I really have no idea about how I feel about this show. Therefore this review might wind up ambiguous....you decide. See, I was never too crazy about Big O, even from back in the day when it was on C/N. Even after re-watching it again now I still feel the same way. There are too many things about it that I either found irksome or just failed to impress me altogether but there were parts that I did like about the show too. What I disliked: for one, I've never been too fond of Mecha anime shows especially of the giant robot variety because they always seem too quick to jump into them and try to solve everything in them then they end up fighting and smashing up things of course Big O is no different when it comes to this. But I did like the show for the mystery element as well as for the love-triangle.

I have just finished watching this anime, and I have to say that it was one of the best that I've ever seen.

Big O starts off with a very typical Giant Robot plot, then moves on and suddenly what starts off as a subplot in the first half of the series ends up being the major plot throughout the rest of the series.

I won't lie to you, there will be stuff you dont understand until the very end of the series, and if you're the kind of person who prefers their anime straight up without any secrets, like Ranma 1/2, then you probably wont like it. But if series which you constantly have to take in information to fully understand, such as Neon Genesis Evangelion is more your thing, then theres a good chance that you will like Big O.

Big O is rough. It started good but had lame characters and stupid big robot fights. Season two took a nosedive on an already shaky series. I liked Roger and Dorothy, hated everyone else. Story was all over the place. Worst ending I have ever seen. Seemed like instead of bothering to tie up loose ends, they just threw more threads into the story. Didn't make much sense but was a good try.

This is a grossly underrated anime. It has something for everyone—mystery, drama, comedy, intrigue, romance, big robots destroying the city! It’s something like a mix between BladeRunner, Godzilla and Lain. I’ve rated it so highly because there is magic at work, there is a lot to think about, a lot to feel and some really breathtaking scenes. The animation is really nice although it takes a slight dive during some scenes in season two. The dub is better than the Japanese version because of Steven Bloom as Roger Smith and the phenomenal voice acting done for Dorothy. The sound effects in this show are so incredible, standouts include the sound inside the giant robots and the Godzilla-like sound made when the mecha walk down the street. The song that plays during season one fights (and maybe some in season two) is really good and often gets stuck in my head. I also like the spooky mystery song a lot, some people I know like the intro; it’s all right. Don’t judge the music by the opening and ending themes, they are not for everyone. The strongest music is the rich orchestral arrangements and jazz numbers that play dung the show. The main story is strange and in many ways nonlinear, but it leaves a strong impression concerning reality, so if that’s an interest of yours then try to follow, if not, there are usually subplots during each episode which are less complex and more fun. The characters are so incredible—a mummified news writer, a goofy villain with a blond fro, a senile dude, his spoiled rich boy son, a skinny guy with a drill for one hand and a mouser in the other, Fujiko reborn, a cute android and a nerdy negotiator. Overall, this is really enjoyable on multiple levels—one of my all time favorites!

watched Big O for a while now...have to agree with some of the people out there, it DOES seem like a batman rip off, especially with the old geezer butler and all....the music was pretty good (the intro and ending music was..uh..not as great)only character i actually liked was Angel, Dorothy bugged the hell outta me, and it took me a while to get used to Roger's eyebrows...overall, its an ok show, they could have done better though :(
(and what was with the whole god thing on Big O's monitor?? must be religious or something....wierd, but ok i guess)

I watched this anime because my buddies love this anime. I found it very boring. Who can be be happy for a hero that tears up the city that they live in. He causes more harm then good. This anime is a huge rip off of batman and but the hero is weak. I personally found that this anime to be dull and highly unsatisfying. The only way if got though this is the fact that the animation was good and I like the opening song, very catchy. The story just didnt work together, there were too many holes. As you can tell I didn't like this anime.

I will say this much... The Show Must go on... =) And its a good show.

Overall the storyline of the story and the plot build up for the beginning to the end is actually pretty good. This anime series is more than just another mecha robot fighting anime, the whole mystry theme of the play and all questions that kept the viewers wondering whats the truth behind it all really does have its way keeping a viewer stay tuned.

The only part that disappoint me may I added VERY disappointing part of this anime is the "Weak-As-Hell Ending" when the anwsers of the world reveals, I guess I was expected more out of it, and maybe some explainations behind the images and stuff like that. It seemd like a cheap ending to a fairly good story, =( but again not many anime series these days has good ending so. =P

The Animation looks American ... well, maybe because the drawings was done by the company that makes Batman the animated series, so it really doesn't have the whole anime look to it but its still okay artworks.

All and all, this isn't a bad series and for all those ppl who are benting on this show with a 1 line sentence and / or only watch 1 or 2 eps and start talking trash about it should be posting reviews in the first place. =P

Big O is a pretty good series overall, with the background story presented being its primary strength. They drag it out a bit too much with no clear answers until the final episodes, rendering half the series almost totally pointless, but nonetheless the story/mystery keeps you watching to see what happens next. Character wise, Roger and the other heros are rather bland unfortunately, with mostly the villians standing out as "special"(Beck oriented episodes are always great to watch). Definitly worth watching at least once, and the dub is exceptionally well done as far as dubs go(equivalent to Cowboy Bebop).

The following review is based off the dub airing on CN. I have never seen the original Jap version.

Big O takes a different approach to the Mecha genre than most Gigantic Robot animes. Like most animes, the story arc is episodic and slowly builds toward the bigger picture. Around episode 13, the larger story arc rolls out. While Big O is different in presentation, it borrows from many other tried and true sci-fi works of fiction. The style of animation itself is very similar to that of the most recent Batman animated incarnation. I've taken to calling Roger Smith as Bruce Wayne with bad eye brows. While the anime is not exceptional in any department, it does provide for a fun watch. Roger's character is what totally drives this anime for me. His interaction with Dorthy and Butler is what keeps me coming back. My only big gripe with the series is the lackluster music. Between the opening and the ending, I don't know whats worse. The audio filler in between isn't much better.

On a side note, the english dub is tolerable. Better than the usual crap thats cooked up.
