Gravion is not one of the best Mecha and Science-Fiction animes out there. Yes Gravion is the main mecha here that protects Earth. It is the ONLY mecha that is capable of saving Earth. They fight these other machines called Zerabaia that tries to destroy Earth. There are two things that annoy me from this anime.
1. Each time the parts of Gravion combine to transform Gravion. Why i say this annoys me, because they have a really really bad song they play during the transformation.
2. The characters are all dunces. They all look up to 2 people. Sandman and Touga. There are two other guys and the rest are all girls. I'm not saying this is bad, but the character personalities is a little bit off.

Okay for voice acting i really can't say much because i watched it dub. Which was horrible YUCK! So I really can't say anything about it. They made Touga into a girl voice what the heck...

I didn't enjoy the beginning of the series until it got to the last 3 episodes. This is where it got interesting.

The strongest point of this anime is most likely the story. Now why do i say the story. Well you could say this kind of resembles Neon Genesis Evangelion. Just about the invasion. Well you got the Zerebaia. Their mostly like AI which gets smarter towards the end of the episode. Now the beginning was just bad. It didn't really just support or help develop the background. Now we got Eij, he's looking for his sister correct? Yes but then the story just goes somewhere else not going to the importance of his sister until later. However that barely answered anything. Well maybe I'll find out in season two if he finds his sister or not. Just a really not so well developed cliff hanger.

FELLOWS OF THE GRAN KNIGHTS, COMBINE! SUPER HEAVYWEIGHT SOMETHING! SUPER MAIDO HAREM! Catch my drift?

Gravion is yet another example of a series directed to a certain audience. The audience in question this time are people who like giant robots that combine to become even more giant robots and hero boys surrounded with a variety of pretty, scantily clad girls. Gravion sets out do this and does that quite well. This of course disturbs secondary elements like the story or character development but let's not care much about that.

The story starts when our hero, Eiji, infiltrates the castle of an enigmatic noble searching for his sister (he looks like a killer in drag!). Surprisingly the evil presence from outer space decides to attack at the same time and our hero boy suddenly finds himself piloting a fighter with other pilots piloting a similar fighter, a tank and a mecha. They can't defeat the enemy, so surprisingly they combine to make Super Heavyweight God Gravion! Then they resume kicking the enemy's butt. The following episodes follow a similar pattern always introducing a new special attack with a new, stronger enemy. These enemies aren't anything but things coming from outer space to destroy humans, so no moral dilemmas will hinder the giant robo fights.

The characters aren't much more interesting. Our main hero is the regular spunky kid who thinks little and acts more. And of course has an inner talent for piloting. Surrounding are mainly few different ladies forming a traditional harem: wicked big sister character, energetic neighbour girl, crybaby with glasses, silent girl and some younger and older maids serving him. Their development is quite minimal during the series and it really boggled me why on earth someone who is afraid anything bigger than a fly and starts to cry constantly was ever let in a tank. Maybe it was because the leader of bunch is the enigmatic nobleman Sandman, who has his own ideas how to save Earth. One of the more positive things was the pilot of the mecha, Touga, as he and Eiji quickly became friends despite their totally different personalities. He was grown in a sheltered surroundings to only think about fighting and defeating enemies. His simple-minded and ruthless yet gentle nature conflicting with main heroes passionate feelings were the most interesting thing to follow next to the endless robot fights.

The animation quality in Gravion fluxuates a great deal. Figths look good made with skillful 3D animation. That seems to have emptied the budget because traditional 2D animation is sometimes appalling. At least the mecha design is in order with vibrant colors and menacing enemies. Characters look kind of bland but their outfits leave so little to imagination that who's really looking at their faces? Music fits very well the heroic mood of a classic super robo series with good performers for the opening, ending and insert songs. Background music follows suit.

There's a lot in Gravion that reminded me of Godannar, the other modern super robo parody/show that I've seen. There's only one crucial difference, the passion. There's nothing in Gravions characters that would make me care of them. Where Godannar's characters where spewing their neverending love, pain and passion in every scene, Gravion just goes through everything with parody leaving the characters bland. It's still fun show to watch with it's over-shooting parody and fanservice but it never did catch my attention properly.

As a final remark, there is a second season to this, Gravion Zwei. That season will bring the passion into this show and some spectacular plot twists (involving even stronger giant robos!).

I recall coming across Gravion on TV, and the bright colors and vibrant character design immediately captivated me. The animation in Gravion did not fail to impress me, because though like most mecha shows it has its repetitive moments (like when the Gravion robot merges), I thought that most scenes were animated and colorful to a degree that actually made them worth watching THAT many times!

I liked the opening theme, but the ending wasn't as captivating. The OP has a strong beat starting with the striking lyric "guilty!"
I can't forget that anymore!

Story-wise, Gravion is rather poor. The same kind of stuff happens every single episode, whereupon the evil guy appears and the robot Gravion, piloted by six protagonists, appears to destroy the baddies. Oh, not strong enough. Time to merge!
That happens every single episode without fail, and while that may get boring, you'll be happy to know that Gravion Zwei has a MUCH better storyline!
(It is reassuring to know that the repetitiveness of Gravion the anime will only last for 13 episodes at max!)

The enjoyment of Gravion goes down because of how repetitive it is, but even if it does not appeal to you, it is still worth trying Gravion Zwei, which is directly linked with the first Gravion as an even more engaging and even more colorful sequel, imbued with more dark elements and a twist of this happy Gravion group of course.

When I think Gravion I can't help but think I'm 8 again and I'm watching Power Rangers which is essentially what this show is. Ofcourse, Power Rangers is derived from the other super powered giant robot shows that came before it. Just about every episode of the first season of Gravion essentially had the same formula as well. 6 (I said 5 before because Leele is so damned quiet I forgot about her) heroes selected to fight aliens bent on destroying Earth... Try to fight super alien without combining but to no avail... Combine to form God Gravion and blast the alien off the face of the Earth by yelling out corny attacks and everyone is happy. Every episode is essentially the same except with a different alien coming in each time to try and knock off our heroes. You come into each episode knowing full well what will eventually happen.

That said, what kept me from flushing this thing down the toilet was not the mecha, not Mizuki's implausible breasts which by the way were actually a turn off for me (seriously when you have breasts larger than your head, you got problems) but the music. The opening music and the theme music for when they combine to form Gravion kicks ass and I think I rewatched that sequence about 30 times straight in the first episode before continuing on. That's pretty much as good as it gets since as I said before every episode is essentially the same as the other. Atleast the character development was decent if not a bit cliched, and it had enough comedic moments to keep me from tossing it aside. I also laughed and shook my head on a number of occasions at the ridiculous plot development. It's just so corny you just can't help but laugh at it. If it wasn't for the somewhat good animation you could swear that this was a title from way back in the 70's or 80's. Fortunately the sequel Gravion Zwei is far superior by leaps and bounds. Atleast by comparison anyway...

This show is one of the few that enable You to time-travel. To the times were Transformers were a totally new and one cool-looking show, and mecha looked like Gekigangar from Nadesico or... Gravion from Gravion nowadays. And to the times where it was `oozing` coolness - it had written `great` all over, etc.
So if You enjoyed those old shows, You might enjoy this one. I disliked those shows. And I dislike this one, which is of no surprise.

So what do we have here?

We have a show, were Earth is fighting off alien invasion (typical for early mecha) and only hope lies in mecha (typical for ANY mecha).
Of course only one mecha is built, and our main hero gets to be... ONE of the pilots. That surprised You didn`t it? It sure did me. I expected he will be THE pilot, not one of the bunch.
In addition this mecha is painted so awfully it hurts to watch: pink, blue, red, yellow, violet - rainbow at least has STYLE in mixing those, Gravion (the robot) was denied ANY style whatsoever, which unfortunately is also typical for early mecha.

And finally, we have a show which considers any opportunity, where You were NOT shown superb transformation, a WASTED opportunity.

So You will have to suffer through obligatory minute of wasted drawings in every (but one) episode.
Not to mention toxic waste in the shape of `cool` audio track for transformation sequence - which also is mandatory and cannot change for better.

I must say, while Gravion IS crap, if seen now, it`s a crap You may get used to. I was.

It had hillarious moments, and my laughs were sincere in it, even when cliches were appearing constantly on top of each other.

I sometimes here a lot of negative about this anime and mostly on the story, however I do agree but I also think it has a pretty nice story compare to some other anime. The characters of this story are really believable and lively. I especially think Eiji and Luna when fighing are really funny and cute. The good thing about this anime is that althoug it seem like each episode, the characters found some monster and fight it to save the world but in fact that each monster has some way that in connected to the story and what the characters learn. Not only that buy the enemy really make you wonder who created them and why are they evolving only to destroy the Gravion. The interaction between the characters are great too, not just between the main characters but all the characters. Overall it is a funny exiting anime to watch.

I can kinda see some ove the negative reviews on this anime but the ones that don't make sense is saying that vltron was better. Voltron was stale, because Voltron was monster/villian of the week. And it would always end with blazing sword. Gravion at least gives more than jsut blazing sword and done. I like the fact that they added more of a mystery to it. The fact that Mr.Sandman knew what was coming, the fact that Eiji's sister is missing and technically he is the one they needed to pilot the left leg of Gravion. I don't think it is so much monster of the week, because they know who the enemy is, its jsut that with every fight they send a more modified version of itself. Its not like power rangers where they pcik some monster that just happens to be related to a situation in the heroes lives and they learn a life lesson. I like the conflict between each member, I like the fact that the second season will probably help round things off more. Gravion is what power rangers should have been but better. So it's a great a giant robo anime, funny to watch, exciting, great weapons, and just great animation.

Err.. I haven't see the second season but I guess pretty much how it gonna end.

I say if you a fan of "Robot tranformation" or docking stuff you might like it, becuase all they do(atleast 2 min. per ep.) was sing a song and docking each other.

Here the story. You are the one and only who can save the world. The enemy(Zerabaia) keep attacking you and they're getting stronger by memorize and develop themself to defend every possible Gravion's attack moves. You fight and you might untill you got nothing left to fight then you depen on some kind of new attack to happen or invent, that's how you won the battle.

The character didn't develop too much since they have 2nd season waiting for them. I for one watching these stupid robot-moves just to find out what happen to Ayuki(Eiji's sister) and only for that I somehow mangae to finish off season 1. Although I'm really against the robot transformation anime, I enjoy some of the jokes that made also I always like the little romance in the group.

The odd thing about how good Gravion is doesn't rely on what the show has, but on actually what it DOESN'T. There's no CG added to look "cool", no contrived romance, almost no fan service, almost no angst, and the male lead isn't a spineless loser forced to join up with the rest of the organization he works at. Eiji is a fine example of breaking the stereotypes that all these post-Evangelion series have to have moody males for leads; he joined up to find his sister (who went missing a while ago), not because he had to. He has FRIENDS. He tries to look at the bright side of things. And he tries to befriend another pilot, Touga, and show him what the real worls is like, and not just of that in a cockpit. Oh, and despite being the main character, he's not the one who pilots the main body of Gravion, which I find to be kinda neat.

Gravion is a neat homage to mecha anime, and while the series can feel a little hokey sometimes (Kogeyama Hironubo does yet another shounen action energy song, not surpisingly), and the recycling of footage of Gravion over and over again gets annoying quickly, this is one of the better GONZO series to come out in a while, along with Kaleido Star. I hope when season two comes out this spring, it will be just as good.

I liked the first few episodes, and I liked the last 6, so I guess this series was enjoyable for me in general. I still was hoping for a very serious series since they introduced it in certain episodes. Im sure they will show it the second series. I had fun with it, but I still could have been better. The fighting scenes were half good and half bad because of the repetitiveness of it. I look forward to seeing the second series and finishing the story off. I hope it will be better than the first series.

When, i first came accross Gravion i was very suprised, but not against watching it, as i watched each episode it seemed like the story was basically the same, "zerabaya attacks".. the 6 Gravion Pilots save the day, in some way or form, not that its a bad thing but it can get repeatative, the story is slow at first, it seems to focus too much on fanservice at the start which i didnt like >_> as the maids giving "Eiji" his physical.. what relivance does that have ?

after the first couple of episodes i found Gravion enjoying, with some cute words that made me laugh like on the beach episode, and the music is some of the best ive ever heard

i really found Gravion to be enjoying, and very much watchable, its a shame about the slow story but its ok

I read a lot of bad reviews about this but I still wanted to go out and get it myself. Once returning home and watching all 5 episodes on disk one I was not disappointed. This is actually a pretty good anime. Yes the story has been done before a houndred times but I still get a kick out of it.(And im a huge Mecha fan) Believe me you should atleast check out the first DVD. Dont expect Evangelion here just buy it looking for some good entertainment and fun story with great animation. You will not be disapointed.

First of all, this anime is another super robo series. Despite the fact that their posing and transforming part was gay i enjoyed this alot. I liked the character design and the animation was great. The main weakpoint is that it is ver unorginal, one monster comes out every episode and the good guys learn a stronger move with evert monster they encounter. Very similiar to those old jap robbo animes( Getter, Majinga, Voltes V, etc)

I guess compared to most other anime this one would be pretty bad, but it has one thing going for it that most other anime series do not, a sense of nostalgia. This is a typical super robot show with 80's music and a monster of the week plot. This is the stuff you used to watch as a kid and it brings back good memories. Characters are pretty stale, clich¨¦s run rampant, animnation is a little iffy for a Gonzo production, the plot is virtually non-existent, hell, it seems like the show got canceled rather then ended. The fan service was up there even by today's standards and the entire series was generally more predictable than flipping a two-headed coin. But you know what? Who cares, I loved it. Now that the second series has started airing, hopefully we can get some answer (Hey animenfo, where is it anyway?) but that still doesn't take away from how much I enjoyed this series. Definatly not for those uptight serious anime viewers who donÖÉ know how to turn their brain off and just enjoy something.

it's from studio GONZO, so it deserves some props for that alone... the animation is pretty consistant and typical of studio GONZO. the theme music and (especially) the transformation sequence music was overblown and unnecessary, but i would overlook it if it was a bit closer to voltron... hehe. voltron rocks your momma then sends her home with no pay, and since gravion is clearly a rip off of voltron, it's good enough to at least rock your sister's friend's momma and send her home with two fiddy.

I think you'll appreciate this anime a lot more if you're at least 20 and have been watching cartoons/anime a long time. This anime is a throwback to the days when there was a good guy, a bad guy, and you knew whose ass was going to get kicked at the end. And yes, we ARE going to show you the cool transformation to the giant merging robot every single time, accompanied by cool music. Depending on how you look at it, it's either a guilty pleasure, or a breath of fresh air in a time where everyone has to have complex overanalyzed emotions and you have to have sympathetic bad(and good) guys with dreary, tragic pasts. Even the mecha are just plain old school.

I'm also surprised at all the constant references to transformers in the reviews. Voltron is really more appropriate. And sadly, it is significantly more sophisticated than voltron. Anyway, yea, its pretty mindless, and has cliches running rampant, but its all good fun. The story really is pretty good, though in the initial season, seems to have barely gotten off the ground.

Best of all? They actually came up with an excuse to shout out silly special attacks. And if you find yourself enjoying this, consider watching Gatekeepers as well. Recalls older anime as well with a few of its own stylistic touches and some good stories told in the framework of what is admittedly a silly plot.

While bad, Gravion tends to be hilariously bad.

One of the few anime that I'm still watching. nice mech, nice character design (and funny behavior, and oh, Hayami Shou!! still can't get over his Knight Shoemach/Sugo Osamu role.. T-T nice to be able to hear his voice again..) and of course, superb music!! JAM Project + Nanase Hikaru = I'm buying the soundtrack!! :D Now if only they can make it a 26 eps anime.. T-T.. guess I'll go back to watch it over again..
