best manga i know. after the first few volumes you might think, it's just an ordinary hero-beats-everyone-up manga. still keep on reading, it might be true to some extent, but with every volume coming out it just gets more amazing (even if you don't like pirate stories :). the mangaka gives me the feeling, that he is planning the plot really far ahead. design, story, characters, humor just perfect. also since it's basically a fighting manga the balance is very important, and the balance in op is just perfect, since the main chars are not too overpoewered.

The artwork, at first, appears to be lazy and rough, but after a while, it shows that it was crafted with great specificity. The lines aren't precise, but then the book reflects that unhinged, going-by-the-seat-of-your-pants mentality. And some of the panel angles are distinctively creative. The art also pounds home the comedic value in the series when it needs to, but doesn't do so in an overly annoying way.

One Piece was on another level I didn't expect it to reach. And yet it exceeded those expectations with flashes of brilliance. It is enjoyable, but this volume is series at the same time. And the two elements are nicely mixed to form a well-rounded tale of fun, adventure and love. Even if that tale of love involves a blue-nosed reindeer.

One Piece is all about Pirates! With a very humorous storyline, great characters, and excellent creativity, One Piece is sure to hook any manga fan of any age or gender!

Meet Monkey D. Luffy, a young man who wants to become the Pirate King and obtain the ultimate treasure. "One Piece"! Luffy leaves his hometown to gather a crew, find a ship, then head to the Grand Line to become the greatest pirate since Gol D. Roger. Fortunately for Luffy, Luffy ate the mysterious Gum-Gum Fruit ("Devil's Fruit") and was given the powers of a rubber man. When I first started reading this manga, I was a little skeptical at first. "Isn't that kind of a lame power, being made out of rubber?" Amazingly enough, the mangaka (author) does an outstanding job getting creative with the powers! Eventually we run into more and more characters, both good and evil who have also tasted the Devil's Fruit and gained some totally unthinkable powers. (Who would've thought of an ability that allows someone to make a door out of anything?!?)

OVerall, if you are looking for a manga with fun characters, pirates, eating, pirates, bizarre powers, pirates, silly humor, pirates, and a lot of butt-kicking action, then One Piece is for you! (Did I forget to mention pirates?)

One of my favorite shonens. Heh I became interested in this when I first saw the anime which was about the time of Captain Kuro Arc. The fight scenes are intense and adrenline rushing, but has a comical side as well. Its definitely series worth reading and probably one that you remember for a loooong time. Personally I find One Piece a much better series then Naruto.

Ahh One Piece, a masterpiece by the Genius Eiichiro Oda.

One Piece is a great manga set in the older days. The golden Age of Pirates, so to speak. It is about a young man named Monkey D Luffy, who sets off on an epic quest to find the Legendary Pirate Treasure known only as: The One Piece. It is located in The Grand Line; a place shrouded in Mystery, and said to be extremely dangerous.

This is where the manga begins, in a vast and very comfortable world, full of strange occurences, and even stranger people. It's so interesting, you will find that you are very eager to find out how it goes, and when you do, it doesn't fail to impress you!

One Piece manga is awesome! I admit that the beginning is very slow and uneventful, and I thought it was not too impressive but the latter chapters totally sky-rocket. Because towards the end, One Piece focuses less on fighting (which is what DBZ, Bleach, etc.) are solely about, and focuses more on a wacky sense of fun with a team of pirates that are loveable in ever way.

True, the characters are not very human (they dont really get seriously depressed and stuff) and similar to those DBZ/Bleach animes the characters hardly change in a noticeable progressive fashion. It may be true that the characters are super powerful and seem to lack any real, sympathizable human nature that the reader/viewer can sympathize with, but the overall bond that is established in One Piece is truly heartwarming. Even though each character joined the crewed with selfish reasons in mind, the way Luffy and everyone else turns everyone's stone heart into something warm and loving is just amazing. For example, Nami began the series and Nico Robin totally gave up in living a normal life. But the journeys this wacky pirate crew go on and all the trouble they get into but somehow get out off just makes you feel as if you're part of this crew.

The thing with One Piece is that it progressively gets more and more serious. In the beginning, it does have the episodic feel where only character essences maintain consistency from chapter to chapter. I feel that Luffy's crew's eventual challenging of the World Government marks the transition from mindless humor to more complex themes. If you follow the growth of the crew, it is very slow at the beginning. Just now they have learned to have an undying sense of trust between each other. In terms of the power ladder, Luffy's crew is VERY VERY low. He may have a 100 million beli bounty on his head now, but according to some sources there are hundreds above him. So, as things progressively get more dire, and as the crew meets some real obstacles, One Piece can only improve from the progression and growth that has happened so far.

There are so many mysteries in One Piece that the reader has just been introduced, but slowly they will progress towards unfolding these events. Furthermore, there are a lot of weird relationships between characters that haven't been elaborated upon. One Piece may be somewhat guilty of overextending with too much humor episodes without quickly elaborating on story elements, but I feel that this will change.

Again, One Piece characters are quite simplified in terms of personality. But there are a lot of subtle changes that will go unknown if you do not continue to read past the 15 volumes. There are actually a few internal conflicts in the crew that pop up from time to time due to an ideal clash. This even leads a crew member to leave for a period of time, as well as a serious crew fight.

Overall, I admit, all the wacky fun makes One Piece hard to take seriously and for one to look beneath for anything meaningful. But I feel that ever since the Crocodile arc, One Piece has more than what meets the eye as well. Although it may be simpilified, I am really influenced and moved by One Piece's message about camaraderie. The whole attitutude that later develops of "We will take on the world one step at a time as long as we are together" seems to me like a possible ideology. A few other themes are not as easily forgetable as you claim include include, "Life may be bleek but as long as you have friends you can overcome any obstacle.";
"Dont be suppressed and carried away by authority just because it exists. Fight for your ideals and dreams."
"A strong will and a positive outlook on life can make life that much better."

The magic of One Piece is that the characters all interact with each other. Take one out and something is missing.

The only reason I decided to buy this manga in the first place was a) it was very cheap, and b) all the boys in my class were reading it.

Turns out it was one of the best choices I've ever made.

It's funny, it's beautiful, the art is amazing, the characters are gorgeous and the bad guys are even better. What more could you ask for?

The one word to describe this manga is balance. it has everything for your over all enjoyment.

i got 30+ volumes all at one, and i red it in like a week. the only thing that kept me away form my computer that week was sleep and food.

it just shows how good this manga is; you just cant get bored/tired of it.

At a much farther place in the storyline than where Kaizoku-fansubs is at subbing the One Piece anime, I have decided that reading only up to the place where Kaizoku-fansubs is at is the best way to go. This is still a great manga, great story, and everything else, I just think that seeing this one animated is better.

I only skipped ahead to see the fight with Eneru...man I can't wait to see that animated! Hurry up K-F!

I'm finding it difficult to like this manga. I started on the arabasta arc, cos the anime was coming too slowly for my tastes. Anyway, I prefer the anime, the comedy is funnier in anime version. I'm not really enjoying this, I feel bored and the fights aren't that good either, a lot of times it's hard to see what exactly happens and so on.
