| OK for some reason all my reviews are getting deleted, like my love hina, and Futokai, (both are great by the way) but I am going to try again with this one and see if it gets deleted also.
OK this was a cool flick for me because it was a nice change of pace (I am not too into SF) and was surprisingly really good.
The animation was smooth, and they do use some 3d stuff that is OK nothing to amazing but solid for flight scenes.
The best thing that stuck out the most to me was the music. Thie music was amazing! I can't deny its greatness. I totally went and found the title music on myspace and played it on my page for a bit. I honestly feel that people should go check this out just to hear the music, but don't worry the rest of the show is good to.
The worst part of this anime was I was not too found of our heroine at times. She cried a whole lot (like many other animes I have seen) and I found myself connecting more with other characters more than I did her. I really do wish that it did more with them, but what can you do? Can't please everyone. There was decent character development but nothing too amazing here. I am a sucker for character development so that is why it only gets decent ratings.
The story was well done even though it was a bit repetitive, having to save the planet twice in one series is a lot of work! The main girl and her love interest are both top of their class in ability controling their ships and they do some pretty amazing things in them. Even though it was set on a space station I also still felt that the students were in school and I really liked that. Having rival space stations was a neat add in as well.
Overall it was a really good anime and I encourage people to check this one out. It was a great change of pace and gives you just enough always wanting to go straight to the next episode. The ending was decent also which is a rare gem these days.

| Even though there are already so many reviews on this show, I figure I should still right one anyway just because of my personal reaction to it. Let me just start off by saying that I personally enjoy a good sci-fi, while not to far fetched, anime every once in a while like Infinite Ryvius and PlanetES. It is funny now that i think about it because I have had this show on my computer since July 07, yet I just watched it all yesterday. The reason why it took so long for me to finally just try it out is because when i looked at the pictures of it they struck me as somewhat childish looking, animation style wise, and I really can’t stand shows that have animation along those lines.
It’s true that it does in fact start a little slow, but that’s typical of shows with this kind of theme. However all I can say is WOW! I didn’t expect this kind of show at all! IT IS AMAZING! I’m still kicking myself for not watching this sooner.
The Characters are all unique in that they all have almost completely different personality traits but it is true that they have their moments of being somewhat childish.
The animation was also fun in a sense that it seemed more dimensional when they were flying outside in space which is a nice change up and it was better on that note than other shows which make the graphics really terrible looking.
In my opinion the story line was what really caught me. It is about as original as it gets and had its suspenseful parts which kept me guessing about what would happen next. There was some action, comedy, and a little fun romance to spice things up a bit. It was very enjoyable.
Overall, this anime would have to be up at my top five favorites of all so far, and I have seen around 120 so far. No matter what impression you get from just looking at the pics of it or reading about it, IF you are someone who enjoys a GOOD sci-fi, occasional comedy, and drama with love, I STRONGLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU GIVE THIS SHOW A CHANCE!

| BASED ON 18 EPISODES!
till now i think this anime is great.
it is a bit slow at first, but from ep10 it really kicks in.
the thing i like the most is that this anime has quite an originall story line, it doesn't have all those 1000000 time used jokes and cliche's.
actually to those who read books, it reminds me a bit of "Ender's game" which i like a lot.
also the opening song is totally cool! i know it's not that important, an anime can be great even with a lousy opening. however it adds a lot to the fun when u can get into every ep'with a cool opening.
I REALLY RECOMEND WATCHING THIS ANIME! i won't say it's the best since there were some lesser parts (like the childishness of some of the characters). but it is deffinitally an above evaradge anime.
i really hope the ending won't rune the whole thing >_<

| I loved stellvia! This is one of my favorites. This show has a story line that pulls you in, and characters that really make you feel for them. There was never a dull moment, or a time where I wanted to do something else. My full attention was always on the show, and I wanted to watch as many episodes as I could.

| (Rice-Box fansubs. Very good translation and editing and also one of the best end credits of any fansub group I've seen so far. Without it Stellvia would score even lower)
So many reviews already so I'll just post my personal impressions.
My expectations for Stellvia were initially different. I thought it would be a more serious sci-fi anime on par with Infinite Ryvious etc. Instead it turned out like Stratos 4. With the difference that Stratos 4 was much better (in comparison to Stellvia) since it took only 13 episodes and had a little better characters.
So far so good. I thought that although I dont like this kind of anime, I'll try to watch till the end. But 26 episodes were too many. 12-13 episodes would be sufficient. As a result out of the 26 episodes only 5 were worth watching. For the rest I just couldnt focus on the anime and was waiting patiently for it to finish.
The main factors that made this unwatchable for me were the design, the story and the voice actors/actresses.
First of all that design doesnt appeal to me at all. If I was a newbie in animation I wouldnt mind but this is too childish for my tastes. Such big heads, large eyes, tiny mouths and noses are unsuitable for a serious story and characters.
But even if it was supposed to be a funny story I didnt laugh at all. I was rather annoyed. Such high-pitched voices were too much to handle.
Then the characters are all stereotypical and not only that, the anime tries to make male viewers have an inferiority complex towards girls. Unforgivable!
About the story, the anime did well for the first 10 episodes, then it started to crumble. Around ep 19 it turn unwatchable and only ep 25 was well directed but one episode doesnt save a series. Also some moths appear in the second arc, though there wasnt really any reason to include them at all. I thought they'd reappaer in the final episode but they were totally forgotten.
The 3D battles werent that exciting to watch and even older titles have better 3D animation. As I said the design was atrocious.
The OP music was nice and the the second ED too, but sometimes episodes were so mediocre that those songs were the only ones worth listening.
This is a mediocre anime. By the same director of Nadesico. I'll watch Nadesico soon and hope it will be better. If not I'll give Stellvia some points more.
As an introductory sci-fi anime though it is a good choice.
Dont mind me and my review (it is one of 150 anyway), it is just that I'm used to slower and more serious paced animated features and films and dont like such titles. I'll try to be more carefull with my choices from now on.

| I'm not really into sci fi but this anime was just great, besides the sci fi it had drama/romance/comedy so don't think it's just some crazy sci fi.
Fortunately it didn't have cliches like in those shonens with the violence, or fan-service, etc, etc. So if you are sick of those cliches you should definitely check this out or if you have an open mind.

| This anime is totally unique. It was not based off a manga like so many others. I loved the flight simulation and space reality. Its a great sci-fi anime. The characters had a variety of personalities that created an all around personality and feel. Great anime and a much watch

| While Uchuu no Stellvia was slow to start, the last 5 episodes were just wonderful - movie quality story, excellent issues that needed to be solved and well developed characters. The authors could have cut this into the perfect 12 episode series or extended OVA.
High point: Good CG, excellent music, great story, one of the best endings in Anime.
Low point: If you don't understand young japanese women, a few episodes may be lost to you. Some of the Animation is lacking in the social scenes. I have never seen such a huge contrast or variance in the quality of animation and the slow vs. fast storylines.
Overall: This is definitely worth a watch if you are patient and into Sci-fi. The issues presented and the characters are very, very real. The ending is much better than some blockbuster movies.

| Stellvia of the Universe first stuck out to me when I watched it because the characters had surprisingly thick necks - especially the girls. I thought that I would detest the character design forever but in the end I overcame it and got used to it.
Instead I started enjoying the wonderful plot and storyline of Stellvia. It all seems like a cliche - a bunch of kids enter a space academy and get to save the world. Heroes emerge. Hooray. But beyond that is Stellvia's real artful manipulation of characters. The anime successfully makes the kids actually act MATURE, and I felt that though they appeared like children on the outside they were young adults at heart (especially later on in the series). It is hard to find anime with character development that can match Stellvia's because it was so well done that all the characters (even the ones you start off hating) become likable in the end.
Some wonderful OP/ED songs by Angela that reminded me of the mood of Fafner in the Azure - but with a twist of lightheartedness that made me feel content after watching Stellvia. The emotional bonds between characters is evidently very strong and friendship as well as love is [realistically] broken but strengthened once again.
Characters were also designed well and were memorable. Each of them were unique in design as well as attitude. The relationship between Kouta and Shima is explored very thoroughly except the viewers are left hanging a little towards the end. Character interaction was always very exciting and refreshing that it made Stellvia very melodramatic indeed!
Stellvia may be a mecha show but does not contain over-complex technical terms (some anime include those just to make the situation sound more convincing or pro) but Stellvia is able to achieve a realistic atmosphere WITHOUT those confusing and longwinded terms. I commend what an audience-friendly show this is!
I enjoyed Stellvia's greatest achievements - a viewer-friendly environment that is melodramatic as well as emotional at times (to a suitable degree) and very compelling. The value is also there, as the fansubbing was done brilliantly and with precision. The script in itself is worth noting, because womderful moral lessens can emerge no matter how you interpret what the characters say.

| The previous review was lame, so now I rereview it:
A great sci-fi anime filled with sci-fi stuff and greatly executed character interactions. Of course, it didn't fulfill my initial expectations, but I loved it from beginning to end.
The highlight of this anime are the characters. Great setup in the beginning, great execution of the plot to move the characters, and great character development (although a little lacking for the final episode). Each relationship works very well against each other, and the friendship they all have is excellently shown. Though some characters can get emo too much, there's nothing wrong with these scenes because of all the build-up in the beginning. Character designs are a different story, though, because they were really generic and shiny (got used to them, though). It's also a shame that some characters (like the Big Four) got little spotlight.
The animation itself is REALLY shiny - TONS of CG and shiny faces and huge eyes. But the effects are SUPERB: 1. the destruction of Earth was just huge eye-candy and the grip of the series; 2. the spaceships were well designed and flew fluently in space; 3. everything is very bright and nothing stands out (except for the mecha... but at least they had a reason to justify it!!!!*). <3 the shiny animation and raised my opinion about XEBEC. *The mecha, although extremely lame, was justified.
*In case you can't tell, I think mecha are lame, like Gundam and stuff.
Of course, the plotline was everywhere and I think they stuffed too much, even in 26 episodes. First, you have two distinct arcs (that are connected...). Just when you thought it was over, another threat comes in. (Though I never thought it was over anyways, because the end of the first arc was just a beautiful lead-up to the second). Then, there was suppose to be a second season to explain the aliens and other plotholes, but that was cancelled. And then finally, the love drama was just dismissed completely in the last episode - it could have tied things together more nicely if the love had more screentime. In anycase, this series could do with less things for the time it had, or a few more episodes to spread things out.
This was the first sci-fi for me after a huge drought of no sci-fi anime for years. Very rewarding. Worth a watch if you don't mind the emo, the generic designs, or the post-apocalypsic world. (But considering it was aired early morning in Japan, I don't know what the target audience is...).

| I really shouldn't have liked it that much. After all, Stellvia has a pretty straightforward, if decent and (mostly) well-paced "serious" sci-fi plot, its characters develop strictly within shoujo canon, it's got likable, if not innovative character designs, moderate backgrounds, good mecha designs (offset by acceptable to poor CGI rendering), and a truly horrible Giant Robo. Add a bland male lead, some unbearably clichéd characters (I winced every time that ninja guy and Shakespearian chick appeared onscreen), some unmemorable background music with OP and ED of typical J-pop, which I cannot bring myself to like despite having watched 200+ anime series... and you've got an anime that should not be anywhere near top 100.
But, I'm going to rate it better than that.
You see, for me this show succeeds in a much unexpected way. Its first 12 or so episodes play out exactly like old Soviet/Russian sci-fi, which I know, like and enjoy immensely. Right down to the tiny quiet moments, like Katase and her precious sweets in tough moments of her life. It's all about the atmosphere, which is really hard to describe, but it is a good, slightly naive, cheerful and, despite all tribulations past and forthcoming, _hopeful_ world. Of course, mankind has been all but wiped out once and now faces a very real threat to its existence (twice). But here, we have people of all nations working together to overcome it, abandoning, and forgetting, wars and conflicts, all united in yearning for more, and for the better... and for their right to see into the space as it is, with unobstructed eyes.
Which won't happen in the Real World (TM). But, you know, it's OK to dream sometimes. There is a defining moment in the very first episode, it's when Fujiyama, the antigravity orbital transport, takes off from the Nazska drome, and the potential barrier envelops the ship, and then spreads like a density wave which we see from different viewpoints. I don't know, it just felt so unreal and yet so _right_, I had tears in my eyes.
That's exactly what Stellvia really is about.

| This is probably one of the best sci-fi series' I have ever seen. It's balanced between sci-fi, romance and so much more.
The animation is clean and the space scenes and thier designs are well done.
I would reccomend this most to people who loved Martian Sucessor Nadesico and other "non cold" sci-fi series work. The emotional response I recieved throughout the whole series was perfect.

| The animation is clean and uncluttered which helps the viewer focus on the story, a plus point. The bgm, especially the opening title is catchy eventhough I'm not into that type of music. They most important thing with regards to sound in animation to me is a good match between the visual representation of a character and its Seiyuu, and this anime has a good match. The story is atypical at first glance--it appears to be sci-fi/mecha but in fact is a coming of age/relationship story where the sci-fi/mecha part is actually the background setting. In this regards it is similar to a few other titles that I've seen such as Gunparade March, and Hoshi No Koe. The characters aren't overdeveloped or oversimplified, and the balance between the main characters and supporting characters adds to the enjoyment and value of the story, making this anime a worthwile addition to any serious anime fan's collection

| Stellvia is an anime that I had very high hopes for, even though I don't like Mecha or scifi I wanted to see this. I had been wanting to see it for the longest time. It was as good as I thought it would be- and better. No, I have not seen the whole series yet but I will tell you I am looking forward to it. I can't bring myself to saying anything negative about it seeing that it's my favorite.
The animation is clear and all, and it has nice backgrounds. However the movements weren't all that great, and their necks were alittle... 'big'. Also, sometimes the characters looked really deformed.
The sound in Stellvia is amazing. Some of the best sound that I have ever heard. I LOVE the opening; Brilliant Road truly is a brilliant song. The ending is very good too, no as good, but it was very catchy and just a step behind being as good as Brilliant Rode.
The story is Stellvia is obviously a bit 'recycled', as you can see from the overall ratings. Though I do agree, it really 'doesn't need to' be in space, however, if it wasn't there would be no plot whatsoever. Then I'm sure it would have a much lower rating. Anyway I really have no problem with the story, the first impression was great to me. It made me wanting to watch more (unlike Mahoraba, which bored me to death on the first episode, however Stellvia kept me wanting more).
The characters so far are good. I haven't gotten into the dramatic part of Stellvia so they are still kind of getting into the character personalities. I love all the characters to far.
Overall Stellvia is great in the beginning episodes, but once Shima and Kouta are together it begins to fall apart. It should stay as a comedy, not a drama.

| Stellvia is so superficial. First looks it really looks great, but the story concept has been used number of times, and it does not really have to be space. The anime emphasize a lot on space/sci-fi which for some is quite boring.

| I am not really a sf-fanatic, but this anime did catch my attention. It all started with the catchy opening theme, it promised to be something great.
The story is mainly about how Katase Shima develops. Life in space is certainly something we can only imagin, but the idea in this anime was interesting (or I just don't watch sf that much :-(). In the beginning the story was quite interesting, but halfway it became a bit lame and boring. The things like you always see in movies, "save mankind!". That is actually not why this anime became boring, but more like that the story can be anticipated.
I did enjoy watching this anime mainly because of the developments of the characters. The story itself could have been told in 10 episodes.

| An enjoyable anime with multiple layers that unfortunately in spite of complexity doesn't penetrate to deep.
The story is about Katase Shima who is about to experience what school in space is all about and she is then thrown further and further into the core of all events.
The story is probably the strongest point in this anime, imaginative and exiting how the world is like us and yet not. Small social differences that sadly are to few and when shown always overblown. I often find the stereotypical roles in animes quite boring, and although the heroine in this one has qualities that probably no one else has she is by far the most girlish and squeemish. Sometimes her pathetic attemp at getting what she wants in a relationship is not even enjoyable.
So the love and suspension could be better but as anime this a solid one, with the exception of mecha that seems to be forced in by unknown forces. Why mecha couln't leave this one alone I don't know but apperantly the greatest machines of all must be shaped like humans.
Hope you got through this. I do feel like people should see this anime as enjoyable but clearly not rewarding since there is nothing exceptional except the amazing story that often feels real.

| In this crowded genre of space robots and spaceships, it really takes a lot to seperate it self from the rest. This anime does so with solid characters and gripping plot. Though this anime starts out a bit slow, and animation is lacking, it's story and characters more than enough make up for it.
Right from the beginning this anime gets your attention form its catchy opening theme. Though its not the greatest music you will hear (and there are certainly better anime msuic out there), it is still catchy and works overall. The background music is perfect and sets the mood right.
The characters are also very interesting in everyway. All the major ones go through considerble changes and explanation for us to relate to them and to get our sympathy. they suceed mostly in this part. Character interactions, however, are the real interesting part. As characters interact each other emotions will be aroused and situation will rise. We are put in the middle of all the events and it gets very involving.
The story is also great. The characters are not fighting angel who comes to destroy the world nor a evil scientist of any kind, but a threat that is going to destroy the entire world. This anime reminded me of hollywood movies like Armageddon and deep impact in many ways. However this anime is more elaborate.
The bad things kicks in with the animation. I really had problem with the general design of everything. All the characters looks very generic, robots looked ugly, space crafts look lame, and stellvia looked like an tortured umbrella. I eventually got used to it and forgave the horrible design however...
What i really didn't like was the use of CG. CG is good as long as it works. In animes like Last Exile it is done flawless and beautifully. In this anime it sticks out like Yao Ming in the middle of dwarf country (yes imagine that). It really doesn't work nor does it blend in...
The slow early episodes weren't all that helpful either. I really was bored watching the first 8 or 9 episodes or so.
Some of the important charcters really need more development. this problem is due to such a gigantic cast this anie is using. there just weren't enough time to explain everything about every characters. What a shame.
Second half of the anime attempt to present some new plots and twists but many of them just get thrown out for one of them (like the voice beyond the crack, foundations controversy, aliens, and etc). I think it would've been better if they just stuck with the intended plot from the beginning of the second half.
This anime is very good. Though it's plagues by slow beginning, simple animation, and ugly CG, its story and characters are more than enough for us to watch it through the end. When the story takes off it will not let you go till the end. This anime is worth your time.

| I am in love with the show, to be blunt :D Animation/music is flawless! The op/ed themes are great! angela is brilliant indeed :D
Storywise, the show started slow.. But once it sets into motion (ep 7+), it continues to expand interestingly throughtout. The drama is quite intense, and the main characters really shine out in the middle. Character develpment for them are indeed very good, but the side characters are quite lacking though. But still, what they did with the main characters are impressive. You can almost feel their joys and pain.
Somewhat depressing and hopeful, this is a dramatic show that will draw you in the more you watch. And, forgive me but i will be blunt once more, I love this show to bits!

| The animation is really good. Many of the graphic effects are amazing and I like the design of the characters. The sound suits each moment very well and the opening/ending are both good songs that suit this show very well. I find the story to be so interesting and addictive. It's not just a girl saving the world, there is much more in it. There is much more action than relationships. I think some of the characters were weak, but overall they are good. The main character is , in my opinion, a really interesting and nice girl, and her emotions and actions are coherent.
Personally I enjoyed this show so much, it kept me stuck until the end.
