Unless you're desperate to know more about the Greed Island section of the TV series, this isn't a must watch OVA. It is quite fun though and hopefully the conclusion in the G.I. Final will make this OVA a little more palatable!

I am quite disappointed in this actually, because by the franchise’s standards, it is pretty mediocre in terms of story and character.

When compared to this original hxh series, this one is obviously less successful. First of all, anime style has changed drastically, from a detailed visual style, to a over simplistic style in this series. The sound was the best out of all categories. Most of the music suited the scenes quite well, with fighting scenes loaded with fast paced and appropriate sfx effects. In terms of story, the card trading idea was interesting. Card trading anime isn't original, but hxh adds a new dimension to it. New characters weren't developed as much in this series, but time was spent to develop old characters to much more depth. Overall, the series was quite enjoyable, although far from gripping as the original series.

Not very much gets accomplished in this series. As I said in my other reviews for Hunter X Hunter, you need to see the other parts in order to completely appreciate this anime. However, this segment is pretty interesting once viewed in terms of the entire anime. You'll also probably enjoy this series more if you enjoy video games, seeing as how this series takes place inside of one.

Personally, I think the new characters in this series are better than those of the earlier series probably because they are better drawn and perform better as well. So don't expect to see much of Leorio or Kurapica from the earlier series.

Anyway, if you're planning on watching this series, at LEAST watch the following OVA series because this way, the ending has much more closure to it.

This review is based on the complete series of Greed Island including the Final where they get sucked into the Nen-made video game.

First off this series begins with Gon and Killua pulling off the usual HxH-style planning of trying to achieve their goals (getting the game) in the face of huge organized conflict (trying to win the auction with no funds). Afterwards, they finally make it and we are introduced to a new cast of characters and the journey in the game starts.

The "Greed Island Saga" takes a slower more leisurely pace than what I became accustomed to within the main series.
Certainly a lot of training is going on, but I other than that, there isn't much drive in the story. There is no overarching impending doom that is going to happen if Gon and Killua do not do something, not a nice variety of villains, just an interesting scenario for the main characters of HxH. "Greed Island" is a side story that does not bring anything to the HxH series - although Gon and Killua may have learned a lot of techniques with the help of that girl, they don't do much with it until the very very end. Greed Island definitely takes the spirit of HxH, but mixes it in with boring side characters.

The idea of collecting cards is pretty fun although not entirely original, but the villains and other baddies are totally horrid. The Bomber guy, although is quite something in terms of strategy, if I think about it, I think there could have been a better 'villain'. The other main 'villain' was the volley ball guy, and I thought this conclusion to the Greed Island segment pales in comparsion to the regular HxH series. Nothing really beats the spider group saga.

Because Hunter x Hunter is mainly based on Killua and Gon's growth and the adventures they have to go through to achieve that training and power, Greed Island is quite dull (e.g. they don't really train much.. they seem to mostly train on rocks and stuff). Because I am a fan, I still enjoyed this series, but the action and overall atmosphere here is lacking in some sense.

This is the second OVA of the animation Hunter x Hunter, as you can guess, it follows the storyline of the previous OVA. This time the animation has left the hatred and pain and are now focusing directly on making a more exciting anime, meaning an anime that is almost like an RPG game, thrilling you to know what more skills and useful attacks the main characters will use. Its a good OVA no doubt, all though im a little disappointed about the dropping of the dark story, still its definitly worth seing and a good recomendation...

This one follows directly after the last OVA, but quite unlike OVA 1, this one puts the viewers in a much more cheerful atmosphere. The story revolves around Gon and Killua, fans of Kurapica and Leorio might be a little disappointed by this.

Greed Island is more about style than content. The animation had been improved from the previous HXH animes. But as a result, the anime didn't quite feel like the previous HXHs. The Sound was decent, I liked both and OP and ED songs. The voice acting was the same as always. As for the story, I didn't like the idea about being trapped in an online game, although it's a matter of personal opinion.

Although not as good as the other OVA IMO, this one is still worth watching. recommended for fans of HXH.

Now I will say this right now, just because I gave this all 10 does not mean it is without faults. The rating system is really screwed up since the ratings are on a very slim choice base.
I will repeat myself again: I love the HxH anime. With that said, welcome to my completely biased review ^_^

Animation
-----------
The animation definitly has a different feel to it than the TV series and 1st OVA did. It definitly is higher quality, but lacks the dark colors used to depict the darkness in the anime. Is this a bad thing? Heck no. Greed Island moves away from the OVA's dark feel and goes for a more light hearted feel. And for this, the animation fits in perfectly.

Sound
--------
The OP and ED are as good as ever. And the other music in it are also awesome since it uses some of the original music mixed with some new music to depict the new "gaming" feel.

Story
----------
With the main story with the Black Spiders done, Killua and Gon get to have some fun. Kurapica and Leorio become MIA after episode 2. Now we get back to finding Gon's dad. Oh and for those interested, there will be some *other* familiar faces that will make many appearances in the OVA.

Character
------------
Every character is back and vibrant as ever. Need I say more? Well...actually I do. Biscuit is not exactly a "likeable" character for many obvious reasons. I don't find her extremely annoying, but the only times I enjoy her being there is when she is taking verbal abuse by Killua, which is definitly a plus ;)

Overall, if you have seen the TV series and the 1st OVA, I dont see why you shouldn't see this 2nd OVA. True, its short and ends with a huge empty space in the story and plot but thats why everyone is waiting so diligently for GI final. If your a HxH fan, you can't miss this!!

With Kurapica's dispute with the Genei Ryodan somewhat resolved, Kurapica and Leorio move on with their lives and Gon and Killua begin their mission to find clues to find Gon's father. This leads us to a new story arc, the Greed Island story arc, which takes place in this OVA -- the second of three.

First thing I noticed was the "shiny new" digicel animation, which I actually didn't like as much as the traditional cel animation which previous HxH animation had. That aside, things were animated quite well, as expected from this series.

The second thing I noticed was how happy-go-lucky this seemed in comparison to Kurapica's dark and gritty doings with the Genei Ryodan. Things certainly weren't as deep or complicated in this OVA. Though that's not necessarily a bad thing, I just didn't find it quite as immensely enjoyable as I did the Genei Ryodan arc, though things were still very enjoyable.

This whole OVA was basically training for Gon and Killua for what I presume will be real action in G.I. Final which I will be watching next. The character introductions here were short and sweet. We have a group of players who want to end the violence in the game, while trying to complete the game in a non-violent manner. And we have a bunch of random "extreme hunters" looking to kill whoever they can just to lower the amount of players to their advantage. We also have a young looking girl who is actually quite old, who will be training Gon and Killua to prepare them for the higher levels in the game. And to my surprise a few members of the Ryodan entered the game for their own reasons. Kuroro and Hisoka are also up to something which was not revealed in this OVA.

In the sound department, it still had the canned sound effects. But unlike the previous HxH animation, the BGM in this was quite uninspired. Though the OP and ED were quite good.

Things are very different in this arc, but overall if you like HxH you'll like this. I can't wait to continue to with G.I. Final, which apparently will be the last Hunter X Hunter animation.

Togashi or whatever company in charge of Hunter x Hunter released this OVA even though Togashi himself still isn't done with the Greed Island arc because it's been way too long, resulting in a great decline of HXH fans. They had to make sure that HXH won't be totally forgotten. And this is what happens-my favorite anime series hanging in the air and IT'S KILLING THE HELL OUTTA ME. I wonder what's up with Togashi, how come he's not finishing this series yet. I'm afraid he might die even before he finishes this work of art. And I agree with the reviewer who said that there should just be a second season, to make all ends meet.

Let me get to the good points first--a great boost of improvement in the graphics department. Nicely drawn, better quality for our viewing pleasure. We get back on track with Gon and his original goal in the series after being distracted by Kurapica's run-in with the Genei Ryodan. New characters are introduced including Biscuit but some of the old ones are still in business although Leorio & Kurapica are shooed away since they already had their share of the spotlight. Hisoka is still very much alive, thanks be to Togashi. The music isn't bad and this OVA is more light-hearted than the first.
Now on to the bad. It didn't have the suspense and excitement I felt when I watched the series and the Genei Ryodan arc. And from chasing gangsters to collecting cards in a game takes some getting used to. It is so .Hack Sign and I didn't even like that anime (no offense to the fans of that series). It's kinda slow-paced and the 8-episode OVA gets cut-off before it even really begins. Thankfully, there's GI Final but I have yet to get my hands on that one. Still, if you're a hardcore HXH fanatic, Greed Island is a necessity, just to see our beloved characters pick up where they left off and damn man, why don't they just release a second full season? But I guess that would make us wait too long. I heard that the next arc after Greed Island is called 'Chimaera Ant' which still centers around Gon & Killua, with a new character called Knuckles. Or was I dreaming? Greed Island isn't as superb as the 1st arc but it doesn't tarnish HXH...It's just the pace and concept of the story-I'm just not with it. I expected a suspenseful arc pumping with adrenaline. I just got more questions than answers,so Togashi--you got a lot of explaining in the future epeisodes or arcs.

The REAL story (Gon was supposed to be looking for his father) finally continues now that Kurapica has settled the score. I must say I feel this OVA is long overdue, meaning it should have been part of the sixty-two episodes of the actual series and that….it’s a bit too late for this NOW. Anything after this point is probably just going to be overshadowed by the first OVA, and the first one should have just been the ending. (In a nutshell, the first OVA should have been the last thing we see.) But oh well, not everyone has my common sense.

However, at the same time I am grateful that Gon and Killua are finally back in the spotlight….it just should have been done before. The two being sucked into a RPG video game is a good premise, but the actual tension that’s present in both the TV series and first OVA is lacking….at least until the last two or three episodes.

Leorio and Kurapica have disappeared altogether. Killua’s still cool; Gon is still annoying, and I just KNOW I won’t like this Biscuit character. (Come on….BISCUIT?!??!)

All in all, if you have the need, like I do, to see if this series actually ends, watch this and pray it ends in the GI Final.

Edit: Just got through watching the eighth episode of GI Final, and what do you know? Biske's not annoying, after all. Raised character score a point.

After the dark Spider saga involving Kurapica's revenge, the series continues and becomes lighthearted fun as Gon and Killua finally start playing Greed Island. Basically the entire OVA series is learning the rules of the game which is similar to most RPG titles, the only thing is anime characters playing it in a more virtual world and serious danger which could result in death.

There is little character development as Gon and Killua are developed quite enough from the previous series. The challenge is interesting this time as well but it is pretty weird. Its like watching an ingame movie rather than an anime, the spiders too have become a mere sideplot.

This is enjoyable nevertheless, I liked the comedy and the clever style of the game. The OVA ends on a good note where the game is going to properly begin with a new character Biske who'll join the dynamic duo for more adventures.

Hunter X Hunter Green Island is just the continuation for the first OVA, and it narrates were it left out. This is basically how Gona and Killua manage to go into the game Green Island, and how they ended up being friends with a 57 year old bag, who looks like a little girl. However, the ending is a big continuation so you better get the rest of the Green Island before watching this OVA or you would be like me complaining about it and trying to get the rest of the OVA.

The character development is alright, they introduce a new character, who is this 57 year old lady. They also try to focus in developing some of the spider members more to help explain about the game “green island.

The graphics are the same as the first OVA, which is nicely drawn. Also I would be interested to buy a game like green island if they had it in a PS2 game. =)

Hmmm.. this OVA doesn't have the greatness that empowered the 1st OVA and the TV series, mainly its because of the new setting.

Gon and Killua are inside the Greed Island game, in this game they have to collect 100 special cards in order to complete it. Now, if you're an rpg nut like me you will find some of the character's encounters hilarious, but if you hate all those 'collecting' animes (e.g. Pokemon, YGO, Beyblade etc) you probably semi-hate this anime. The basis of the game is to collect the cards but for heaven's sake the OVA doen't concentrate at that at all. Instead it introduces some new characters and also provides Gon and Killua some training, it becomes somewhat more different than those generic 'collecting' animes.

Animation-wise, you can easily see that the animation is top-notch. No complaints about it.

Overall, this is a good OVA somewhat may cause some fans to be disgusted with its new 'card-collecting' game but suprisingly a good OVA but not as good as the first OVA, Watch and enjoy i suppose.

Overall: 7/10
Grade: B-

Animation is a big improvement this time around. But the problem is that the first 4 or so episodes didn't really have much to give to the viewer, because of the slow pace. But then after that, we begin to finally see them enter the game, and continue the story. But when you begin to get into it, BAM, it's over. You're sitting there like "WTF?" It's like driving full speed, then crashing into a brick wall (cliche?)
But with the addition with the next OVA, HxH GI Final, hopefully we will finally see the end of Greed Island, but not the end of Hunter X Hunter altogether (the Manga has more to the story). Hopefully GI Final will wrap up some questions left unanswered.
Overall, check this one out. Then watch GI Final (or if you're impatient like me, go read the manga, maybe do BOTH!!)

Hmmm.... what happens here??? why does this have to be this way? why does there have to be virtually 4 episodes with NO CHARACTER development? I didnt personally like these 8 episodes as much as ANY other part of the series up to them, but dont worry, if the first 4 episodes from the NEXT ovas that i've seen are any indication, this bruse will fade away shortly.

Wow is the hunter x hunter serie's story moving slowly. If I was older I might be afraid I'd die of old age before the story comes to anything even resembling a conclusion. Greed island is probably the worse ofender yet for this series as the only thing the last episode of this season marks is the beginning of a new extended wait before the next ova series. Despite this rather annoying fact, the series is still quite interesting and its the fact that the series is so good that makes it so frustrating that they refuse to either bring closure to the series, or finally give in and release a new FULL season.

The animation improved alot in Greed island. Most of the episodes are just introduction of the greed island but its still fun to watch. Gon and Killua meets a new mentor to train them. The end is another cliffhanger. But the Hunter x hunter GI final is great! There's no flashbacks the story just go straight to the point. No 10 episode thing that stuck at the same event just nice action and story in GI final. All my favorite character from HxH are in it. Dont miss it!
