As mentioned before with the release of the legendary anime Doraemon and Cutey Honey it set the trends and standards many manga artists follow to this day. Cutey Honey more than anything set the fashion standard and also was the building block for the ecchi genre. I still am amazed how far ahead of it's time this anime was. This is special to me for many more reasons than that.

Creative show that doesn't show it's age even though it's over 30 years old, some of the most poorly drawn 1 dimensional bad guys that added to the humor for me. The best villian is black claw, if there is show that most will remember as having contribute to the echi craze that would be Honey Flash. A heroine that shows her goods.

This show is a hard one to judge because it's over 30 years old. While in 2004, the paper-thin plot is loaded with cliches and the dialogue is incredibly silly, in 1973 all of that was overlooked for one thing - the fanservice. While this show is rather tame by today's standards (especially compared to the current OAV), in it's day it caused a riot.

So what is there left for 2004? A nice little time capsule in the development of anime. While there are other classic anime that hold greater value than Cutey Honey, this is one you can start watching and enjoy on a rather basic level (and if you're a guy, you'll appreciate the nudity and pantsu). There's plenty of action, bright colors, wild character designs, campy plotlines...enough to keep you entertained certainly. The only true downside even in it's time was the rather lackluster soundtrack. While the theme song is the stuff of legends (no Honey incarnation has been without it), the actual score is generally dull and lifeless, no matter how active the animation is.

Cutey Honey has certainly lost much of it's edge due to the passage of time. But it's certainly a series any anime fan should watch, since it continues to influence modern anime today (where would magical girls shows be without this one?)
