i was anticipating this anime for a long time being a sonic fan: the following review is based off the first 10 eps that i watched; afterwards, i just gave up on it.

this anime had two major flaws. #1 was that there were human characters. this is just dumb b/c the audience starts realizing how short sonic is (he looks like a stuffed animal); and then the animation for the humans.. lets say it made u feel like the anime was gonna suck already.

i started this anime with high hopes. the first episode was good. the animation was nice, and sonic's attitude had me swooning. this had high hopes, and even with the human characters, i was tolerant. this could be ok i thought.... i loved how sonic out raced the police cars in ep 1.

then flaw #2 came out, and its inredeemable. Chris (the boy main character). ok, what was the anime creator smoking? chris is so annoying, that i hated him the SECOND i saw him at the end of ep 1. his face is annoying. the way he acts is annoying. his whole existence is annoying.
chris brought the anime down increasingly each episode. the characters started becoming 'cutesy' and it started to feel like pokemon. ash and his pikachu. it was horrible, i coudn't stand it.

the anime had so much potential because of how good it looked (animation), but then went down the trash after episode 1 and got worst after each ep. even though its a "kids" anime, theres NO EXCUSE! digimon adventures, for example, was a triumph despite its supposed age bracket.

now one thing i must say: for those criticizing the old sonic series, i beg to differ. the SATam sonic series was the best ever made, because robotnik was believably evil (not stupid like he is now--comparable to team rocket...). the whole thing was more dark and realistic, and somewhat dramatic. sonic had no guarantee to save his friends, and everything had somewhat of a Gundam Seed feeling to it. SATam rules. sonic X sucks beyond belief.

This review is based on the Jap version of Sonic X, it contains 77 eps, first 52 is the first season, and the rest is 2nd season. The story line of first season, isnt that great, because I think there is not much fighting around. Season 2 changed, it is more a battle based, and in fact, there is a few romance sence. Overall, it scored a very good rating, and I think is a huge change when compare to the previous series.

This anime has only one thing in common with the video games: the Sonic cast.

Sonic X puts the good name of Sonic to shame. I haven't seen anything this horrid that had anything related with Sonic since the Saturday morning series. I'm pretty sure nobody would have even bothered watching this if Sonic wasn't in the series.

However, it isn't really bad as it is really boring to watch. Repeatitive "robot-of-the-day" and plot elements used in the games that I've already beaten, so why should I see it dragged out and wait a week for the next episode when I can just turn on the Dreamcast and beat it in a couple of days?

What possessed the guys at Sega to introduce humans into the Sonic universe? This has to be the biggest mistake I've ever seen, on par with Sonic 3D Blast's badness level. Worse, Chris just HAD to be the primary human in the series. All he does is whine and get in the way. I literally had to force myself to keep watching, and it was barely fruitful patience. At least a couple of things happen by the end of the second season that warrant some hope for the third season, if not a lot.

As for the anthros themselves, you have to wonder how Sonic and Eggman enjoy being so repetitive towards each other. The episodes are so formulaic, it's disgusting. This works wonderfully for the 1991 release of the game that started the Sonic craze and the sequels that followed shortly thereafter: this doesn't work for 52 episodes of anime. The character designs are updated and buffed for a polished look, which is a positive from prior Sonic animations, but that's easily overlooked when you have everyone screaming for Sonic to save their butts ALL THE TIME. Rarely do the other anthros do any rescuing by themselves, and when it does happen, they have to have special circumstances purposely set up for this. If you don't believe me, watch the episode where Tails dismantles a bomb, or when Amy and Sam Speed destroy a Badnik in the open plains. Even Knuckles is given only one episode where he's the main anthro, then it never happens again throughout the two seasons.

The first season has a more original storyline, perhaps on par with the original Genesis game that involves the eternal rivalry between Sonic and Eggman. The second season immerses us with harried anime renditions of recent Sonic titles, running from Sonic Adventure, Sonic Adventure II, Sonic Advance, and more, stopping before Sonic Heroes came out. They cram these into 26 episodes, forcing the action and stories through some kind of compressor, not allowing us to enjoy the first saga's conclusion before forcefeeding us with the next, rinse and repeat. Throw in Chris, and I watched a recipe for disaster unfold before my eyes. I don't think the third season will follow this kind of disastrous experiment, but Sonic Heroes wasn't animated yet, to my knowledge, so I can't decide until I see it.

Video game-to-anime renditions don't seem to work properly for one simple reason: the simplistic plot that makes a game successful should be kept to the game. It doesn't belong to anime, which demands rich story and characters. This holds true for any VTA, whether it's Street Fighter, Final Fantasy, or Sonic. If you have some curiosity for watching Sonic X, you can try the first few episodes, but you'll quickly grasp the concept well enough that you understand the rest of the series without watching it. If you're looking for favorite characters, I recommend reading episode guides and watching from there instead of sitting through filler just to find some semblance of the character you want to see.

This anime just berates Sonic's adventures. Seriously, NEVER make an "american anime" if they don't know fuckin' shit about the criteria.

Animation just SUCKS. Besides sonic running in a cheesy "speed as light" motion, everything is so cheap, and the dubbing is pathetically off a lot of the time.

I gave the sound a 2, because the music sucks, the voice actors suck (And were they incredibly HIGH when then did E-102's voice? The robot may be a girl, but COME ON!), and the announcer... if I have to hear his voice in yet ANOTHER fuckin' FOX anime, I'll slit the makers of that stupid Saturday kid event in HALF.

If there were negatives, the story would win it by a long shot. It's about collecting these stupid-ass crystals,(This goes for the game, too.)and then doing the most idiotic fucking things for them. PLAY BASEBALL FOR A CRYSTAL WORTH MORE THAN A CORPSE OF MY PET RAT!? What...the fuck.

The character is almost just as bad. They are so out of character of the real thing.(It's based off the video games, by the way.) I could make something SO similar of SAilormoons stupid characters, badly animate them, and it would be better than that cheap shit FOX is giving to us.

Tokyo Movie Shinsha my goddamn ASS. If it was actually directed by a Japanese person for the english most part, it would still be horrible, but I bet it would get atleast a 4 out of my books. Oh, but no-ooo! He HAD to get some other cheesy idiot to do this.

Ugh, making myself talk about this sets the swearing flame on me. You'll only like it if you're hypnotized by Sonic's merchandise.

Do I even need to say it?

Yeah, I really like Sonic so I really like this show. I could see people that have no interest in Sonic really disliking it tho. Opening is one of the best anime songs in recent memory. In the beginning, it drags a little but when the Sonic Adventure story arcs begin, it's great. By the way, I'm not talking about the FoxBox version which is shit...except for their opener which is unnecessary to replace, but still a cool song.

Sonic X... Come on... Its Sonic... THE Sonic... Who doesn't like Sonic...? High speeding blue streaking hedgehog... Well Sonic as most of us will know, is about the blue hedgehog fighting the Evil Dr. Eggman (Robotnik)...

It was another day fighting Eggman when suddenly, Sonic triggered a reaction that took him and his friends (Tails, Knuckles, Amy and many more) as well as his enemy to the human world... He outran a special F-1 style police cruiser even with Nitros at 500+ mph and befriended a young boy named Chris...

The story then goes on and unfolds when they have to find the 7 Chaos Emeralds and such... The story is quite interesting but the fights are fast... Too fast... even for Sonic... 1-hit KOs are not action material... But then, if you like anime or Sonic or both, u will definately watch this one...

This is a good anime show but it is a typical "saving the world" cartoon. Other than that it is a good enough anime to watch.

So Sonic is back! So what? His time was the 90s. Oh well, Yuji Naka is making his little blue creature going "Pokémon-style" with new games, toys and other merchandises. And now this anime with a overused story about Dr. Eggman going crazy taking over the world. We heard it before, Sonic kicks Eggmans ass and plans in every episode and this time Sonic gets Amy... wich is... horribly wrong!!

I don't know... *I* thought it was pretty darn good! Of course, I was a sonic freak for a good half of my life, so maybe it's nostalgia.
In any case, I think Sonic X is a good way to get Sonic into the "Sonic Adventure" era of the Sonic legacy. The addition of Knuckles as a regular chara was good, and I felt the animation was well-done and appropriately bright and cheerful. Action was decent, and I actually enjoyed the "sonic on planet Earth" idea. It certainly makes more sense than the Sonic movie, with it's catgirl princess and such.
As far as Sonic animated series go, I really enjoyed the ABC Sat. Morning cartoon version with Princess Sally&co. which was based on the Archie comic. But this one is great for the game version Sonic.
*DON'T* watch it on Fox. Man, the dub is lousy. Esp. Knuckles; he sounds like some vegeta knock-off. The voice from the Japanese movie was much better.

While both the variance and plot in this anime stays low, it's fun to watch anyway. If you were TIRED of the old Sonic cartoon, I can sure you that this isn't anything like that cr¤p. The characters are the same as in the GBA and NGC games newly made, and storyline could became the same; as it's not many episodes aired yet. The bad guys name here isn't any longer Robotnik, since the game creators gave up since it stood "Eggman" everywhere in the japanese games. He gives Sonic a real battle nearly every episode, along with Tailsu and Knukrusu, their friends.
Please download this anime, even raw it's worth seeing! Comes dubbed next year, so hurry-hurry!!

This is an excellent reincarnation of the long-forgotten Sonic animation. This anime heavily factors in pieces from the Sonic Adventure universe, one drastically different from the Archie Comics or ABC's SonicAM. The voice-acting is great, almost an exact match from the games, and although the characters personalities have been altered slightly for Sonic Adventure, this stays true to both, satisfying fans of both. The animation is clean and sharp, using the bright cell colors that any Sonic fan is used to, and mixing in CGI graphics to spice up one or two areas. All around, it's a lot of fun, and a definite watch.

This review is based on only 1 episode fansubbed of sonic X.
The animation is ok and fast sometimes
The music is far to be the greatest thing on this anime but it's still ok.
I won't mark the story and character because of the lack of episode available right now but the story so far is ok even if I'm affraid it may be a bit repetitive after a while.
At the end we have nothing of really unforgettable but overall it's a good anime and many sonic fans will love it.

I heard this was coming to the US tv lineup soon and being somewhat of a Sonic fan, I decided to give it a try.

It feels like a kids show but is a little bit better. Like for once the plot takes a turn. Usually, you get shows like Digimon, Rockman EXE or Monster Rancher where the character gets thrown into a new world of creatures with insane powers. With this, a small cast of the Sonic Team get transported into the Human world.

Its not a bad show although they did seem to drag on lots of stuff that would take less time to handle in most situations. But the animation is pretty good and helped me go along with it.
Kids....you will eat this up
Sonic fans...you will eat this up too^_^

I totally underestimated this one. Almost thought I'd skip it. First of all... the animation turned out to be quite better than I had imagined. The intro sounded pretty bad at first, but then, when it was used later in the episode I came to like it. A lot -grin-. Reminded me of Launch Base Zone, which I'm listening to just now, actually. Couldn't resist. Yeah, great music. Goes perfect with Sonic's cool attitude. Then to the story... I rated it, but... I was thinking of the chaos emerald thing. Pretty good way to change Sonic's surroundings, but th rest seems to be... shouldn't take things to seriously. Character... I've never liked talking animals, but Knuckles were quite cool, and I dun' even need to mention Sonic, ne? I actually had to watch some scenarios again right after watching it, so the value is high. The kiddy thing in this also made me laugh, so... The enjoyment is high too. They must've thought it through, this 'bout making it kiddy but yet cool. This should definitely be watched.

I've had a little less than two semesters worth of introductory Japanese, so I also was only able to pick up a few pieces of actual dialogue. Luckily, Sonic cartoons are never exactly Dickens, so I think I've got a good idea of what happened. I don't want to pass judgement without seeing some subtitles at least, but from what I can see I would say it has the potential to be the second best Sonic cartoon yet. But for that to happen, the rest of the (game)cast is going to need to get a lot more screen time. As of the first episode, it seems like a bad fanfic, with the characters we know and love taking a backseat to the new human characters. Once Robotnik starts stirring things up, I think things will pick up.
