2009-11-03 19:30:20 Doff [Administrator] :: Oricon Block! |
|
Hey!
Alright, so this has been in the air for a loong time, and we're now finally starting it up.
First, after seeing the results from the poll we're currently running: its clear this needs some explanation. The oricon top 30 chart is basically Japans weekly top songs list which is updated once a week. We can see such lists in most countries where new songs come in, some drop out, some up and some down. That's basically what it's about, a list with the currently top 30 songs in Japan.
We have a oricon page on this site which is updated once a week according to the official list. For those who didn't know: http://www.animenfo.com/radio/oricon.php
Remember, this is not an AnimeNfo Radio generated list, but a list with "This weeks currently top 30 in Japan"
Now, starting this upcoming Friday we're launching a oricon block, playing these songs in countdown style; 30-1. You can see when this is happening by clicking "view the schedule" or here: http://www.animenfo.com/radio/schedule.php
We hope this becomes a hit, so please tune in!

Hello everyone!
Alright, first off now: I'm sad to say, we've been trying to avoid it, but it showed to be no way around. Lorri is leaving us as a mod for various stuff which i don't want to get in detail about. Lorri has done alot of great work, and we thank him for that, but it just doesn't work anymore. I dont want to see any discussion about this in the chatter, please just let it go.
Ryoma is also someone who has become an UVIP, i'm sure alot of you wonder what the deal is with him? Well, Ryoma has been a mod for a long time, started out basically because he's one of my best friends in real life. It's been along time since he's done any mod work, and i simply just haven't thought much about it, he's just been a mod. Which is why he now is demoted to UVIP. The staff deserves respect, and they also need to earn it.
Over to something nice; We are welcoming two new mods to our team, Sheepy and astrangerhere. Sheepy was a mod a few years ago, and left us because of stuff going on in life, i would guess that not many of you remember that, he is now back and ready for some hard work.
astrangerhere has shown huge interest and helped out alot with various stuff, we basically feel that she'll be able to do a good job for many reasons.
Now, these two does not become mods for free, there are responsibilites following, and lot of work. Our community is nice in the way that everyone knows what going on, be it good or bad, and everyone helps out. Please make it easy on them, and treat them with respect, and they'll do the same back.
That being said: astrangherhere: Welcome to the AnimeNfo Radio Team! Congrats!
Sheepy: Welcome to the AnimeNfo Radio Team! Congrats!
Would also like to use this oppertunity to say thank you very much to everyone who's made a donation, and bought something from our shop. There's a LOT of data going forth and back from our servers, this costs money. Very appreciated!
Stay tuned, and enjoy!

Hey.
The load on one of the 192k servers is starting to become too great, so it's being moved.
The server i'm talking about is 174.133.218.38< this server is being shut down on oct 1st~ and replaced with http://216.245.222.85:8000. which is already up and running. Please change to the server last mentioned so we won't get any questions about "why aint the radio working?" when the time comes :)
Cheers!

2009-09-04 22:59:03 Yhn [Webmaster] :: [Resolved] Unexpected Radio downtime |
|
|
Hey all,
As you might have noticed, we're experiencing some downtime on our radio servers. The main cause of this is a hard drive in our streaming server that told us to do it ourselves.
As we're 'speaking', supers (the owner of that box) is getting to the box to try and fix the disk. Current eta is set to ~30 minutes; I'll try to keep you all posted on any progress.
Update:
supers arrived, powered off everything and rebooted. We seem to have a working disk now. It's being cloned now just to be on the safe side, after that we'll boot it up completely again and the radio will be back in action.
Eta of this all is 10~20 minutes. We'll keep you posted.
Sorry for the inconvenience, and we hope to get back to you as soon as possible.
Update:
We've got it resolved. Unfortunately with one casualty; luckily that was not the hard drive ;). So, with a 'new' network card, the server's up and running again; and so is the radio!
Enjoy, sorry for the inconvenience, and thanks for flying AnimeNfo :D.

|
|
AnimeNfo radio will be down for about 8 hours next Sunday the 19th. The servers are being moved to a new location.
[update by Yhn]
Changed the title; as it's not only the site, but the whole radio being down due to the SAM box also moving along.
[update by supers]
Move was successful, everything is up and running again.

2009-07-12 12:01:02 Yhn [Webmaster] :: Update News! |
|
|
General News Update
So... It's been quite a while, hasn't it? First off, sorry for the lack of news the past months. Apparently Doff got busy; and I didn't have much news to tell you about.
No news for May and June, and this might count as July's news. If Doff goes on a hiatus again, I might try picking up monthly news updates, but we'll see about that later.
Yet, I have news now. As you might have noticed, I've just updated the site to a new version.
As I'm preparing this text before the actual update, I have no idea about how well it would work out. I hope it won't cause too much downtime. n.n That said, I’m going to start with some general news, and then I have some notes on the rules further down. Make sure you read the rules update. Saying "I didn't know" just won't cut it anymore.
What's in the update? What's new? What has still to be done?
First off, the update is huge. A lot of things have been added and fixed. I know I took my time to finish off V2, after all, we're more then four months running on V2 now. And that V2, starting off to be a bare minimum, has also finally come together. All in all, it took almost a year to get this far. But I still feel it's time well spent, considering the current stability of the site and compared to the old site.
So, I said it came together... But I guess you might want to know what exactly is done, and what still has to be done. To start with, V2 has now reached the point where it can do whatever V1 could and more. Basically; V2 is so called "feature-complete". This includes the "My Rated" songs, and all other pages that had been missing from V2.
As the site is now, it is indeed feature complete; yet there are still some things that don't work completely as I - or others - would like to see them work. This includes functionality as well as performance, but also the feature requests. I will start getting through that section of the bug/feature tracker to check and see if it would be useful to have the suggested features and whether or not it would be worth the time required to put in.
I can't give you an exact list of things I still need to do, as that list is ever growing and shrinking. Some things that I'm still working on, and trying to get into the next release are:
- An interface on which third party programs could function.
- More performance tuning.
- Writing a more extended system for request delays (more about this in the next part).
At the time of preparing this post, almost all templates are already updated to include the new functionality. I hope that by tomorrow; they are all done. (Update for myself; they are :D)
RULES UPDATE
Rules about Requesting
Besides the update, I've been trying to enforce a rule on requesting that - for some reasons - doesn't seem to be clear enough. I don't want to put up an entire story in the Rules & FAQ about this, though I might decide to try and make the rule more clear in the rules section too. Since it feels impossible to me to explain this all in the chatter over and over again, with people interrupting on all sides, I'll use this news post to tell the story behind it.
The rule I'm talking about is the following:
"Don't spam requests - show respect for other members. Give others the chance to request too, and listen in normal time; if you've already requested a lot lately and you see a long queue, just keep your requests for later. When the queue is almost empty you can request again."
What do I exactly want to achieve with this rule? Shortly put, I want to keep the queue as short as possible. Or, avoid getting an unnecessary long queue. Some of you people tend to ask for hard numbers over and over again, yet I feel like not giving hard numbers for the simple reason that people then will push it to the limits as far as they can, or that it sounds stricter then it has to be. This might be hard for some to understand, and easy for others; yet I hope everyone understands what I want after reading this.
There are some people on the radio that almost never request. They don't request because when they're online, they can only be online for a few hours. Those people come online, see a queue that is longer then the time they can be online, and decide it's useless to request. Some of them have been complaining a bit about it, and I've been looking at the queue since then. What I noticed was, simply put, that there was almost always a queue far over 2 hours long. Not much wrong yet. However, every day I checked those long queues, it seemed as if I always saw the same names in there; over and over again. At that point, I started wondering if those people understood that when they wouldn't have requested; some other members could've requested songs and actually listen to those requests.
After the members who I saw in those queues daily, thought it would be good to request a second block of six songs in a queue that was so long that the system 'allowed' it... I snapped. Apparently, the fact they could do it was enough reason to actually do so. I won't be telling the whole story of what happened; as the people that should know, do know already. I've been trying to explain this story ever since that day, without much results.
While trying to explain that I just wanted people to mind the queue length when requesting frequently, people started defending. Saying that I should just limit the request rules then, or that I should define 'frequently'. Common sense isn't around, I noticed that much by now.
Why not adjust the request rules to 3 songs per 75 minutes instead of the 6 per 150? It's fairly simple. This so-called 'solution' people kept throwing in, doesn't prevent the queues from getting long. I still don't feel it's needed to limit the amount of songs one can request, but I do feel like clarifying this rule so that the queue can stay small.
Why not just adjust the system them? Another thing I've heard some people say. My answer; if I 'just' could, I would. The problem is that writing such a system easily takes a hell lot of hours. Mind you that I'm working on the site about whenever I have a small bit of free time. I'm still studying at the university and have a part-time job, I don't have so much time on my hands to 'just' make something this huge. I, however, am going to make it. Then why this? Because if I don't clear this up, the queue won't be normal until the next version is done. The next version is going to take a long time, simply because of me having to make such advanced systems in the small amount of time I have for it.
Besides those questions, people asked me what I called long. Or whatever terms I used in the chatter and rules. As said before, I don't want to name hard numbers because of people pushing stuff to the limit then. I've put a few guidelines in the rule's examples, but those where broken too.
So, when should you or, maybe more important, when shouldn't you request songs? As SAM automatically puts songs in the queue, at least 5 songs will always be there; taking ~4 minutes on average for a song; that would already be 20 minutes. Putting aside the length in minutes; as soon as the queue gets down to 6 songs or less, I don't mind anyone requesting. However, this does not mean you can just request 6 songs as soon as the queue gets to 6 songs (I feel like pointing the hard limit pushing thingey out here again). Say you'd request together with someone else, and you both request 6 average songs; the queue would 'explode' up to ~60 minutes. When three or more people do it, the queue tends to get large again fast.
For every request you're willing to make, you should check the queue. If you are around almost always, and requesting some songs (almost) every day, please just keep in mind that not everyone can be around so much, and try to keep your requests in short queues (define short? no, read back a bit).
I hope that this clears it up as much as needed. I hope people will see in why I am trying to enforce this rule so much, and I hope people won't try pushing limits for it. I would like to see queues where not only anyone can request in, but also where everyone can listen to their requests. I would like to see people being around much to respect the fact that not everyone can be around that much.
With this said, I will no longer be accepting any people that do this. If you do, you'll get a warning or get suspended. If you keep requesting at moments you shouldn't, you will lose the right to request. Losing the right to request might be permanent, or you might get another chance when the new system is in place and working.
Rules about warnings and bans
If you get warned by a mod, albeit in the chatter or through the warning system; they're right. If you really think they aren't, mail the mod in question; or any other mod. I will no longer tolerate people complaining about and against those warnings in the chatter, and will also add this as a rule to the rewritten Rules & FAQ (note that this might take a few days). A mod will usually decide to warn you in the chatter if you're around and it's something 'small', and use the warning system otherwise. Even if a mod decides to warn you in the chatter, don't fuss about it, ask the mod's mail (or whatever) if needed and take it there. Again –do not start the discussion in chatter. Doing so will likely earn you a longer suspension or lead to you losing chatbox privileges.

2009-04-21 20:05:00 Doff [Administrator] :: April News! |
|
|
Hey everyone!
The weather is starting to get warmer AnimeNfo Radio is rolling a 100% (almost) can it get any better?
Main even for the news post this time around is our mod! First, i got to say it has not been easy, we've been looking for months and fell on Lorri in the end. Lorri, congrats and welcome to the team!
Why Lorri? What i/we look for in a mod is that he/she is dedicated, honest, and most of all, trust in that the person will do his "job". I know there has been some talk of this subject, behind the scenes and openly which i'm not going into detail about, so to the ones that it concerns, let it go.
Alright, new anime season= new and awesome songs, so stay tuned for the new additions! Especially like the Phantom OP by KOKIA.
Don't hesitate to send me or any of the mods a mail if there's something you're wondering about, read the faq and ask in the chatter first though ~_^
( So, what's up? Nice weather today........)
Stay Tuned!
~out.

2009-03-24 23:04:04 Doff [Administrator] :: March News! |
|
Hello!!
What is great Tuesday evening this really is.
Alright, first out, of course, V2 was launched by Yhn at the end of the first week in this month! There have been a lot of talk about the "V2" for a long time now, and finally, there it was! It's still not complete, as you can read from Yhn's post, but we'll get there.
Now, on to the thing that just made me so happy. AnimeNfo Radio just settled a sponsorship with http://archonia.com/ , we have agreed on doing this for april at first and see how it goes, so please if you're looking to buy any anime stuff, please check them out ^_^ I don't like asking for donations, so hope we can lower the standards a bit. I have been working a lot with this, so its also the reason why i haven't been much active these past few weeks, the newest anime songs are on their way.
Finally, i can't thank you enough for the massive response i got from the feb news post, the goal was met the very same day, that's not something you would see i any online community.
Oh and, Our users rated a song 1,507,329 times, i really like that number, keep it up!
Like the new ads panda made for us btw? Stay tuned~

2009-03-07 16:38:25 Yhn [Webmaster] :: Wait, what?! What happened? |
|
I... I am at AnimeNfo radio... right?!
Yes, yes... it might be the first thing crossing your mind after coming back to AnimeNfo Radio today. And yes, you are at AnimeNfo Radio!
So, what happened? In short, I finally put V2 up. Something which should have been done way earlier, but due to circumstances was not possible yet.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
MOST IMPORTANT PART:
Go to http://www.animenfo.com/radio/convertaccount.php to enable your account on V2!
(you have to copy/paste it, due to a broken BBcode)
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Things you should know first:
- BBCode (temporarely) doesn't work; so don't mind all the BB-tags around the site too much, this will be resolved asap.
- This is not a full implementation. As you might already see at the poll block, there are parts that still have to be implemented.
Why I chose to already put it up? Because V1 was horrible. And V2 should be better... At least the code is clean, and the queries should also be less heavy as before.
NOTE: Pages NOT implemented yet WILL redirect to the index!
- There is only one theme yet. This means I'm looking for people that are willing to make themes. I require those people to be able to at least update their template when needed for at least 6 months though; since complete custom skins can fail when new pages or functionality is added. If you are interested, mail me (Yhn [at] animenfo [dot] com) or get to me on IRC or the chatterbox.
- SVIP+ members (temporarely) can't see the SVIP+ radio url. If you are a SVIP+ and need the URL, email me (with your registered address) at Yhn [at] animenfo [dot] com.
What you should do if you find something you think works wrong?
- Go to the bug/feature tracker (top of the screen, in the menu), and post a bug. Please see if someone else didn't already post it though! Also, please specify on what page you've found it, and after which steps.
What you should do if you have a great idea we should implement in v2?
- Again, go to the bug/feature tracker, and file a feature request. I will then check if it's possible and useful. If it is, I will add it! (Can't promise yet when though, I plan on finishing V2 completely first!)
What should you do if you want more information?
Email me your question (Yhn [at] animenfo [dot] com), or try finding me in our IRC channel (#animenfo @ irc.animenfo.com) or the chatterbox.
For now, this is it.
Update for March 16th:
