The third Sakura Wars OVA is unlike the first two in that it lacks Sakura and the other old main characters. The new characters just lacked something in my opinion. The storyline does basically follow the same premise as before, the girls are in a theater troupe and must defend the city from demons/monsters. This time the city they are defending is Paris and the theater troupe is called Charlettes Noir. If you want to know more about this decent OVA read on.

I have to admit, I don't follow Sakura Taisen as close as I should. I don't take it as an overly complicated anime so I don't think much about it.

But given that, even this thing comes out of left feild for me!! However, as has been explained, that won't ruin a series like Sakura Taisen. Bottom line, I HIGHLY recomend this one but don't expect it to include the typical ST characters, obviously it doesn't (though they are similar), and don't expect introductions. I can only assume that the dub will be much better though, as, like the old ST or Read or Die, it will likeley add accents that 'flesh out' the characters, I saw it on fansub. Also the Sound absoluteley wreaks... I mean the songs aren't familiar or catchy at all like in the other OVAs. You gotta wonder if Kohei Tanaka is still doing them.

Following in typical Sakura Taisen fasion, not playing the games equals not knowing what's going on in the OVAs. I thought that this was really simmilar to the original Sakura Taisen OVA in terms of content, and the style of the show. The visuals are probably the best out of any of the ST OVA installments and while the story seems kind of glossed over, it has a lot of action and was generaly pretty fun to watch. A nice change of pace from the normal Imperial Flower Troupe members, but it still assumes that you're a diehard fan of the games and know everything about everyone already.

I haven't seen any Sakura Taisen before. I'm not really sure do I want to see any more of it.

The series keeps introducing new characters but doesn't really bother to explain who they are and why are they doing anything (like one girl just appears between episodes and nothing is explained of her). There's a bad guy and they use an episode to hunt her down. Of course the main characters aren't doing it but some army dudes. And in the next episode something weird has happened with her (not telling what because it might spoil somebody's fun). There's this other bad girl, but she remains a mystery with only a couple of scenes.

Animation was ok, but the mecha fight in the last episode looked pretty pathetic. This OVA feels like a big series TV series compressed into three parts: every happens quickly, explanation are kept to minimum and I get incredibly bored.

Its better than the 13eps of the sakura wars TV. It says 4 eps, but up to 3 eps, at the end says finish. So which is true, animeinfo-4eps, but I've seen 3 so far, and looks like that is the last ep.
But still no encounter with the final boss. Which is a drag. Just one great battle in ep 3. The 1st and 2nd eps are concentrating on recruitment of members, which is not balanced for all members. 2 members are given very breif intro, Celiquete (or something) and another girl with blue straight hair. What a waste, they could havbe included more battles like in ep 3 where extensive use of CG is great. Still much better then the slow pace of the TV series.
If you're not a fan, stay away. If you seem to enjoy the TV series, this is somewhat better in some areas, but there is always a abrupt ending. What is this X-files?
Only Ohgami-san(the captain) seems to be in almost all Sakura Wars(Taisen)anime. There is a mention of Yoneda, but everything else is different. The introduction of the "devil-girl" in the team(the one with the specs) is a bit confusing, to hunt a member down and then join the force.
Overall must watch. I think, I'll stop here, too much review takes the joy of watching the anime.

Sakura Taisen 3 OAV. This just rocks the other Sakura Taisen animes. This is very loyal to the game. You kinda feel like you're playing it when you're watching. High quality graphics and sounds just leaves Sakura Taisen 1+2 far behind. PS: The bass is awesome.
