| Ayashi no Ceres (translated as Ceres: Celestial Legend) tells the story of Aya and Aki Mikage, twin brother and sister who destiny gets a rude awakening on their 16th birthday when they find out they have the spirits of Ceres, a celestial maiden, and the man who stole her hagoromo and bound her to the earth. Ceres is pissed as hell and ready to carve out some serious vengeance, but her family's not about to let that happen. Not to mention Aya may not be the only one carrying the power of a 'tennyou' within her...
Overall, Ceres is a good, but not great fantasy series suffering from many of the pitfalls that hinder some of Yuu Watase's other works. If you stick along for the whole ride, you'll get some enjoyment out of it, but just watch out for bumps along the way.

| Ayashi no Ceres is just one long sappy love story under the guise of some sort of fable/legend story. Although there are a lot of pretty boys that would delight any girl who is a fan of such things, there are quite a lot of more bleeker and bloodier scenes that a guy might be more accustomed to. But really, this is just a love story. Aya may go on a lot of journeys in search of her Hagoromo/Mana, but they are just excuses to tear apart and rebuild her relationship with Tooya.
With this in mind, I still find the story to be quite nice. Even though everything is made to develop romantic drama, I think they did a good job with elucidation and incorporation all the magical/fantasy elements into the story. The fantasy elements and the storyline combination is seamless. In other words, they made good use of the fantasy element to tell the story. I also thought that that one volume which told the background history of all the families was quite fun to read. Although 12/14 volumes are basically devoted to romance development (and can get really really tiring at times), there is still some fun to be had outside.
One of the good and bad things about Ayashi no Ceres is the character cast. There are a lot of really cool characters in this manga that I wished would have more manga screen time. Shuro and Chidori are really cool characters that never get proper development. Their potential development time is sacrificed all for boring Aya. Aya never changes... at least not in a sense that I care about. She is just the whole girl trying to deal with her bleak situation. Yuuhi plays a backseat role in nearly everything, right from the start. As for Tooya.. well he's a pretty cool silent hero type, but what can you expect from someone who doesn't really express his emotions that well. I'm sure some girls might imagine him to be a dreamy potential boyfriend, but from a guy's perspective he's just a cool silent hero.
Finally, to conclude my thoughts and sum everything up - Ayashi no Ceres is a pure romance manga that incorporates fantasy elements of the Celestial Maiden legend pretty well. There are very few action scenes... mostly every emotional thought is told from Aya's perspective, and it gets really repetitive at times. This is just a so-so manga.

| Overall it had everything needed to become a masterpiece. Solid misterious characters, a good idea for the main plot, great design...
But then it went downhill. Aya became a crybaby, the established relationship is horribly forced and dragged around, and the 2 characters who actually should end up together don't. Appart from that it stops beeing intresting around volume 7.
I don't actually recomend this to anyone unless you really like the author.

| At first I really liked Aya but as the story progressed, i started to hate her. I think shes a cry baby and needs to get a life. She does the stupidest stuff ever. She just ticks me off....but besides that the story is awesome! it is really good till the 7th volume. From then on it kinda goes down hill but over all i liked it.

| this was my first and most favourite manga. it has romance, comedy, and action all what a good manga needs ^_^. i love the story line too it keeps you in the story.

| I've seen the anime and I loved it. The manga is more detailed than the anime (as usual), but it's just as good. Personally, I felt that it was a very good series.

| First of, the art of this manga is just outstanding!!!! I LOOOOVE Yuu Watase's art it's sooooo beautifuil! Second, the story is pretty nice... it did get on my nerves at times but it was interesting and kept me going (hated the ending though)... The anime, though touches on similar issues, it's far different.... there is sooo much more character development and things going on in the manga than anime... if you liked Fushigi Yuugi then you should definatly read this one... a very dark manga indeed!

| This had been one of my fav manga!! (not any more now, but it had been for a while!) The story is unique. Many parts were very touching. Many parts of the manga explores humanity and provide some thoughtful ideas.
P.S. I am shock at someone who gave a 2.6!

| Loved the overal storyline about the perfect human race. But I hated how it got mixed with a bunch of love crap. ("I love you but I can't love you because I'll hurt you, etc.") And the people who SHOULD be together never establish their relationship.
THe middle of the manga was slow; started picking up near the end. Aogiri household humor didn't help either.
Oh yeah- As consistent with Shoujo-manga, Aya/Ceres are half naked every other page.

| Horrible! What a slut Aya was, and Tooya had all the personality of an ironing board. The concept was intriguing at first, to be sure, but this was something they could have finished in 7 volumes or less, they didn't have to go traipsing all over Japan in one contrived sequence after another. By vol 10 I was skipping large quantities of each volume, and I only made it to the VERY crappy ending by dint of sheer determination. I don't recommend this, I really don't, and I really really want my time back!

The art is just beautiful. Story is brilliant, very enjoyable.

| AMAZING MANGA!!
this was way better than the anime. I heard the characters in the anime actually looked demented at some point but i'm glad this didnt' happen in the manga. Kept me on the tip of my toes and had a very touching ending. realli good shoujo manga for all those girls out there that like romance and hot guys =D. ahhh i think everyone should give this manga a try. itz truly amazing

| it has a great story plot. and lots of suspense. love the design and story. but the characters... they just seem like all the other story's love triangle. but that doesn't stop it from being such a great manga.=P

| I like the design of character's, watase yuu sensei is awesome about paint the character's, it's cool, magnificent, cute, beautiful, etc. The art, animation everything i like. But the story is too complicated so we have really too see it with full concentation, if not well we never no the meaning of the story.

| Ayashi No Ceres caught my eyes coz of the beautiful art. The character designs are awesome and the story gets sad, happy and sweet sometimes. Although it does take me a while to get into the story of Ceres, the whole thing is worth the watch.
