Ultra Maniac is a very nice magical "witch" girl anime. It's very pretty, sweet, romantic, with the good old tradition of friendship over comes all.

Shoujo in every way, Ultra Maniac delivers lots of comedies and some romance. The first time I saw this, I was thinking a teenage Sakura Kinimoto show. But after the show, I only saw their shared trait by the fact that they're magical girls. Oh well...

Animation was good. Lots of effects flying around the show, as expected from magic-type anime. The visuals were pleasing. All very bright colors that will make a little girl stare at the pretty backgrounds. It sets its mood perfectly as light-hearted and a bit laid-back atmosphere since it's mostly suburban in the show.

Sound is your regular pop-style music. OP is catchy, but might make you forget after you finished it. The ED is more mellow and somewhat a little annoying to hear. Didn't like the ED. The seiyuu are tops for my vote. They express their voices at synch with their characters' personalities. It's overall superior to the lame dubs in here.

Kind of lacking in the story department. Just a comedy so do not expect some ground-breaking, philosophical plot. This show is made to make the audience smile and laugh. Although a subplot is introduced halfway in the story which they could've left out. It really ruined the comedic feel in it. Anyway, the starting episodes are very fun.

Ack, the characters are all very pretty. >_< The only ugly character that I can mention here is that nerdy kid. Now for character development, it hardly has any. Since it's a comedy, fillers are to be abound here and there will hardly be a time for them to develop. Not much else to say in this category...

Might be rewatchable. I'd go for the absolute funny ones though. The last episode is very mediocre in my opinion. Although the comedy can grow stale over time. I don't even want to talk about the romance here. Pre-teen, puppy love isn't my cup of tea.

Another good anime. Frankly, shoujo anime tend to go to the good side of my judgement. Might want to watch more shonen to see how they fair, lol. Anyways, enjoy.

This is one of the first animes that Animax asia aired back in 2004. After watching the first episode, it immidiately grew on me.

The animation is great, everything like the trees, houses, buldings, ets. is wonderfully drawn and there's the feeling of being in a fantasy world. I like the character design too, cartoonish but cute, but the thing is they are too thin and I don't like the uniform style. The music is nice and so are the opening and ending songs and the dubbing is great as usual.

The story is about Nina Sakura, she's from the magic kingdom but came to the world of human to gather the 5 holy stones. At first I thought that they were gathering those in order to be the gratest magician, but I was wrong. It was later explained the true purpose of collecting them. But Nina has a rival named Maaya Orihara who's also from the magic kingdom, and she collects the magic stones too. In the beginning, I don't understand why she's so determined that she'll do anything just to possess them, but in the end I was able to understand her feelings. The plot doesn't only focus on that alone as it also involves Nina's high school life together with her friends. The ending is one of the best I've ever seen. It's so rare that I see a series that really has an ending unlike Ranma1/2 and Inuyasha which didn't end nicely and left the viewers hangin'. It's nice to know that Nina has chosen what can make her happy the most and I can really say that I'm satisfied by the way that it concluded though I wish the series could've been longer.

The title sounds like an hentai anime, right? but it's not. Ultra Maniac is a light hearted series which can be both enjoyed by kids as well as adults. This series has a great combination of comedy, magic and romance which is quite similar to Card Captor Sakura. The comedy part usually comes from the attempt of Nina to use magic which makes things worse, she's no good in using magic at first but after practicing/studying more she became a better magician. There are two couples here, Nina Sakura/Hiroki Tsujiai and Ayu Tateishi and Tetsushi Kaji. I don't have a favorite couple here because in the two girls, I like Ayu more but in the boys I like Tsujiai better though I don't see them as a couple as they don't look good together.

The first half of the series usually contains episodes that are finished in just one shot but the second half are continous. Others say that the episodes 1-12 are fillers, but for me, I don't think so because I've seen many important things that are directly related to the main plot and another is that it helps character development.

My favorite episodes here are: 1. when Ayu and Nina has transformed into a boy. 2. When Tsujiai's cat was turned into a human and 3. when there was a misunderstanding between the 4 main characters.

I became attached to the cast though they are quite one dimensional menaing their personalities doesn't have much depth. I'll give a brief description. Nina is kind of childish but strong willed, she always try her best to help her bestfriend, and has a generous and kind heart. Ayu is matured and sophisticated looking. Kaji is a hearthrob but he has his darkside but Ayu doesn't mind. Tsujiai is a silent type and doesn't show his feelings much. Maaya is serious and not friendly, you can always just see her underground making potions but just like Nina, she's clumsy in using magic too.

Highly recommended to all. Also woth buying the dvds. I enjoyed watching almost every episode, and I don't remember how many times I've watched it. Give this a try, everyone.

I'm from Singapore and I just recently had access to watch this Anime. What can I say, it's one of the best Animes I'm addicted to! In Singapore, Ultra Maniac is only available on one channel, ANIMAX and every day, I programme an alarm on my television set to watch Ultra Maniac!

The show's characters are hilarious and ultra cute. The girls are depicted as perfect Japanese girls and are not overtly voluptous like in most other animes.

The cinematography is perfect, with zoom in and blurring effects. There are also appropriate silences and stillness in the movie to add to the atmosphere.

Some of the actions are completely lame but it is depicted in such a way that it is totally comical!

The love story's exciting and captivating, with the standard 'soap opera' setting...

This is definitely a MUST watch anime for all anime lovers. It is a hybrid of gorgeous graphics with a captivating plot!

the name 'ultra maniac' made me think twice about watching this at first, good thing I did!

ANIMATION: no doubt about it, impressive coloring and motion is pretty well executed.
SOUND: alright it's rather too girly and has a cotton-candy quality to it (hope you get what I mean!) but you have to admit it fits the story just fine. ED song isn't too bad either when you find out what it's about.
STORY: though witch-stories have been around for aeons, the 'holy stone' bit and the computer idea add a nice twist.
CHARACTER: everyone acts the same way they look. it's a bit annoying though that they don't seem that unique and you'll see the same hairstyles in other animes.
VALUE: 9 because... well, sometimes you really, really need a break from serious stuff.
ENJOYMENT: perfect!

This show is one of the animes at the top of my list. The characters are all so cute and hilarious. I got a good laugh out of it.

The animation is really cute. The drawings are clean and nice. The girls weren't over detailed or flashy.

At first, the anime moves a bit slow, but after each episode, the information is given to you bit by bit. It was really entertaining and funny and kept me interested throughout the whole show. The ending did not disappoint either.

I really enjoyed watching Ultra Maniac and would want to watch it over and over again!

The anime is very nice and cute. The humour starts off pretty exaggerated and silly but improves severely along the episodes.
The animation isn't very impressive considering that it was made 2003, but it's adorable and fits very well with the way the anime goes on.
The sound isn't that impressive, neither of the title songs are that good, and the sound during the shows sometimes feels a little misplaced.
The characters are great, they give a shallow impression at first but along with the serie you get to know them and you get a completely different impression of them.

I guess that the only thing that annoyed me was that there was this scene that repeats every episode in Sailor moon way. Always fastforwarded xD

Its a cute story about a witch from the magic kingdom(Nina) whose best friend is a normal girl. Its about her adventures in the human world and her quest to get 5 holy stones in order to marry a Prince. But there are a couple of twists here and there and it doesn't end quite like you think it would :)

a nice anime ,especially for the youth. It sort of relates to our generation these days. This anime includes some prince and princesses stories of some sorts but its really a different one.

A little childish but hilarious.
The character designs are very beautiful, so are the sceneries, clothing, and so on. The last episodes kinda have a few draw backs in the animation though, but not enough to bother me.
The background music is so cute.
The story is reminds me of the animes that I watched as a kid, ahh I'm still a kid at heart I suppose.
The characters are all so kool, I didn't like the fact that Yuta doesn't show up much though since he does in the manga, but both anime and manga have very kool characters.
Very funny anime that is pretty too.
I like it a lot though I usually pick the more serious anime genres.

Well, I dont usually watch these types of animes. They usually just don't do much for me. They are cliche and mostly bland. At first, I merely thought of just a Sailor Moon anime. This is way better, but, seriously tho, what isnt?

Animation
----------
Ok this was made, when, 2003? If so, why does the anime look like something I have seen in an anime from 1990? It is just not up to the par that animation was at at 2003.

Sound
------
I hate the OP and ED. The music in the anime does not suck that bad. But since the OP and ED take about 2 mins together, I feel they knock the score down enough.

Story
--------
Really cliche'd. That sums it up.

Character
-----------
Surpisingly, this is what makes this anime rise above mediocracy. The characters are all very interesting to see and watch communicate with each other. I laughed at the jokes and found the bulk of the conversations just hilarious, especially in the scariest sections(the crazy goth girl for instance). If anything, this is the reason it shines. Also, the romance was played out well by the characters and, for once, the anime is able to continue after the climax of it.

Overall, I quite enjoyed the anime despite the stuff that pulled it down.

My recommendation: Watch this anime! It aint bad, despite my review. Just skip the OP and ED, ignore the inital story, and try to be optimistic about the animation.

Ultra maniac is below average anime. The animation is ok but this anime doesnt make me laugh and the romance...well the romance wasnt something to watch for. I have watched alot better romance anime than this one.
When the witch transform looks too much power rangers or something. All those magic and mages, all that things wasnt that enjoyable. The storyline really sux it didnt have something special but for some reasen I watched all the episodes not bored but not excited either. The ending wasnt that bad but was kinda expected.

A really nice romantic comedy anime.........
And in my opinion much better than Love Hina.......It was a helluva lot funnier than love Hina.
Even though this anime is light-hearted, I think the romance part was done pretty well especially between Kaji and Ayu. Even Nina and Tsujiai's romance was nice.....atleast better than the drag going on at Love Hina....

Also each chracters had pretty well-defined personality.......

be sure to watch it........

it's one of those no complications type of anime. the plot is simple enough, nina has to go to shuei highschool and collect five stones to become a princess. maya is the rival, ayu is the bestfriend, kaji and tsujiai are the love interests. the fact that it took place in highschool is what made it most enjoyable for me, because besides the magic bits, ayu and nina's escapades are pretty normal for teens.kaji and ayu's story made me really giddy, which is very rare. it's kind of cute how they put masks on just to impress each other. tsujiai and nina's however, seems to lack closure. i think she would've been better off with yuta. i was right in predicting that maya is more suitable for the crown. but all in all, it had been a good anime experience.

I mostly like it because of it's story line. And that's problaly because I like romance and comedy. Ayu should really fess up about Tetsushit than everything would be perfect. It's kind of lame the way Nina does her magical transforming thing but other wise its ok.

Since I'm a hopeless romantic, this kind of anime is what I enjoy watching the most. The story progression is smooth flowing especially the developement of the ayu-kaji, nina-hiroki loveteams. The animation is inconsistent though as it got kind of sloppy in the middle of the series. I like the sounds especially the ending song, which started soft and soft but eventually got me to jiggy with it towards the end. My favorite character (would you believe?!) is Orihara Maya because her aloofness and "always no reaction" personality are what makes her funny and kawaii.
