Narue no Sekai is a pretty fun watch. If you're looking for an engaging plot, painful character development or philosophical meditations Narue won't be all that interesting but if you're looking for something to cheer you up on a rainy autum or winter day or a series with a starship wearing a wedding dress, I can definitly recommend Narue no Sekai.
The only real gripe I had with this series was that the music was way too loud compared to the voices and other sounds, which is a shame but didn't make the series much less enjoyable.

Light and relaxing show with likeable characters. No big plot, no angst, no death battles and no big mecha prancing around (well, maybe one in a wedding dres). A story of two people who enjoy each other's company and are together right from the start is very refreshing to me. The slice of life stories that made every episode with a little weirness from the whole alien element made the series pleasan to watch. I wish there were more episodes though.

What a weird little anime, supposedly its to combine comedy, romance and sci-fi into this.. kind of a standard in the anime world eh?

This anime reminds me of Onegai Teacher in many ways, mainly due to its high emphasis on the main characters and its romantic gesture, and in some respects it does some things better than Onegai Teacher.
The romance in this anime is pretty good, the two main characters showed enough devlopment and design to show they care for one another, maybe not the strongest relationship i've seen btu it is certainly there. Though the romance is weird and wacky, it is pretty cute and sweet stuff.

Comedy wise, this is 'ok' stuff, thoguh not an all-out laughter anime, it certainly has its moments. Though, much of the praise has to go to the cutness of this anime.

Story-wise, it ain't strong enough, not enough emphasis has been placed on the story or plot at all, thoguh it was obvious they have tried, it was nothing amazing that most anime fans have seen before. As this is the main weak point for this anime, the way it tried to take itself too seriously when in some respects, it didn't really need to.

Overall, a decent little anime to take time away, a little sharpening up needs to be done on the story and other character's development, otherwise its sweet, cute romantic story is pretty enjoyable stuff. Though not amazing...

7/10

Narue no Sekai is one of my favourite anime series ever. I haven't seen any anime out there which has as carefree and lovely atmosphere, never ^^. Story is about romance of alien girl Narue and ordinary boy Kazu, and that is about all story there is. Story doesn't improve almost at all, and characters won't change almost at all. Good news is that atleast I didn't spot that episodes would repeat themselves, so it was great to watch till the end.

Main idea of this series is to be fun, carefree and happy, and for me that succeeded. I haven't enjoyed many animes as much as this. Most of times, people just help other people out, or have fun, and most of times it is fun to watch. There might be hardships, or something, but never anything serious, and always it is really enjoyable to watch this series.

This series had one fatal problem though... It was too short. I want to see more ^^

Narue is the dead-center, on-target, absolute best example of of the average anime that results when you take a story that everyone likes a little bit, and try and turn it into something that everyone will love. That's really the best way to describe Narue, as average. The story is average, mostly predictable, mostly enjoyable with little supprises for you to worry about. The characters are all average and fill the personality-prerequisets needed in a harem show. The animation is the average digital type, and the bgm used througout is noticable, but nothing to write home about. Average.

Everyone will like something in Narue, but because it appeals to such a large audience, it doesnt have enough time to become anything other then your average show.

It had potential, but sadly character development -- or even the ability to create interesting and likeable characters -- wasn't there (Of the two main characters, Narue is a really shallow character and Kazuto can be a bit annoying to watch -- he's so effeminate). The storyline was very basic with many unanswered questions about the aliens. That would've been fine however since the main focus of the anime was the relationship between Narue and Kazuto. However their relationship is very shallow and underdeveloped as well.

The saving grace of this anime would perhaps be Narue's older/younger sister who provides some nice comic relief, but even that wasn't very much.

For all its flaws however, Narue no Sekai remains an easy watch that does provide some enjoyment -- basically it's an okay time killer, although there are much better things to be doing.

Narue no Sekai isn't bad. It's got cute characters and decent romance, good animation and heartwarming episodes. But there is one area in which it fails miserably, and that is the music. Nearly every episode is scored with the exact same four or five pieces of music. It's absurd. I mean, repeating a key theme or melody is one thing, but to use the exact same compositions over and over does nothing to improve an anime. I would have liked the series to be longer because the characters were very likable, but not if the darn music was going to keep repeating like that. o_O; Anyway, this is a fun series, so give it a try.

This anime is quite simple. A family of alien come from the other planet immigrated to the Earth and live a normal life. Blah blah blah... Anyway, that's not important. The important thing about this anime is the romance between Kazuto and Narue. The development between Narue and Kazuto is crystal clear. That makes them quite a perfect couple, dispite that Narue comes from other planet. This anime is so light tone and very enjoyable to watch. It's funny to see that Kazuto is the one who is protected by a girl. The cosplay contest episode is more like the major development of their relationship. Despite how otaku-ish Kazuto becomes, Narue able to manage to solved the problems between them for their relationship. However, by loving the same thing that Kazuto likes doesn't seems like a compromise. She's more like an ideal girlfriend that every guy want to get. To see Narue getting jealous to an anime idol sure is funny. That's probably the main reason why she joins the cosplay contest.
The final fight is pretty stupid, though, but fun to watch. The story was leaded to an open ending. Seems like this relationship will last a long time.
There's a lot of thing that doesn't make sense. Since Narue is from space, she has a hunam form of body. Kanaka is the elder sister but is younger then her younger sister, Narue...etc. I don't bother to bitching about this because it's an anime. So I care less about it.
In this short 12 episode romantic comedy, a very well development has achieved, so it's good.
The mixture of action and romance in this series is observed. Unlike "The Ugly and Beautiful World," which is released two years after this anime, is a bad mixture of actions with romantic comedy. In "Narue no Sekai," however, did a much better mixture, because the background of the fight is well known: Space police vs. Space terrorist.
Since the fighting is not the main point, the romance in this series is very light and makes this a special romantic comedy then other typical anime in the same genre.

I like the concept of Narue no Sekai. All those living ships, teleporting and terrorists. It could have been a nice love story, with depth and intrigue.

But they had to work much more on character design! C'mon those terrorists looked pitiful. I felt sorry for them for their appearance. And the other thing this anime leans on: the fanservice…..well it’s terrible. I have no other words for it. I couldn’t even stand the music.
And the story....OMFG....what story? It was only a build-up and I really hope no company is going to spend money on a continuation of this series.
I recommend this title to everyone, since in my opinion everybody must see a pitiful version of terrorists.

It is your standard schoolyard (middle school 14 year old) human boy and alien chicky show.

Althought the genre is standard it can be implemented good, but from a good implementation perspective this is low quality (hhmmm... does that make sense, wel the point is "this show is flawed in character, animemation and story")

When a show is flawed it only has it setting to go on but when that is also a bit to standard then you get a misser. Forget this anime and watch something else because there is much more intresting stuff.

hmm, this show was great for the first 12 episodes, but it then, just sort of, ends. Watching episode 11, I wondered how they could possibly end it, and as episode 12, I said to myself, maybe they got it wrong, nothing much happened, they only finish a few story lines. I would not be surprised if a season 2 comes out, of course, I am still waiting for Narutaru season 2. Now for some good points about this story: The animation is pretty good, even though they never go overboard. The sound is so-so, it isn't bad, but there is not really anything memorable. The story is similar to a few animes, and it really fits the mold for the typical magical girlfriend genre. The characters were great, and some of them develop a bunch, while others never change. The disappointment is that the main character's, Kazuto, voice is pretty annoying in a Shinji at his whiniest sort of way. Value and enjoyment both rake up 10s to balance this out since it deserves a B+ rating, and it was rather enjoyable and worth my time, and I am pretty sure I will end up watching this again at some point. While there are better things out there, this is pretty good for its genre. I would recommend you watching this, and disregard anyone who gives this anime below a 4, as you should with ever anime review on the site.

This is a pretty good boy/girl highschool love story. There's really no out and out plot or anything: every episode is basically a day (or days) in the life of Narue and Kazuto. While unorthodox, I found it to be a rather refreshing change from the usual plot driven stories (not that that's a bad thing). If you're looking for a break from work or something, this is the perfect anime to just sit back and watch an episode of. Overall, it's not an anime that will leave a deep philosophical impression on you or make you sad, but if you're just looking for something really random to entertain you for a couple hours, NNS wouldn't be a bad choice.

Reviewed after watching all 12 episodes.

I loved this anime. It's sweet, gentle, and fun, with instantly likable characters and stories that put a smile on my face -- very much in the same way that Orange Road did long ago.

Now if you keep reading, I'll tell you some information that I've seen no one else mention.

#1: While I loved the OP and ED songs, the BGM (score music) is only so-so -- but that's because they didn't use original music for the show! Instead, well before the anime was produced, they made a series of Drama CDs, and just used the BGM music composed for those Drama CDs as the BGM for the show! Ack! It does the job, but could have been better.

#2: Narue is NOT a copy of Onegai Teacher like people keep saying it is. Narue may have made it to the airwaves later than Onegai Teacher, but all the stories in the Narue anime are taken right from the Narue no Sekai manga -- which was written well before OT was ever produced. There are 5 volumes of the manga (it never finished.. yet), and they're from a ways back. After the manga came a series of Drama CDs (CDs acting out the stories from the manga). And then quite a while later it got turned into an anime. So it's completely wrong to say it's a copy of Onegai Teacher. It may seem that way, but if anything, it's really the other way around. Still, I liked OT too, so what's the big deal if there are similarities between two fun shows?

By the way, there are some really funny stories in the Narue manga, including one where Narue's transporter goes haywire, and produces two Narues :)
But it's not done over-the-top silly, but rather realisitcally with humor. The anime episodes also strike that same wonderful balance.

#3: I hope Central Park Media releases this title in 2004 as promised! The fansub groups did a good job, but the
Japanese DVD is a ripoff, with only two episodes per disc! But a special edition VOLUME 1 DVD does come with an optional audio commentary track with the voice actors of Narue and Kazuto, as well as a special made-for-this-DVD "CD Special", with lots of drama tidbits, and interviews with many of the various voice actors.

I actually never read the Narue manga until I started watching the anime. I was so impressed that I bought all 5 volumes, as well as the first Drama CD (which covers the beginning of the story arc) and the special DVD #1 set with the extras.

I normally wouldn't buy all this stuff, but it should give you an indication of how much I liked this.

I've seen people rag on this show as not being something they wanted -- a preconceived notion. Yes, a lot of the stories are stand-alone stories, but that's what the series is about -- the things that happen in the life of this girl and the world around her. If you keep an open mind, I think you'll fall in love with this show and her universe. If you want fighting mecha, go somewhere else. If you want a sweet, funny, gentle little comedy to put a light smile on your face, look no further.

"Narue no Sekai" ("Narue's World") is worth a closer look!

I'm glad to hear CPM will be releasing the entire show in one box set ($79 list, but I've found it as cheap as $48 online w/free shipping at places like deepdiscountdvd.com), so you can see the whole show at once. Also, if CPM actually releases the manga as they promised (starting May 2004), it should be great, as the manga has lots of really funny stories in it.

Reviewed after watching ep. 11

Narue no Sekai is about a boy, Kazuto, who had his life saved by a classmate, Narue. Smitten by her deeds, he asks her out, and the two become a couple and they go on teenage adventures.

This was the sixth anime series that I viewed, and was first impressed by the originality of such a series -- a space alien girl and a normal boy. Unfortunately, after watching other anime and really thinking about this anime, there isn't much impressive about this anime, since it has all been done many-a-time, except for Narue and her family being aliens.

Recommendation to only those who have a _lot_ of time to burn.

EDIT: Well, I never would believe I'd get episode 12, but I did.. and, yeah, the series basically went off the deep end with the last episode.

A great anime that somehow manages to be really good even though it's really clichéd without parodizing the genre.

A good thing is that the main characters doesn't have to keep working to get each other all the time. The 'working' couple are some others, instead. This lets us focus on the story, which is not explored very much in this season, a very short season too.

Oh, and there's a lot of fanservice, good or bad, I'm not the one to decide. It *is* a major part of this series though, I could not imagine what it would be without it.

I absolutely LOVED this show. The characters are fun, and what really impressed me was how believable they were. If you're going to have a half-human, half-alien girl, the norm in anime is to have everything be wild and full of cliches. Not here. Narue is totally believable as someone you might know and go to school with, even down to her over-frugalness with money (getting mad with her father when he leaves milk out). As I was watching it, I was just waiting for the cliches to happen -- but thankfully they didn't. When Kazuto's best friend gives him advice on girls, it isn't to set up a gag, it's actually good advice, and it works. Sure there are plenty of hijinks that happen, but the show is what the titles promises: a glimpse into the world of Narue, a 14yr-old half-alien, half-human girl.
The only shortcomings are with the animation and music (both adequate, but not exactly impressive). Still, the strong story, characters, and voice acting make this show a winner. There are just a few quick panty shots, but they go by fast, and aren't indicative of the rest of the show.
By far the best anime of 2003 for me. Sweet, funny, and leave you wishing there were 26 episodes, not just 12. Can hardly wait until its official US release by Central Park Media in Q1 of 2004!

Let's first state that I watched all 12 episodes of this show - and I was really surprised that a show which is as short as this one can have THAT many fillers...
The main story is nearly non-existend with the space terrorists being the enemies (or something like this) but only showing up in the first and last (!) episode. The only character development I could see was with Yagi, who first wasn't really fond of Narue but then they grew good friends. And Kanaka maybe, because she first didn't like Kazuto... Kazuto remains all the time the same he is at the beginning- you can say he is one of the most boring main characters I've seen so far... After all he doesn't affect the (mostly boring or unnessecary) events at all and he could be replaced by any other male character, the show could only get better^^. The animations are the only point that boosts this show, although I would say they are worse than the ones of other anime from the year 2003.
The worst thing was in my opinion the cosplay episode, because it was REALLY unimportant not to mention boring...
The comedy part of this show is quite small with some good jokes but when you are looking for that kind of entertainment watch Chobits or Love Hina...
I rated value this low because you can find lots of anime that cover the same (or a similar) topic and are much better than this one. PLUS I have no intention to watch this show one more time...

This show is the perfect lazy summer day show. Perhaps that's why it struck a chord with me. I watched this show during a summer when I had nothing to do and it was too hot to go outside. So I just watch Narue no Sekai and life was good. Nothing about this show is all that special, but the overall effect is much greater than the sum of it's parts. It's establishes a very laid back atmosphere, with nothing really going. I recommend this show to pass the time on those lazy summer days.

Overall Grade: C+

Not too bad for a high school romance. I'm glad the sci-fi element served only as a backdrop and never did overwhelm the main story or take a life or its own (such as happened in Gunparade March, confusing many).

Characters were interesting but a little underdeveloped imho, characters like the bald kid or the snobbish blonde girl serving only as props or comic relief in the end really. The ending felt a little weak and hasty too, so there really ought to be a sequel for this one. Overall a sweet, simple romance, with a mild dash of pantsu and ecchi.
