Saint Seiya is back!
And it looks better than ever. There is a catch though... in order to really enjoy this series one needs to be familiar with all the characters in the story. For example, chapter 9 was truly beautiful, very well executed and looking in retrospective it almost brought tears to my eyes, something I have never come close while watching other SS sagas... but it's only gonna work if at least one cares about Shakka and is sympathetic towards what he's trying to do; to convey those feelings in 20 mins is quite difficult, but it works wonders for those people that have watched the sanctuary + aagard sagas.
Anyway, this was a joy to watch and highly recommended to those who have watched the previous sagas.
Final Score: 7.5/10 add 1.5 if you are a harcore SS fan.

DK

It was worth to wait so long, this series is completely faithful to the spirit of the previous sagas, and gives us the enormous enjoyment of developing the true skills of the golden warriors. As a matter of fact in terms of plot the story is deeper than in any prevoius saga, and it's got several twists that you only get to understand in the last chapters. If you only have the money to buy one DVD go for the chapter 9, in my humble opinion, the most sublime, touching and deep piece of art that this series has produced so far.
Saint seiya taught many of us to watch anime, it's got flaws, that's right, and generally speaking the enemies are not developed properly(except by Radamantis in this case), but if you accept the basic premises, watching the bronze warriors back after 10 or so years is literally like a children dream which made true. I hope the second part of the saga comes soon, i don't want to wait other 10 years!!

Awesome!!! This is the best part of Saint Seiya and the one that I was looking for all the time I watched the anime. One of the reason that makes it so cool is the fact that the story changes completely and there's no more the same thing of running thru houses defeating enemies to save Saori, now the bad guys are making their way to Athena and when they get there everything changes. So cool!!! I just can't wait to see the whole story in anime.

This anime was truly spectacular. The version I saw was a bootleg I think and the subtitle job was not the best:( Even with that though, the voice talents and the sound expressed enough raw emotion to ensure that the audience did not miss anything in translation. The animation is again ground breaking as the 2D characters blend in more successfully with the 3D background than series like Hack Sign and Sailor Moon do by just sticking to the 2D. The story is really something else in this series. It is not as repetitive as the preceeding series and all the characters have so much depth and some also have great agender. It is truly a series that makes you look below the surface. I am giving this series an 8 for value as it hasn't been completed yet and some things are still left in the air. If you can get yourself a copy though, I strongly recommend it.

I am a big fan of Saint Sieya since 1983. So, the release of Hades chapter is somewhat necessary. However the anime is totally created by a freak computer graphic. The voice are good, only the stupid music that piss me off. The anime are full of gay character that being killed or torture by another gay. For example Mu torture Papiyon and Aphrodite. Well I rate both Mu and Shaka as gays due to their behavior and hair style.

It brings back so many good memories.
The characters, the music and many other things are back fro the original Saint Seiya.
But to be honnest, I m not into these cheasy dialogue (we fight for justice bla bla bla) anymore.

I was hoping for a conclusion at ep 13 but I guess we should some more.

Nice to see them back but it's not all that good.
Fan of the series will defenitely appreciate though.

Almost 20 years later Saint Seiya returns and better than ever. Better animation, better score in the best chapter of all, the Hades chapter. Something this good had to happen someday...I just can't believe it took this long.

After all these yrs... finally they made more of this. (This is one of the very first anime I had watched when I was a little kid.) good ol days.... =)

Its good overall, the looks and stuff has been improved, but not as much if you ask me. The story telling is as I remebered and didn't improve much. (Still talks 4 ever before any blow comes in! Not that its bad, it gives background, but really now, this is too much!)

The last eps leads to an dead end w/o an ending, I been told that they will made more to trap it up so lets hope its gonna be good. =)

One of the best anime ever.

For stupid people reviewing and saying stuff like "no end" OBVIOUSLY BECAUSE IT IS NOT FINISHED ...MORE TO COME!

It's the continuation of the 114 preceding episodes, ending the adaptation of the original japanese comic.

The story is great, but if you dont know what's before, you wont understand a lot, so you may think about watching the 114 episodes beforer watching this (ok it's long, you can read the comic too, takes far less time, but dont read the HADES part)

And please AnimeNFO get rid of that "13 episodes" and put a question mark instead !! We dont know how many OAV we'll have. Probably arount 39 though, but that's an educated guess. (13 more episodes for the Meikai and 13 more for Elysion)

Saint Seiya is arguably one of the most classic Shounen anime around. The 13 episodes OVA deals with the Hades
chpaters, and it is not meant for people who are not already familiar with the characters in Saint Seiya.

Having said that, Fans of Saint Seiya will not want to miss the Hades chapters. However, those who are new to the series probably dont want to start watching from here as they won't understand many of references in the story.

Animation - 8/10
It was very nicely animated, good to watch all the Saints restored to their glory. I actually prefer the CG effects added to give this dated anime some make-over.

However when compared to other recent animes, the art work is nevertheless not top notch.

Sound - 9/10

Very good soundtrack, but many of the tracks are from the OST VI in the Asgard chapter. In comparison, the Hades OST is not as good as OST IV or OST VI.

Story - 6/10

One of the problems with the Saint Seiya series is that the story gets quite repetitive afterawhile. Fortunately, at the beginning of the Hades chapter focused more on the Gold Saints, which is refreshing to the series. However, soon after the focus of the Hades chapter shifted back to Seiya & the bronze saints, and the same repetitive story is repeated once again...

I'd say that the Hades chapter ranks behind the Sanctuary and the Asgard chapters, although it has its brilliance in the 1st 13 episodes, things start to falter after. The plot only works partially though as there are a few things that doesn't really quite make sense (even to me who knows the detail left out from the manga).

Character - 6/10

Main character Seiya and his companion bronze Saints are fairly one-dimensional. Even for a Shounen anime, they don't really change much. Then again keep in mind this anime came out around (even preceded if I remember correctly) the time the original Dragon Ball came out. Finally, there are some much deserved emphasis on the Gold Saints this time around. One gets to see a lot more of Saga and Shaka, IMO two of the most interesting characters in the entire Saint Seiya series actually got some air-time. Again the lack of female role character will always haunt this series.

Value - 6/10

Its nostalgic value lies mainly with the fans with grew up watching it as a kid, otherwise for the new fans there are a lot of better animes out there. Even within Shonen

Enjoyment - 8/10

I really enjoyed watching it, but then again I've been a fan of Saint Seiya since I was a kid so it'll be biased.

I dont think I can view this anime in the same way had I not watched the original series as a kid.

These few episodes were so great. Strangely enough it lived up to the expectations I had, remembering how good the older Saint Seiya episodes were back in my childhood.

The graphics and sound are nice, but what I liked most is the story and the characters. The story is really amazing but it seems like it's just the beginning of a much bigger saga. So I'm looking forward to future Saint Seiya episodes.

I also liked the fact they put in the old opening song, I love it.

Of course the animation is very good as it is recent. But what amazed me the most was the music: it's beautiful and moving. It's a pity that I don't know if the rest of Hades chapter will ever be released.
Anyone who has seen Saint Seiya in one's childhood should watch this anime. But the problem is that seeing it will make you remember how the beginning of Saint Seiya was repeatitive and incoherent.

The Hades Chapter is my "Love and Hate" Anime.
In the beginning I thinked that Saint Seiya ends with Poseidon, an ending not too good for my taste. The fact that Saint Seiya lacks of an epilogue frustrates me: What happens with his sister? Why the golden saints never fight along side with the bronze saints? Why they (Bronze Saints) never upgrade to a Silver or/and Gold Saint? Seiya finally fell in love with Shaina or with Saori?...???? This questions (I think it was) never will got an answers...but there is one: HADES!!!

To my surprise, is the same s***!!
Masami Kurumada (the mind behind Saint Seiya) is a man with great imagination, but is not a writer and not so-good artist. If you ever come to see any of his manga books (Saint Seiya for example) you will notice the lack of artwork and drawings, all that you see is either close-ups or full-body shots, you get bored of that mediocrity.

The Hades Chapter Anime is a good adaptation from the Manga. But the story is much alike Asgard and Poseidon but longer and a little bit more or less entertaining... a little bit.

To sum up, This review shows my overall disappoinment in Saint Seiya due of it "Ending" that never please me... thanks Masamami Kurumada!

the best anime ever.I'm not a big fan of anime but this one really moved me though if you wanna enjoy it you must see the old tv series first. This hades chapter was made for the die hard fans of saint seiya who waited for more than 10 years to see hades into the anime.

If you haven't seen saint seiya buy first the tv chapters and then watch the hades chapter. I'm sure you will enjoy it. The story is excellent, the animation is really good and the music is one the best background music ever

This IS a great anime. It may not click with the "Love Hina" and "Noir" (blech :P) generation, but it certainly is a great series, and goes much deeper than what it may seem at first. It's not only "for the fans", although the reason it has many fans is the high quality, great characters, music and story. Give it a try if you want a SERIOUS dark epic series, with a cool story, action and characters. Steer clear if you're only looking for mindless dumb comedy and fanservice.

Can still recall the great excitement I felt when 7 mths ago I first heard the Hades Chpt is being made into anime... then 6 mths of constant count down the next eps followed.... and everything proved to be well worth the wait.

Yes 10 long yrs passed b4 they finally put out the Hades Chapter but in a way this was actually good... The graphics is superb. Many of the effects would have been too diffult if not impossible to do b4.

Been watching the 13 eps over and over again... Keeping my fingers crossed they would continue the rest of the Hades chapter...

Well the new Saint Seiya series is my favorite anime at the current time, so what can I say!? I can only give it the full rating and I guess it's really deserves the full credits, I know some of you might not like the new series that's maybe because he don't know the story and what happened before, but if you watch it chapter after chapter I am sure you will like it so much, as I said before Saint Seiya is perfect almost at everything, for the story, I don't think I can find a better story than Saint Seiya's great and big story or maybe it's only me I also like stories which are originally legends... As for the characters, Saint Seiya features many cool characters, there are many of them just like Saga, Radamanthus, Ikki, Mu, Milo, Shakka, Camus, Shura...etc where can I find these great characters in other animes, I know that every anime have at least one cool characters but Saint Seiya have not only one or two or three, they have many of them and more than 20 cool characters of course it's a personal opinion so don't blame me for saying these words... As for the animation, I can't say anything but the animation and the graphics are very cool and well done especially when they show fighting scenes and fast movements scenes, as for the musics, we all know how it's great and there is no need to say anything more, if you like sad and old style musics then this will be your choice I guess... The anime also have a very cool style for their fighting scenes, characters...etc along with cool voice actors...etc but the only bad thing is that they calls some of the characters gods and that makes me sick... But as I said before we don't care about what they say because this will never affect on someone who believes in his religion, right guys!? anyway if you are stuck on what to buy!? Saint Seiya The Hades chapter or Dragon Ball Z, Yu Yu Hakusho, Inyusha, Flame Of Rekka...etc I suggest you to take Saint Seiya The Hades Chapter, because as I said Saint Seiya The Hades is very good at everything and even the fighting, true the fighting is not much like DBZ and that's good thing I guess, but if this is your first time to see Saint Seiya then I don't suggest you I then suggest you to rent it first, so don't blame then, ok!? Also I would like to remind you that's only a personal opinion, as we all know everybody has his own opinion so don't kill me because I said it's better than Dragon Ball Z and the others... I have nothing else to say but Guys you have to watch this great series and I am sure you will like and you wont lose anything by watching it

I watched episode 4 because it just so happened to be available and i got hooked immediately. THe graphics are great, and the skills each saint has are just too cool. i even bought all previous 114 episode just to catch up on the story. True, there are serious flaws in the story, but still, this is a CLASSIC. yeah, and stop comparing saint seiya to other fighting animes, cuz saint seiya's like the ancestor to all the others (almost).

I can't believe some of the reviews I read here. This is not similar to Dragon Ball Z, this is not dumb, there hasn't been much focus to fighting at all, and this certainly isn't near one of the worst ovas ever (actually, it's the total opposite). The story may not be perfect, but it's very charming, and has great twists and writing. What Shaka said at the Twin Sal was so true, and so beautiful. What happened in ova 11 was just unexpected, and very sad and well presented. The characters are great. The animation and designs are beautiful. The music is gorgeous. One of the best anime ever, two thumbs up for this.
