| Heat Guy J is a 25 episode action anime released in 2002. Although a bit lacking in action for its genre and very lacking in the pacing of its story, Heat Guy J is quite impressive in a number of other areas.
Heat Guy J contains a mix of impressive 3D CG graphics and animation, uniquely designed characters, and detailed scenery. Graphical errors are minor, and barely any animated repetition is present. Although sometimes the action sequences are lacking, Heat Guy J is outstanding to look at.
The theme songs in Heat Guy J are good to listen to and fit the anime. The background music, despite being very repetitive, complements each scene very well, and is quite memorable. The voice acting suit the respective characters, and is carried out to a high standard. Overall, although not as impressive as its looks mainly due to its repetitiveness, Heat Guy J is decent to listen to.
Despite having a story that comes together in the end, Heat Guy J is quite disappointing in its storyline. The main factor for this let down is the awful pacing, making many episodes feel jumbled and confusing. As a result, although Heat Guy J contains no filler episodes, many of them feel that way. The ending concludes nicely, albeit a bit quickly. A number of questions are also left unanswered when the anime concludes, and sadly, the poor pacing continues until the very end.
One of the areas Heat Guy J excels at would be its characters. The anime contains highly impressive character development, with most of its cast developed to a good extent. Even side characters are developed, which makes the storyline come together nicely in its final episodes. The adequate voice acting and unique personalities of many of its characters would have made Heat Guy J a very enjoyable anime, had it not been let down by it storyline.
Heat Guy J is nothing special. Although it has impressive graphics and animation, as well as very well developed characters, it lacks in action and storyline. Therefore, Heat Guy J offers nothing memorable. It is a nice anime, and perhaps worth checking out for people that are unsure of what to watch, but in my opinion, there are many other anime which will be far more enjoyable.

| Phew, a man seriously needs to do a lot of stuff, after watching this show you'll be able to create your own dictionary of what a "real" man is supposed to do.
However, besides the 'what a real man should do' lectures, Heat Guy J has nothing, not even a single original thing to offer. There are some bad guys, there are some good guys, good guys catch bad guys and an episode ends. That applies for the first 22 or so episodes. Characters, while original and somewhat interesting lack enough charm to keep you glued to screen through the countless filler episodes. There is something missing, something what makes you care for them. In the end, Heat Guy J doesn't do even a single thing any other show hadn't done before.
Basically, only casual watchers will enjoy this show, hardcore ones - beware. I made my mistake, so don't repeat it.

| There's ony word I can think of that personally sums up what I think of Heat Guy J and that's breathtaking!
I haven't enjoyed a shounen type action anime this much since Scryed and the only things that let this down are a couple of not so good ending themes and one unanswered question in the storyline - if it weren't for this, I would have to give this a perfect 10/10 for everything!
I only bought this series because of the character design (same designer as for Escaflowne the movie) and I rather liked the look of Daisuke ^_^ I wasn't sure what to expect, but it definitely went beyond anything I could have hoped for. A definite must watch ^_^

| Heat Guy J. I never really heard anything about it, so I guess I can say that this series is seriously underrated. The presentation of the series is very good. Animation is smooth and nice, while the musical score is very good. The storyline was also laid out nicely.
The faces on the characters were kind of distracting for a while mainly the nose drawing style. haha, it's a minor detail and you totally forget about it while watching everything in action. The music was very good, something you would think about getting the soundtrack for.
The plot is very good. Enjoyable story w/ it's comedic, cute moments sometimes. I think they could have made the main character go through more emotion, but watever. It turned out great. Go watch it. Recommended Highly.
Note: There have been previous reviews giving what I believe to be naive comments. This series gives a good watch to anime watchers who've watched little anime or a lot. It is its own series and does not try to imitate another. Of course those scrutinous ppl can find similarities in almost all animations and stories based on various archetypes.

| Well, I might be in a minority here, but I believe "Heat Guy J" is BETTER than "Cowboy Bebop". Yep, you've read that right. The main reason is totally personal, I couldn't connect to Bepop's cast as much as with this cast. That basically is the main reason.
Animation: I am not much of a CG fan, but I truely thought that the character designs were unique. You can easily distinguish between the characters, and to each is his own and distinct feel, unlike many of today's anime. Also, the use of colors here was a bit extreme but also worthy of praise, since it gave the anime its own personality.
Sound: The music fluxes between BRILLIANT and fair. at some parts of the anime, I was stunned by the amazing usage of the music, as it not only sounds great, but fits the scene like a glove. However, I've noticed that sometimes, it was misplaced and sounded a bit too strange. Overall though, I highly enjoyed this part of the anime. The original voice actors also managed to sound very calm yet mysterious, which fitted the general atmosphere.
Story: Well, there is no specefic plot, but that didn't prevent Bebop to be super popular. IMO, I thought the stories presented here were on par with the ones in Bebop, but I tended to get more involoved with them because of the better characters. Also, I thought there was great variety in those stories, and it was mostly well balanced between all of the characters. At the end, some mini story occurs to finalize the conflicts, and though it was a good one, it felt a bit rushed. Overall, I see no reason why you woudln't like this part of the anime if you liked it in Bebop.
Characters: Here is where the series simply shines. I thought there was an immense amount of variety in the personalities, to each is his own story and an amazing amount of depth. Now when I say depth, I mean subtley, not in a straightforward way. If you try and notice the facial expressions, they're very subtle, and carry a lot of "feelings". Also, I thought that the cast in general felt natural, even if thier behavior tended to be unrealistic at times. One important point is that the major characters were all likable, even the "evil" ones. This was simply because there was no PURE good or evil. Each character has his own advantages and disadvantages, his pros and cons. Thus, it was easy for me to connect to them. One point I would like to refer to, is that the approach that the cast was handled here was a bit similar to that of Bebop, though I felt more emotions coming from this one. I guess I can't give a perfect 10 to this catagory simply for the fact that it is a bit derivative, maily from Bebop.
Overall, I loved this series. it wasn't the best in everything, but it had a well defined cast that is easy to connect to, and a very unique setting. Sometimes, I really was in a sort of a trance state when a well made action scene kicks in with suitable music. If you thought Bebop was brilliant, I suggest you give this one a try. You might end surprised, just like I did.

| I thought Heat Guy was pretty good. I like the animation, would be a 10 if not for some bad character designs and some bad CGI. The voice cast in the sub did a good job and I like the the opening and closing. For the most Heat Guy is a very good series. And I liked most of the characters, they were devolped well but I found one of the main bad guys pretty annoying, Vampire when he goes inot his long laughs though it wasn't a major problem for me. The plot picks later on through the series. In the beginning some of the episodes were a little boring and thats really the only problem with the series. I didn't know what to expect beacause I heard good and bad things about this series but I liked it.

| Heat Guy J just tries too hard to be cool.
The first half of the series is painful to watch. It literally hurts.
The first episode is breathtakingly beautiful. The fight scene between J and the Android featured in the first episode is just memorizing. But alas, that's the pinnacle of this entire anime.
Storyline: Heat Guy only becomes watchable after you struggle through the first 13 or so episodes. It's just garbage up until that point.
The plot and storyline falls together so unnaturally that it's just impossible to believe ... even with a healthy dose of suspended reality.
The ending is so cliche and happy-go-lucky that you'll be cringing with disgust. Everyone unite and come together!
The early episode based storylines -- some of the worst writing I've ever seen from anything that's ever been published.
Music: I liked it ... I thought the musical score suited the anime. It's nothing strikingly remarkable, but it fits the mood and feel of the anime.
Animation: Beautiful. The polish on this one gleams. The CG is too heavy though.
Character: J was like a cross between Jet and Battou (sp?). Daisuka was like a wannabe Spike. I don't really wanna delve into the other characters... I'll just conclude by saying that they all sucked. I mean that too! From the stupid little picture girl to the dumb cop who does nothing. There's no character development either. They're all pretty static and devoid of any interesting traits.
Heat Guy J tries really hard to be Cowboy Bebop, but it fails to be anything but garbage. The storyline and characters just drag this thing way down.

| OMFG..... One of the most un-entertaining shows I've ever seen. For one thing, I mainly watched this because people kept saying it was like Cowboy BeBop (which is one of my fave anime btw) BUT IT HAS NO RELATION(S) WHATSOEVER!!!!!!! Second of all, there is NO plot at all, just random episodes, eventually meeting like two new characters in the middle and having a stupid half-assed, tryin-to-make-the-anime-have-meaning-but-it-isn't-working-at-all ending for the last four or so episodes, which is neither emotional or action-packed, even though the animators tried to do both at once. Because the story is basically nil, the character development was horrible. You learn almost nothing substantial about anyone's past except for J, who is a three year old android (how much could you possibly say about an android????? o_O). As well as that, as for that litle girl who I forgot the name of and always sold pictures in the anime, who was supposed to be the cliche "comic relief", she wasn't funny AT ALL.... On to the next item, the animation. I gave it a 5 all because the character models were completely CRAP. I liked a couple of them including the first android that J and Daisuke have to fight and a couple others, but that was it. None of the main characters were well drawn... NONE. First of all, why did ALL OF THE WOMEN (and girls) HAVE LIPSTICK!?!? Is it possible for a female to walk around without lipstick?? I think so!! And what was really stupid was that Clair was supposed to be lke 17 or something like that, but he looked like he was 13....O_o...... Also, Daisuke is horribly skinny!! How you can be that skinny and still live is unbeknownst to me. OK.... Other than the characters, the bgs were good, but sometimes, the cg looked a little too fake. That got me annoyed sometimes when the characters got into car chases and other things like that. Off of the animation and on to the sound, once again it was terrible. The first thing that the person hears when they start a new anime is the opening song right (in most cases, anyway)?? Then it would be totally logical to GET A GOOD OPENING SONG, right?? This anime completely missed the mark and used a horribly annoying OP called "Face" and it pissed me off on EVERY episode. The only good thing about the song was that the lyrics related to the anime. Other than that, it sucked. It was almost the opposite for the ED. The ED was fairly good, but it got annoying after a while. Also, the lyrics had nothing to do with the anime at all, so that was a minus, but I can let that one go. Other than the OP and ED, the songs used during action sequences and so forth once again, sucked. One thing that I was in utter shock about was that for the action scenes, they used some crappy medium-paced bagpipe song that my ears almost bled to when I heard it (of course I'm exaggerating, but, come on, BAGPIPES!?!!?). Another song that almost killed me was this slow, cliche violin song that was used during various parts of the anime. Ugh........ Enough of music, on to the character voices. For the Japanese/subs, the voices were pretty good. The only one that really bothered me was Clair (who was a boy) who had this horrible ear-piercing, shrieking voice. Other than that the Japanese voices were fine. With the English/dubs, the male voices were okay, but the female voices were just..... :$ ....... It sounded like all of the damn females had some horrible throat condition that made their voices ultra super uber high except for this one lady who was a reporter on TV. Either the casting directors just did a terrible job, or the producers wanted us, the viewers, to writhe in pain each time a woman (or girl for that matter) talked.
Basically this was one of the worst anime I've personally seen. Another anime that ranked high with this one was Serial Experiments Lain. Those anime were just good money wasted. Also I didnt like Kiddy Grade that much, but it was only because it wasn't my "style" (it put me to sleep).
It wasn't because of the animation or horrible sound or terrible story that made me dislike that one, however. I sware this anime (and its producers) are lucky I watched through the whole thing (I never stop in the middle of an anime). This one almost drove me to death. Even though I didnt like the anime, however, this might be a good anime for beginners to anime, like for a first impression type of thing, because they aren't used to the type of plot/animation/sound that is usually present in anime, or would make an anime a classic. But for "experienced" anime watchers, I honestly don't think this anime would fare well.
OK.... obviously I didnt like the anime at all, so re-viewing this anime and the extreme enjoyment that got from this anime is nil and deserves to have nothing in those respective categories. They should definitely put in a zero slot for value and enjoyment.

| Yet another letdown. I sought out this anime because some site credited Escaflowne’s writers with having done this as well. If they did, I’m surprised and saddened. I’ve made it through episode 14, and just can’t go on. I know what people say about many a series picking up in the second half, but this is absurd. Nothing I’ve watched gives me any indication I’m going to get anything but the same for episodes 15-25.
I post this review chiefly because this anime hasn’t been reviewed enough. Often I’ll use this site to decide on what new anime to grab by checking on a user or two that I respect and scrolling through what they’ve posted. In case you do the same and stumble upon me, this is here to help guide you.
So, my suggestion, if this anime sounds interesting to you, is to watch a couple episodes and see if what you think about it rings true with what I’ve been saying. If it does, I have two more humble suggestions: either a) stop watching; or b) hit up a recent reviewer for a plot summary of episodes 2-14, and watch from there, because believe me, you aren’t missing anything by skipping them. The animation is fine, the music is OK, the main characters hardly get fleshed out at all, the peripheral characters are nothing special, and the episodal characters often stink.

| Heat Guy J is definitely one of the most under-appreciated anime out there. It has unfortunately inherited a bad name among many because it aired on MTV2, or because the fansubs never reached the truly good episodes near the series before Heat Guy J got licensed, I don't know, but this anime deserves much more of a following than it has.

| Zzzzz Too sleepy to type. Right...
When you watched this series, it's like you watching a real-life story in LA or NY. Althou our main guy made it looks so easy you just keep watching it without any tense or headach. Background music almost moves the world with breeze. It's used many languges on the signes in the slum and casio. Kinda weird that they write some of the Thai text and some BGM sound like come from thai-languge too. The story is great, it have one boss after another like in rpg game. The plot twist and turn, the bad guy is not REAL BAD ASS like in real-life thou. Our hero keep talking them off the devil path and enlight them to the true part.. blah blah blah you know the rule. I gave 10 for chracter since every freaking character in the story got a role and have some history in the series. They balance the power well, same thing with char. air time. Nobody got left behind in this series.
*Note: I smiled at all time while watching this series. :)

| This is one amazing series. I wonder why there are so few reviews. First of all, the animation is on well-done, although character designs are a bit strange, they grow on me after a while. I enjoyed this anime very much... the characters are original. Daisuke never loses his cool, and Clair is just plain crazy. The best thing is how the story comes together building up to a climax in the final episode. This is done a lot better than many top animes that have mediocre endings. My favorite soundtrack from this show is Hikari (2nd ending). Definitely recommended.

| I just finished this anime and was interested from start to finish. The characters are very nicely done but the animation gets a little getting used to. Shun and Kyoko looks a little weird, but that's my opinion. It's an excellent detective and action series, Daisuke does a little one on one combat ala Spike from Cowboy Bebop. The music is astounding, at first I hated the opening theme music, sounded like rap, but the other music later one was beautiful. I especially love the second ending theme. So go watch this anime now!

| Great action show with tons of style. If you're into action shows like Cowboy Bebop, Outlaw Star, or Trigun, you're going to enjoy this one.
For the most part it's an episodic series (this is not a bad thing!), with quite a few story episodes. We're introduced to the character of Daisuke Aurora and his robot partner, J, take on some crime cases and mysteries. Definitely some interesting stuff here, and the main characters are not cliched, save maybe for Yoko and Boma.
This is an action show, and there's a lot of it here. If you're into those girly pink anime, chances are this will be too masculine for you. So stay away if you're the faint of heart kind. :P

| Overall a great anime. Not really good but not bad either. =)
The artworks of the characters and the concept backgrounds, all of the animation, even the storyline looks like and does reminds you of "Escaflowne". Afterall, it is the same maker so it should. =)
On the storyline, there's really nothing really special about this anime, but it still have a catchy enough of a story to make you keep on watching it. =)
The character developments was okay, althrough it does gets werid and Way "Escaflowne" likre after the first 14 - 15 eps. But overall, they did an okay job keeping the viewer interests.
I do recommand this anime to everyone, but I would suggest renting it or get it on fansub only "if there's still any =P" because theres really not much replay value to it.

| This is it! I've been waiting for this kind of anime since Cowboy Bebop! It's pretty loose in the beginning, but it shows the tendencies for a darker more deep story as the series progresses! Very recommended for all you Spike Spiegel fans out there!

| Initially, the litmus test for those who like, and those who dislike, Heat Guy J is a simple one: do they like the character designs of Nobuteru Yuuki?
He is certainly very distinctive, in this day of bland, cookie-cutter character designed in anime. That tends to lead to those whose tastes have been dulled on blandness to steer away from anything even vaguely resembling this.
But I can live with it. The designs reminded me of his Escaflowne work, and I loved that show, so that wasn't the problem for me.
The simplicity of the plots are also easy to brush over: they're not particularly intellectual, and so don't really offend in any way, shape or form. But they don't do the show any favours, either, so one is left with the characters. Fortunately, they have enough issues (especially Clair, Heat Guy J's purple and black haired Dilandau clone) to keep one amused.
But everything does start to fall apart in the middle of the series, so all enthusiasm on my part has to be tempered.
Addendum: this show bombed badly at my local anime society.... I made the suggestion to play it. I also made the suggestion to shelve it. Looks like one will have to view HGJ as a private passion....
