I never was an action genre person, but anime caught my eye. I, on the msot part enjoyed GetBackers. Character design on the most part was diverse and interesting which contributed to an above average action genre. It does have less "action" than most action-based genre, however, actions are not just about the fight scenes, and plot devolopment should still be considered. GetBackers does a better job than most actions on that although, it isn't fully polished plot devolopment either.

This is a fun anime that will surprise many non-action viewers. Catchy. However, its 49 episodes and beware of the occasional "filler".

Getbackers is about two guys. One is named Ginji who was the leader of the most deadliest gang in hong kong called the Volts. He was called the Thunder Emperor because he could generate electricity from within his body. The other character is named Ban. He is able to make a person, who looks into his eyes, experience a dream (Gengutsu) for one minute. He cares a lot about money and both of their past remains a mystery during the first few episodes but you see flashbacks. However, they become close friends And you soon learn that they Had known each other as kids even. they form a group called the Getbackers. From the title, you should be able to tell what is it they do. They can take back any stolen object, of course for a fee. But they seem to have the worst luck doing with money and usually after they get something back, they end up penniless. This series is funny yet sad as well. They try to leave their past, but it comes back looking for them.

Get backers has lots of action and comedy. The fight scenes are alot like yu yu hakusho except for of the better graphics. Another good thing about this show is that the plot is Very original, Which you don’t find very often now in anime’s.I mean an anime about retreaving Valuable items lol. But the show isn’t all serious. There are lots of funny parts. Like the very very dark anti hero. Which i will not name LOLZ, From Rich to poor in seconds, From fighting over a hot girl. to Fighting with great power levels. But don’t get it mistaken. no one in this show is overpowered like dragonball z. Like i said its much like yu yu hakusho in action wise. It is overall a good show and if you have free time you should go check it out.

Getbackers is about two extremely powerful guys that run a recovery service with a 100% recovery rate to flaunt. Ginji Amano is able to wield lightning to his liking as well as absorb it, and Ban Midou can physically overpower you as well as hypnotize you for an entire minute with his jagan. The first couple episodes and the episodes that follow the first major arc deal with the wild adventures the getbackers go through in order to recover whatever stolen item their client has lost. The two major arcs run through its usual shounen course of infiltrating buildings and battling various foes with unique fighting abilities.

Getbackers is rather average. If you are a long time anime fan, most of the things you have seen here are not out of the usual. We have the silent assassin who likes killing people and barely has a raised voice in Jackal, the man who looks like a woman and even wears feminine dresses in Kazuki, the rival to Ban Midou in Shido, and you could probably guess what role the other characters fill in as well.

Despite this, the characters are rather memorable in a sense and their development is pretty fun to watch. Even though they are basically carbon copies of other characters in other anime universes, they all have their unique charm to them. One of the more important things this anime does is character execution, and I'm a strong advocator of how important character development is than story development (although having both really doesn't hurt).

What is pretty unique is while everyone has their own unique abilities, they all claim to have enrolled in a school that specializes in their fighting style. Kazuki is the threadmaster and is from the thread fighting school, while Jubei came from the flying needles school. It adds this sense of freshness to the world of Getbackers. The play on services here is pretty new as well. Along with a recovery service, there are other services, like a transporting service, protection service, that may get in the way of the getbackers in their mission. The fillers do a good job of displaying the unique side of Getbackers.

The key word in that last sentence was fillers. The fillers do establish what separates Getbackers from other shounen anime, but they are still what they are; fillers that no one likes. They are excessive and sometimes unoriginal. Surprisingly, there is a good ratio of good fillers that are very watchable, and others that are a bore to watch. You'll get a filler episode that is very original, fun, cute, and hilarious, and the next is the opposite of those things. In a sense the fillers cancel each other out.

The main arcs, which mainly deal with the mysterious city called The Limitless Fortress, are what you would expect, if you were expecting average. There really isn't any big twists, but the story is at least constructed decently. What detracts from the enjoyment is excessive Dragonball Z-esque talking and uninspirational lead antagonists. The main antagonist in an arc should look bad, strong, and undefeatable, not a computer geek. Thankfully the antagonist in the second arc is a huge improvement in this regard. Dissapointingly, like most shounen anime, many questions are left unanswered.

While average, Getbackers was still an enjoyable watch thanks to its unique blend of characters. The fillers are inconsistent in its quality, so you'll never know what you're getting out of them. At least the main arcs are the same; just a bit too average for the average shounen anime.

A typical shounen show without any redeeming qualities. No cool fights, no blood boiling action, no pompous show offs, no inspiring music, no vivid eye candy. Seriously, it makes me ponder why did I even watch this show. Well, probably because good shounen is rare and it seems I've used up all of it. Feels somewhat lonely, spending time trying to find something good in a pile of garbage like Get Backers. T_T

Nope, nothing good in here, look elsewhere.

I started buying this series on a whim, mostly because I thought the character designs were interesting and it was on sale (terrible reasons for buying a series, I know).

After watching the first season, I'm pretty underwhelmed. It started out pretty good, but the Limitless Fortress storyline went on far too long.

Lots of action and lots of characters to keep track of. There is an audience for this sort of thing.

This despite my liking of fantasy-based animes proved to be a decent anime which I to a degree enjoyed. It probably to many action fans a little light and laggy in plots at times. However, the characters are neatly devoloped.

This is one of that animes that catch you from the very beginning. It has a lot of action but i never got bored because there are some many parts funny too.
There were some things i didn´t like, for example the animation change a lot in each episode, so you will see sometimes the characters ugly and bad drawn but in most of the cases they are beautiful and it´s OK.
The other weak point about this anime is that is incomplete, when you finished watching all the episodes you realize that many things of the story are missing, but it´s just normal because this anime doesn´t cover even the half of the manga.
What a shame, i really wanted to see more of this series, i hope they make some OVAS or a second season someday.

after a little pondering, i finally decided on what to give this anime as a rating. a straight 9.0 and i'll explain why:

first lets talk about the story. very straightforward, amano ginji and midou ban, two retrieval agents with a supposed 100% rate. simple? at first i thought so, but it really wasn't

first off this anime had pretty decent animation. some parts were worse than others however, so i can't really give it higher than an 9. it wasn't really superb. the sound also wasn't very impressive. i ddin't like many of the openings. some of the endings were OK; some of the music was simply absurd...

now to the good part. despite the only OK animation and sound, this anime had an amazing story/characters. first off lets say this: some animes have that 'omg so cool' factor. the first couple episodes of black cat, or even hunterxhunter with the cool character killua. getbackers shines because it has a HANDFUL of these cool characters. we have Ban, Ginji, kazuki, shido, akabane, and a whole array of others. in addition, this anime isn't just soul-less butt-kicking like DBZ or something along those lines. each character has a secret past, emotional feelings, and internal struggles. and by the way did i mention midou ban? one of the coolest characters in anime HISTORY

the story surprised me as well. i coudln't believe some ppl reviewed the story as predictable and nothing special. the infinite castle arcs were amazingly complex and impressive. of course, i have to add, the manga is most likely 1000x better. but since i've never read the manga, the anime was impressive as ever. lets just say the story isn't as simple as it'd seem.

now for the reason why the anime isn't rated any higher than it is. i rated hunterxhunter a 9.3 and elfen lied a 9.5. the reasons why this anime falls short is mostly due to gut instinct. there wasn't a sense of 'finesse'. for one thing there was barely any blood, which is unbelievable and unconvincing, especially considering the manga's portrayal of Ban's "snake bite". also sometimes the story would drag. lets just say it didn't have the same finesse as hunterxhunter, or even suzumiya haruhi. like i said before, however, overall greatness of the anime makes up for these mistakes.

but in addition, admitedly, there is TONS of filler, a huge reason why i rated enjoyment lower than a 9. i'd say a good chunk of the anime is filler. this anime's main weakness is its sloppy execution. i didn't get the same clean feeling as hunterxhunter. but yet i DID rate this anime a 9.0, which i consider quite high. why did i do such a thing despite this anime's weaknesses?...

simply due to the characters and story. it was just way very much too COOL. i'll probably never forget this amazing story and cool premise (memorable), and though this anime isn't in my top 5 list, some of the characters in this anime make my official "coolest anime characters of all time" list. i think that as a main reason makes this anime totally worth it. a good way to blow off some time, you won't regret it

This is definitely one of the best animes I've seen. Its mixture of quality comedy and action makes this anime one of the best. There are parts where it can make the viewer feel the tension and seriousness, etc and there are parts which can leave them relaxed and laughing his/her head off. Overall, I personally enjoyed this anime to the max.

The animation isn't very different to lots of other anime, but the style fits this anime perfectly. It was drawn very well and little things (such as Ginji's "chibi" form) add to the hilarity. The characters themselves are drawn really well while they are all unique in how they look (they're not made to wear the same uniforms is what im trying to say)

The planning of the characters are perfectly thought out. Each main character is described well throughout the whole series, and each with their own unique personas, interact well with each other, creating all types of emotions. The characters play a great role in making this anime so awesome.

The story in this anime is sort of broken up into pieces. It mainly centres around one place with all the characters relating to it or something close to it, etc. But I must say, the ending left lots of untied strings. That was a let down, but the stories themselves were not that bad.

Not much to say about the sound except the songs were not bad. I personally liked ED 1 (Ichibyou no Refrain), ED 3 (Mr Deja Vu) and ED 4 (Changin') The video clips for the songs looked cool as well.

I cannot believe that there’re so many people given such low ratings for this anime. Of course, the story might not be interesting or expressing as you expected but it is definitely not the point to determine a wasting of time. Indeed, aim of the story is not to reach some amazing endings or results but to discover hidden mystery under the surface. The past and present evens are mixing together to explain and illustrate how thoughts and conflicts rising in each character, influencing on their reaction and personality. It seems like reality where everything is not a book to read, but a forest to seek for answers.
Again, the character is significant strength of this anime. They are distantly different from each other, from outside looks to skills and personality. However, despite those differences, all of them are so cool and stylish ^o^. Even though jobs can divide them to be partners or rivals, they are finally together as friends. It was remarkable that there’re no really good guys/ bad guys or good side/bad side like common sense of “fighting stories”.

I started this anime with a light heart and an open mind and truthfully it did really impress me in the beginning and esp in the middle with the whole Makubex issue. Then it started going with somewhat of some filler-eps for entertainment and before the grand finale of kinda solving the problem with the Mugenjyou (Babylon City and Lower Town). At the end of it all, I have to say that this anime did not really WOW-ed me as I had expected, because the ending was a bit abrupted and unexplained and left lots of open-ended questions.

As far as animation and sound goes, they were fairly tolerable, nothing extremely spectacular but I liked the OP and the ED. The background music impressed me more than the animation did, or maybe I just have an canny liking to the saxaphone.

The story, I'd said, is a bit lopsided in terms of Ban and Ginji, we spend almost 35+ eps on Ginji's history and his motivation and his old friends and then we barely get a glimpse of Ban's history, other than Yamato and Himiko, not much to his history. Otherwise, the storyline is fairly well-done and well-paced, with its buildups and climaxes and aftermath.

As for the characters, I love them as fighters more than anything, I loved the battle scenes that are long and drawn out and their special powers. (isnt it all so convinient? esp for the Kakeis, there's a Kakei school for needles for Jubbei and there's a Kakei school of scarves/headbands/robes for Sakura.) But in terms of character development, there isnt much because all you're getting is flashbacks to what happened to these characters to make them they way they are, throughout the whole series, really, they're static, they might have been dynamic before, but yah, you get my point. I also liked the complex relationships portrayed between each character, they made up the gist of the story.

As for value, there are definitely some eps that I want to keep (ie the hospital one and the Mugenjyou ones), but it's still very debatable for me, I'm not sure I can rewatch the whole series over and over again just for the heck of it, just parts of it I can.

Having said that, I thoroughly enjoyed this series, with all its flaws and open-endedness and comedy and fights and seriousness. I have laughed and (almost) cried and threw things in anger and frustration and then laughed some more. This is definitely worth your time if you've got it.

An addictive anime with a very interesting storyline, supernatural characters and futuristic element. Set somewhere in the near future, the story is about two best friends, Midou Ban and Amano Ginji who earn their living as retrieval agents; getting back what people have lost, boasting a 100% success rate service. Though this may be a difficult thing to do, the catch is they are not your exactly normal humans, which explains how even the most impossible retrieval job can be done.

The anime follows much of the manga plot for most of its episodes, exploring bits and pieces about the duo's history, explaining about the characters' supernatural powers, the conflicts, and fleetingly revealing people they encountered in the past, and how they made a comeback in current events. Although some characters were slashed from the anime to make room for brevity, nevertheless it shouldn't be a huge bother to those who did not read the manga. It is still good.

The main focus of the story is supposedly to be on Infinite Castle, or Mugenjyou, where each and everyone of the characters seemed to be connected with it, although this does not mean all of them have to come from there. The anime did reveal parts of the connections, but not all.

This may be due to considering the fact that the manga was still ongoing at the time of running the anime, it cannot be avoided that the anime has had to end some place. While the manga was still in the process of exposing each and every one of the character's personality and past, the anime did not have the ability to slow down and follow the pace of the manga. This is the reason why the anime ended without going into the characters' detailed histories, how they're connected with Mugenjyou, and how they acquired their supernatural powers. Which is a pity, because they are actually very interesting. The anime eventually ended with some fillers in between, probably less than five, good enough not to have watchers getting agitated over it for not progressing in the story.

Although 49 episodes is a bit on the short side still for a very much lengthy manga (30 volumes and still ongoing in Japan), nevertheless this is a very enjoyable anime with very likeable main characters, hypnotic storyline, adorable and hilarious humour, plus some great opening and ending themes. Personal favourites would include: Ichibyou no Refrain (Refrain for One Second - Ending no.1), Yuragu kotonai ai (Unshakable Love - Opening no.1), Namida no Hurricane (Hurricane Tears - Ending no.2), Mr.Deja Vu (Ending no.3) There are also commended themes, such as Barairo no Sekai (Rose-coloured World - Opening no.2) plus also the highly adorable Changin' (Ending no.4)

This is sadly my first bad review; but I guess it could not be helped and was bound to happen eventually. OH well here goes:

GetBackers; basically a story about 2 guys getting back various items which were either lost or stolen, this premise in and of itself is quite original. However the genius of this piece ends there. Apart from the Magubex storyline this series has little value. [OK maybe the Hospital episode was funny...kinda]

I personally loved this anime. the animations were good and the two main characters Midou Ban and Amano Ginji are definitely the best duo around. Ginji is especially cute when he goes into chibi mode!! ^^ Ban is hilarious when he complains about his money problems and when he fights with his 'evil eye' how cool would it be to have dat power??? Some of the plot was missed out for example explaining about Ban's background and about The Last Children (??) but all in all still one of my top 5 anime series.

Definitely recommended.

Seeing that so many people include summaries in their overall reviews I guess I'll just give my general opinion of the anime. I loved this anime. It never had me bored at a single moment and I was always excited to see the next episode. I was hoping the end would have more development maybe, but I have a feeling that if I read the manga (which i haven't yet) that maybe I'll get more out of the story from there. Overall, I loved this series and would definitely recommend people watch it.

Getbackers is an anime that features fluid animations and an intricate storyline, but the most important aspect of this masterpiece is its ability to mix poigniant moments, action packed fights, and various comedic elements into one complete package. The show starts off with a young lady, Natsumi, going to the Getbackers recovery group. Recovery groups that get back anything that is stolen(which is the case most of the times), or lost. Through their adventures, the audience learns of the Getbackers past which features tense, emotional moments but it is always counteracted by constant comical elements. Ginji in particular provides many hilarious moments, especially with Kurodo Akabane, a rival Transporter(transports an object from one place to another). Overall, Getbackers is a supremely enjoyable anime with hardly any weaknesses(the few dealing with voice acting and the actual dialouge.)

Basically 2 broke losers with super natural powers living their lives getting back stuff with a 100% sucess rate. I like the plot. But, it kind of seems like it gets repitivie. Honestly, I think the Get Backesr should have ended at episode 25 where it seems like it's all over, but oh well. The fights? Meh, they're ok, but there doesn't seem like that much excitement in them. I would say the episodes start to go down after episode 34, because they just keep doing these pointless one-episode missions. It's very boring, and very pretictable, because all they do is get back the stuff with out going thourgh much. Of coruse, some of the episodes are funny, especially the one with Ginji in the hospital XD. Get Backers is a very fuuny anime with good plots, they just need to work up on those 1 episode missions.

In a nutshell, this series is something you should definately see if you like humorous anime with decent fighting scenes. This anime is easy to jump into, characters are cool (excluding the guy who looks like a girl),the voice actors fit into the characters well. Animation is overall decent, yet nothing special. OST is very good as well.

Already been said, but the story is lacking. But I dont agree that you should only see episodes 1-26, even without a continuous storyline this anime never got me bored or annoyed.

Conclusion: Go get it.

The GetBackers will get anything that has been lost or stolen back for you--with a 100% success rate. That is the basic premise for this show and it actually works pretty well despite how shallow it sounds. There's Retrievers, Protectors, Transporters, and so on all trying to outdo the others on a mission. Ok, so this may not anything groundbreaking, but the anime was fun--if only decent. The two big pluses here are the excellent characters and the punching comedy that never gets old, like a fearful Thunder Emperor trying to run away from the scary (but cool) Asabake. The characters are all definitely cool and they all have some relationship with another character at some point in the past--this show looks a lot into the past.

Now, the problem with the anime is the story. There are lots of fillers that, while not boring, get annoying because the main storyline gets stalled. The dialogue is generic and you can predict basically everything that will happen--whenever something bad is going on for the good guys, you know they will win in the end. That got old for me. Something I found disturbing was the frequent homo-erotic moments that apparently they wanted to pass as friendship, but, I swear, I felt like those guys were about to kiss. That stuff girls may like, but I thought it was...well...gay. The main storyline is merely decent. Instead of focusing on the characters' fight against their past more, they spent the time developing a thin story with a horrible Disney ending. Come on, not everything can be resolved with words--sometimes you just gotta kick some ass. I wanted to see more about the characters' lives when they were in the Volts and I wanted to find out more about their motivations. Watch this to waste some time, but don't expect anything more than an above average anime.
