Kurogane Communication is a great show to watch if you enjoy disappointment - that's probably the best way to summarise it.

The premise is great - a girl in a post-apocalytic world whose only friends are the robots who woke her from cryo-stasis. Can't you just imagine that being a good show, or even a classic?

Unfortunately, it was bungled by a mediocre director and producer.

The show has a cheap "TV" look, but, more than that, the backgrounds and character designs are really mediocre and unappealing, and the directing is crude and uninteresting. The OP/ED are nice and sweet in a kawaii kind of way, but are wasted in this show.

The script is okay, some good moments along with the usual cliches, but could have been lifted up if someone with a good visual and dramatic sense (like Akitaro Daichi - Fruits Basket, Jubei Chan) had directed.

What I'd really like is for someone to buy the rights and remake this show, because the concept has such great potential. It's not likely to happen, I know, but waiting for that would be a better use of your time than watching this show.

At first when I heard that she said she was the last human on earth, i went "huh!?" this must be somewhat interesting.

However, in reality, this anime series as Trigger says is "boring, boring, boring!" There is no purpose in this anime. A lot of robotic drama that is unimpressive. Furthermore, very unrealistic and unsympathetic. I just couldn't get into the mood and pace of the events. I couldn't sympathize with the characters and I just couldn't get into it. It isn't a bad story premises but the way it was put together, with the lack of any tension just couldn't maintain my interest.

Within the first episode of Kurogane Communication, I had drawn up a comparison that for some time proved surprisingly true: "It's like Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou, except with a point." While this series features the OVA's trademark tranquility and catharsis, it also ladles out heaping servings of sci-fi apocalypse plot devices. Unfortunately, the one pivot that this series lacks alongside YKK is the ability to take its calm nature and turn it into something that's worth the time. Both series are about worlds torn apart by some cataclysmic disaster and the quirky, droll lives of people living in these new worlds, but that's where the similarities end. Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou is safe, relaxing, contented all the way through. Kurogane Communication starts out as such, but at the halfway point becomes near-hysterical trying to find stuff for its characters to do.

I must say that I liked the first half of the tale better; unfortunately, the evolution that the series assumed had to be done. Would YKK have worked if it was as long as Kurogane Communication? Doubtful. Maria-sama Ga Miteru, also a similar series, certainly did not. Therefore, even though I had become perfectly content with the characters and the setting, the anime yanked me away from the ruins of Tokyo and thrust me into a foreign new place. Just like the discomfort I had felt when Alpha left Enoshima Island in YKK, I was troubled by our heroine Haruka's departure from her ruined home.

One might wonder what exactly caused the destruction of the Kurogane Communication world as we know it. Well, in yet another similarity to YKK, we are never told. Unlike the former series, however, this lack of exposition left me feeling strangely cheated, since this anime is very plot-driven. If there's one thing that Saikano taught us, it's that you can't very easily destroy the world and expect to get away with it without explanation. The theme in Kurogane Communication, however, is that of hope, starkly contrasted against Saikano's disgusting pessimism and constant melodrama. Hope is the fuel that keeps this series running, a message broadcasted primarily by its characters.

Haruka, against all odds, always keeps a smile on her face and an optimistic outlook on her situation. Though this infallible 'genki' attitude has doubtless grown a little old over the years, it suits her personality well. A girl who is able to touch the heart of anyone she meets, man or machine, is entitled to having such an upbeat disposition. Her voice acting, performed by Yui Horie, is a helpful highlight in her character's favor as well. Her robot companions are distinct and likeable, remarkably. With the exception of the dull, cold Cleric and the obnoxiously archetypal Trigger, Haruka's mechanical entourage actually manages to endear themselves to the viewer. Reeves is a well-played paradox; though he appears terrifyingly like the Terminator, he's actually a sensitive, almost effeminate robot who wears an apron and repairs all the other robots. Like Haruka's, his voice acting lends a lot more depth to his character, making him seem gentle instead of wimpy. Spike is an okay 'bot, even though his ecchi humor gets a little tiresome despite its infrequency. Angela, though initially a rather overdone 'stoic cold unapproachable combat machine' character, actually manages to undergo enough character development to make her a likeable character. She is also one of the only robots in the series who seems to have a point, which leads me to my final complaints.

Except for Angela, none of the rest of the machines ultimately seem to serve a purpose. They barely even do anything during the climax of the series; even Haruka is reduced to a bystander's standpoint as we watch one of the newer characters duke it out. In essence, the anime uses a batch of new characters that it introduces around episode 16 to take care of the rest of the series' plot...and that didn't sit well with me at all. I didn't like a single one of the characters introduced in the 'second world', so as their input in the series increased, I found my interest in the series decreasing as a result. Episodes 15 through 21 are extremely difficult to get through.

All in all, I found Kurogane Communication to be a fairly flawed anime that was kept afloat by its good nature and general lack of ambition. Each episode, being only about 10 or 11 minutes, is easy to digest and sit through, and as a result the series is generally very quick to finish. Lacking in cerebralism and complexity but never pathos or fun, watching an episode or two of this may serve as good filler between episodes of something slightly more dense.

(Wow the last time person review this was last year!!!! DAMN)

First of all, i'm not try to boost the rate or feel any pity for this anime.

Kurogane Communication is nice short anime.... don't let thouse 24 ep. fool you. The ep. is so short, it will feel like you watch 13 ep. of action.
The animation is avarage, sound is... ok i guess, story is really junk at first then it began to pick up sllllowwwwllyyy, Character is not that bad accept that almost eveyone* were robot ^^;. I can't say i'm enjoy this anime or not(just want to watch so i can burn into CD :D), but I can say i'm not falling asleep while watching any of these ep.

The setup is interesting, but the relationships with the robots are unrealistic even in a sci-fi context. Maybe explanations as to their plausibility come later, but I was not enough curious to find out...

Maybe it's good if wanting to watch cute sci-fi, with human-robot relationships. I just don't find an interest in this.

As for relations with Fruits Basket, I see what can be meant: the different robots correspond to the different zodiac sign characters. However, already from seeing the first ep, I did not think it was nearly as promising as seeing the first ep of Fruits Basket.

Top-notch animation that really fitted in the post-apocalyptic story.
If only the plot wasn't only driven by the feelings of the maincharacter, as the maincharacter was all too muchy for my taste. Some plotpoints really made the story worse then driving it forward, makeing this anime alot worse than it could have been.

Well-animated, this show is a decent viewing. For the better part of the middle portion of the show, episodes 7-16, I felt that this show was going nowhere. However, the opening and finishing eps are good enough for me to rate my enjoyment as an 8. The plot has a huge amount of potential at first, but I felt that they took to wrong direction with regards to it. The main human character, Haruka, essentially becomes an innocent magical girl whose wishes are to be the focal point of all the character's lives and whose actions show her innocence and lack of understanding and consideration for many others. I certainly did not want to watch a show with 8-10 year old feelings driving the plot... But alas... What it could have been..
