores the dramatic/action/mecha element. Specifically, it is all about Sosuke applying his military training to everyday benign situations and Chidori keeping him in check. I had really high expectations for this anime to be the funniest thing I had ever seen and I was somewhat dissapointed. I just thought it would be funnier. I guess Sosuke making mistakes and blowing things up can only be funny for so long. Now, don't get me wrong. Fumoffu *was* funny, just not as funny as I had hoped it would be. There were a few chuckles and a lot of smiles, but no side splitting falling out of my chair laughter.

Fumoffu is better than the original because it doesn't try to do every genera at once, but it is still not as funny and I think it could have been.

Fumoffu is trying to be what the FMP TV series should have been. Sadly, I think it fails on several points. The original quickly transformed from an interesting setting into meaningless mecha-action without even touching the most interesting part of the setting; the "boy-meets-girl" and the humour that the clash between two such different characters would instigate. This 13 episodes were a chance to set things right.

Something you wouldn't expect coming out of the first series of Full Metal Panic, Fumoffu is a real treat to those who stuck around after the 1st season. Taking the more comedic route towards the story and putting our famous Kaname/Sagara duo into various situations, this anime is great in its success in making its audience laugh. Where Full Metal Panic fell short, Fumoffu picks up the slack. Instead of trying to be comedic, dramatic, and serious all at once, Fumoffu instead focuses almost purely on the comedy, smoothly integrating the Sousuke-Chidori romance in as well. I first watched Fumoffu when it came out (before I watched the original) and I thought it was good before, but having a second time through with the original FMP perspective definitely helps with grasping some of the humor.

One of the nicest improvements in Fumoffu is the seamless animation. Detailed character designs, gorgeous backrounds, and incredibly fluid framerates are present from start to finish and there are very few scenes which are half-assed just to accommodate the budget. For a series like Fumoffu where visuals are essential to the humor, Kyoto Animation does a fabulous job. I've not much else to say, really, as praising animation isn't one of my strong points. Fumoffu is just one of those gems that sets the bar for where a series should be at; good animation does not mean a crappy anime.

Fumoffu is also very well off with its sound score as well. Despite the comedic nature of the series, it flaunts a beautiful, serene opening song titled "Sore Ga, Ai Deshou." Though not quite as good, the ending is still very nice as well, which usually bodes for a good OST sandwiched inbetween. Fortunately this holds true for Fumoffu, as its BGM tracks are astounding. Again, like the animation, music and sound are placed very well for each scene. Coupled with a Seiyuu that does a fantastic job at building strong characters, you really can't go wrong here.

Now to something of more substance: Why is Fumoffu so good? Though episodic, Fumoffu sticks to its purpose and does not go off on radical, retarded tangents like many anime-gone-bad. The main purpose of Fumoffu is to bring smiles and laughs to the viewer's face, which it does and does very well. Sousuke and Chidori are fantastic characters for an episodic plot based anime, and I must say I was very pleased with how much they were used to their potential.

Perhaps the most appealing parts of Fumoffu's story rating, however, were its many uses of satire and parody. Fumoffu pokes fun at just about everything, ranging from a plethora of typical anime cliches to political correctness to philosophy. The amazing thing is that Fumoffu is kept entirely objective in its humor, able to stay funny without crossing political, social, or religious lines (the episode with the rugby team comes to mind). In addition, because of a rich caste of characters, each episode holds its own unique value, and while themes are recycled jokes generally are not. Fumoffu was approached very carefully and respectfully, resulting in a top-notch comedy with many subtleties and layers to it.

As I'm sure I've hinted at already, I really liked Sousuke and Chidori as lead characters. While on the surface Chidori appears to be one of those mindless, cliche girls with a big mouth, she has an amazing amount of depth which is fleshed out as Fumoffu progresses. Despite being episodic, there is very noticable character development and you cannot help but become attached to her odd, yet sincere, feelings toward Sousuke; though Fumoffu does not aim for realism, the characters themselves are very real and deep. Though Sousuke seems predictable and cliche, in terms of character depth he bears a striking resemblance to Chidori and thus never really gets bland.

I'll try to touch up this review later, as I'm not sure how much sense it makes as I'm dead tired and about to fall out of my chair. I hope I left the impression, however, that Fumoffu is an astounding comedy/light romance anime. If you're looking for something good, definitely check out Fumoffu; it's well worth the time.

Highly recommended.

One of the best comedy series in existence. The second installation to the FULL METAL PANIC series, many consider FUMOFFU to be the 'parody' filler in between season one and two.

Don't let that fool you though. Fumoffu stands alone, and IMO exceeds its counterparts in greatness.

full metal panic was a very good mecha anime. it had some lovely characters, good fights and a tensive story.

in fumoffu the relationship between sousuke and chidori is in the center located. they go to schoold like normal people. but you cant describe sousuke as normal and he never fits in with his other schoolmates. when a girl puts a loveletter in his box sousuke detonates it because it could be an enemy attack. chidori is sure to scold him for doing it but he never learns. with his stupidity sousuke makes it a hilarius anime. he acts unresonable and rarely shows some brain.

the series is called fumoffu because of an animal costume named bonta-kun. it is a weapon which sousuke created for fight. but the normal speaking modus doesnt work. so the only word he can say is fumoffu. of course he needs chidori to translate for him.

the animation is surpsisingly well done for this kind of anime. i have never seen comedy this well animated. the sound is as good as in full metal panic and that means perfect. the characters are lovely with their love quarrel all the time. you never get bored though you know how they will act the next moment.
i ahve seen fmp fumoffu three times by now and i laugh every time i see it. there are no japanese puns they make you laugh with their actions.

everyone should watch this. the funniest, most hilarious anime with a fine humour. perhaps they will do a second season of fumoffu. i am looking forward to it. but pls dont take schoold rumble second season as example.

This anime had me laughing at the first scene and by the end of it, I was on the ground with a sore stomach and it desperate need of a change of underwear.

This anime was HILARIOUS. The open story line and somewhat under-developed and stereotypical characters left so much room for the absurdity and mind-blowing situations that makes the series endearing.

A giant teddy bear with a speech impediment? Geeks trying to pick up chicks? A bacteria that destroys clothing? This anime has it all though I did hope for a little more romance.

In all honesty, you don't even have to watch Full Metal Panic! to love this installment and is definately something to see with friends or on a rainy day.

This isn't one for the faint; you will laugh, you will cry and you will wet yourself!

"laughs" Now this is how full metal panic suppossed to be! LOL comedy, awesome animation, cool music (they even add metal guitar music when midori gets mad, simply awesome), theres no real story here, however it complements the original full metal panic story so its all right (pretty much a filler series but once you watch it you wont care!), the characters are as great as ever plus they add many more characters to the mix and finally you'll want to watch this over and over again, I garanty it!!!

This is more of us watching Sosuke and Kaname crushing on each other without making it too obious. Some of the ways they use Sosuke's complete ignorance to how he should be acting with normal people and how he should react to things can cause some real laughs. I didnt find it tiring, of course there isn't toooo much of a story here and im not a mega obsesive on Full metal Panic but I still enjoyed and find myself laughing and thoroughly enjoying it :)

Fumoffu does not have a specific plot or story. Every episode is very independent from each other which makes it an episodal type. It does not, however, mean that it is one lame anime. Those who think of it that way, you are VERY wrong!

Fumoffu is an anime that is just a fansub of its predecessors - FMP! and FMP!TSR. It does not focus on the serious aspects of life as shown by the latter. It is full of comedic scenes which will make your heart drop. What school can you see a student setting bombs on lockers and comfort rooms, shoot guns at martial artists (in a comedic way), and use an impressive puppet to defeat gangsters.

Both the songs of the series are very cheeky, especially the former Sore Ga Ai Deshou.

Very much recommended for those who need a good laugh once in a while. Not recommended for those who have a heart attack because you might die laughing!

Personally, while this anime is extremely highly rated by many people on this website, I don't see how it is good enough to be considered one of the top 15 anime of all time. The Second Raid is much better all-around than Fumoffu.

The animation in Fumoffu is done very well; however, the simple 2D backgrounds and lack of special effects or fight scenes bring the score down a bit: this anime doesn't really showcase the animation because of its genre. The character models, however, are quite good.

The soundtrack, in my opinion, is sub-par. The opening and ending songs are not very good, and are actually pretty boring. However, the voice actors did a tremendous job; I am positive it was extremely difficult to pull off Sosuke and Chidori's actions realistically.

The story is where this anime falls apart. There really is no story. All of these episodes would fit well as filler episodes in Full Metal Panic or FMP: The Second Raid. However, there is no overriding plot or conclusion through the anime, merely a bunch of amusing and seperate episodes.

However, a few of the stories within the episodes were quite good: I enjoyed the episode where Sosuke trains the Rugby team, and where Chidori is kidnapped and Sosuke must save her. Disregarding those few gems, most of the storyline in the anime was pretty simplistic, predictable, and weak.

The main characters were hilarious. Sosuke and Chidori, as usual, are both an amazing tandem and their antics amuse me to no end. However, the side characters leave much to be desired. Partly due to the fact that this is merely a bunch of comedic filler episodes, none of the side characters are explored or grow or develop in any way. Some of the side characters, like the chief of the karate club, actually seem pretty useless, and contribute nothing significant to the story or even the comedy; if you cut him out I wouldn't notice a difference in the episodes at all where he appears.

I did, however, enjyoy the episodes with Tessa, who freshened the series, which at that point had started to get a little repetitive.

For those who enjoy comedy with no plot, this anime is very good. The same goes for those who want to see more of the types of episodes shown in the first couple episodes of "Full Metal Panic". However, for those that either dislike those episode in FMP, dislike FMP itself, or dislike comedy without any plot, stay away from FMP: Fumoffu.

Also: if you are uninterested in comedy, and want to skip to the action/serious drama to be had in Full Metal Panic, watch Full Metal Panic: The Second Raid, which is the true sequel to the original FMP, and advances the storyline from where FMP left off.

The gods of KyoAni have done it again (or should I say, have always done it). Extrapolating on the popularity of the Full Metal Panic! franchise, KyoAni decided to pull the short stories from the shelves and put together an extremely successful season of Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu!!

Although there are only 17 episodes of comedy story after another, they ARE chronological, and are all VERY FUNNY! You can't exactly say filler either, as they are all canon from the novel. Some episodes are very funny, some episodes are full of fanservice (I very much choked at those ones), and some are slight developments between Chidori and Sousuke. Beautifully fluid animation just propels this to the top, especially in the fanservice area. The introduction of Bonta-kun and several running gags holds this show together timeline-wise. Ridiculous stories + military fanboy extreme = win.

Though this anime is not without it's faults. Because it's not a standalone, you have to rely on the first season of Full Metal Panic! to get to know the characters and why they do these things. And most regrettably, the first season was by GONZO, not KyoAni (see my review on Full Metal Panic!). Fumoffu! gets top-marks in execution, but can't get rid the pains of the first season. Some stories were a little lame (but still funny!), too. And there was no conclusion (but who really cares about that in an all-fillerish-canon comedy?).

In all, FMP? Fumoffu! is one great laugh to the next, and it hypes up the next in the series: Full Metal Panic: The Second Raid!!

This had all of the elements of Full Metal Panic TV that I loved; the wacky comedy and OTT reactions of Sousuke Sagara and the good thing about this is that's all it is ^__^
I wasn't a fan of the more serious elements of FMP, so being treated to this much humour and stupidity all in one go, was the highlight of my week!
I would say you need to watch FMP first, as you need some knowledge of what Sousuke and Chidori are all about, plus when the cast of FMP come for a visit, you might be left wondering what it was all about.
If you want something that will make you laugh until your sides split, then look no further than Fumoffu!

Aye.

I'll admit right now that I'm a sucker for comedy animes, especially ones that have to do with school life. Imagine yourself as a student in the world of Fumoffu. You wake up, go to school, sit through a boring lecture, each lunch, and then you unexpectedly step on a landmine, which sends you to the hospital for ... and hour.

You might get kidnapped by a group of mysterious gangsters, but all they want to do is make you go to a movie theater because there's a discount for 20 or more people going at a time.

FMP:F is a hilarious interlude of episodes that depicts Sagara Sosuke and his idea that the school is a warzone. With a beautiful, crisp animation and excellent voice acting, FMP:F has become one of my new favorite animes.

Sosuke, the male protagonist of the anime, is one that definitely stands out. He is the main man that powers the comedy with odd situations and his neverending paranoia. You can rely on him to kill a small army all by himself, but you can't rely on him to buy a french roll. Kaname is Sousuke's outgoing female counterpart, and tries endlessly, and always fails to, keep Sosuke out of trouble.

The only element lacking however, is a story. You can watch all the episodes out of order and you would, for the most part, not be confused, because each episode is it's own little microcosm.

If you can take a little time out of swordfighting and gun shooting, then this anime will definitely be a treat.

Nowhere else will you be able to find a giant stuffed animal beat up several men.

Full Metal Panic Fumoffu is a great anime for both guys and girls. This is a comedy anime, so it is definitely fun to watch. This is the best anime series without a real plot.
What makes this series a wonderful success is the main characters Kaname Chidori and Sousuke Sagara. The unexpected always happens, and this is why Full Metal Panic Fumoffu is one of the best animes !!

This is another one of those animes that reminds you why you watch anime to begin with. Although I personally found The Second Raid to be better this is by no means a bad anime. Full Metal Panic! Fumoffu? focuses on the humor of school life that Sosuke seems to create around him. As this is the case there isn’t as large a focus on the story as in the other two series. In fact you don’t even need to watch Fumoffu in order to understand the other series (even though you should). The only other thing worth mentioning is the way the episodes are set up. There are full length episode and ones that are two half episodes (which I personally hate).
