I downloaded this anime because i was bored and looked for something nice to passed the time - so i downloaded it.
i wasn't pleased at all. it was kinda bad.
ok - you get a very weird and annoying CG animation of a damn train.
You get a bunch of girls trying to prevert bandits from taking some gold.
ok - it's not unique, but it can be nice.
the story is that there is no story. it's not surprising at all. It's too short to have any deep meaning to it.

| A very typical western anime that is 45 min long. It features some good gun fighting actions, but the whole anime has a very cheesy feel to it.
The animation is average, the CG is okay, but it feels weird that only the train is CG while the rest is not. And the smoke produce by the train is extremely ugly. Another plus is that the character design and art style really fits into the western theme quite well, unlike some other western anime that has that fake look in it.
The sound, especially the BGM is excellent. The seiyuu is alright, and because of the style of this anime, the English voice-acting is actually up to par with the Japanese voice this time!
The plot and characters are wafer thin in this anime. This basically copies one of the old western stories from the 50s or 60s. The bad guys wanted to steal the gold in the train, the passengers inside the train (with an acting sheriff) must work together to repel the enemies. Then at the end comes one big lame and predictable plot twist to "spice" things up, which really doesn't. I guess the good thing in this story is that it doesn't feel like an anime but more of a western anime/cartoon hybrid.
You can watch this anime if you got 45 min to spare, but otherwise, skipping this one is not a bad choice either.

| It's a pretty decent way to pass the time.Typical western story with some twists and a main idea that men can't be trusted :P
Animationwise, really didn't like the CG graphic on the train itself,looked very cheesy.
No main character, but more development on spacific 2 than on anyone else.
VA was decent,and BGM was very good. It was pretty fun to watch.Overall,a decent anime.

| Nothing much here in 45 min oav. Just a typical western cowboy anime. The animation done well. They used a lot of CG animate but do a good job of blending it with a soft-cg. Soundtrack were totally sound at the same as 1950' cowboy movie in USA channel ;P Now... they can either do a TV for this then value of this oav will go up 1 point. Or if they left it hanging like this.. that's mean this one suck ass(dvd out) from many point of the views.
Watch it if you like cowboy/cowgirl/drawgun/bandit movie otherwise watch it just to burn your time.

| I was skeptical of this after seeing some low reveiws needless to say I really liked this one.. sure the story is simple but for 45 minutes I found it excellent, if you can put many character developments or pointless story changes into 45 minutes and get away with it I'd buy the first round. Animation is excellent, its fluid and stable to the end. The music score is perfect and lets you get into the wildwest spirit as well as compliments the scenes to a T.
The story is basically action from beginning to end with attractive characters having to pick up arms against dirty ex-soldiers turned train robbers, and its a fun trip from beiginning to end.

| Yay, a western type of anime series at least it's something new to my eyes. I just watched it as a filler and it didn't fail of course. Girls on a train equiped with massive weapons and defeating ugly guys - whoopdee do.
At least it's a change and then there was that strange little twist that a simple minded person like me didn't expect. Well sort of - but I expected the wrong thing.

| Like a toe-in-water exercise, to see if it is worth going on with an actual series based on a group of girls in the Wild West, Early Reins has every western cliche down pat.
But, by gawd, we have an anime western.
In all open honesty, I cannot think of another anime western that is, essentially, a "pure" western. We have animes that are pretending to be westerns, in a very postmodern sense, but not one that is an out and out member of the genre.
Unfortunately, Early Reins is the one. Unfortunate because it is merely good rather than great, and falls just as easily into a "girls with guns" subgenre. But there is something rather entertaining about watching cute girls blasting huge, bloody chunks out of a pack of ugly and, for the most part, faceless villains. ;)
Oh, and the "twists" at the end.... I could see them coming a mile off. :)

| This is an excellent short OVA. One of the few I’ve seen of this quality. Of course, the rating is keeping in mind that this is only 40 minutes or so long. But the story is pretty good considering there is no time to build it up. The animation and sound are great. The characters are a little lacking, mainly due to the lack of time to develop them. Still one of the better short OVAs out there. Worth a look at.

i liked the cgi animation the characterless scenes with just landscapes and the train where done with computeranimation. it blended smoothly in the anime.
i thought it was original to use anime for the western genre i can only think of trigun. but the story is again something which is overused in a normal western.

| A fairly average anime worth the download if you like cowboy stuff. The cowboy musical themes were pretty cool, there's some fanservice, there's action. Overall, this OVA had fairly high production values and the animation quality was pretty good.
The story was pretty interesting, but the fact that this was only a 1 episode OVA makes it have less of an impact. Mostly senseless fun. Just totally average. Almost painfully average, as several have already said.

| Considering that this is one of those animes full of female subjects many ppl would run to see it. Well I was reticent about this one but when I started watching it I thought to myself: This is not so bad afterall! I expected nonsense boob bouncing and all those fanservice stuff but no... it's a simple anime with some funny parts and cowboy action. Not impressive when it comes to character animation and music but still very enjoyable to watch. Cowboy fans should give it a try.

| this anime is painfully average...
there isn't really much that i can recommend here. the animation is OK, but the CGI is horrible. the train CGI looks particularly bad...
the music is OK i guess. there is lots of cheesy western BGM. no vocals.
the story is basic good vs. evil. a train is hijacked by some "bad guys" and it's up to these 6 stereotypical girls to stop them. the characters are nothing new and you don't even find out their names until half way through this 40 minute OVA. very predictable.
i would say to download this, watch it, then delete it. i can't recommend buying this when it comes out on dvd.

| Well what should i say... i enjoyed watching it, but always got that feeling that something is missing.
Perhaps more deepth to the chars would have been better for this show, even if they are well designed. For Western Fans i would say add 1 or 2 to the rating.

| Early Reins ist ein Anime der komplett im Westernstyle gehalten ist und somit nach Trigun der erste Anime den ich in dieser Form gesehen habe. Nun gut Early Reins hat zwar nicht im entferntesten die Klasse des Sci-Fi Western-Klassikers ist aber dennoch unterhaltend. Der Plot basiert auf typischen Westernklischees (ein Zug wird überfallen) und auch das allseitsbeliebte "Böse Jungs können nicht die guten Jungs treffen aber umgekehrt" kommt vollstens zur Geltung. Natürlich kann man in knapp 30 Minuten keine sonderliche tiefe der Characktere erwarten aber das Design selbiger ist sehr ok und hat mir gut gefallen. Untermalt wird das geschehen von typischer Westernmusik die auch nicht schlecht ist. Early Reins ist ein unterhaltsamer Western dem möglicherweise eine TV-Serie folgen könnte (IMO zeichnet sich das irgendwie ab). Wer auf Western abfährt sollte auf jeden Fall einen Blick riskieren doch auch Actionfans kommen auf ihre Kosten.

play some western music while watching noir. that would be twice as nice.
