| | World War Three was not a nuclear war, but the devastation it caused was still widespread enough to nearly destroy human civilization. In the war's aftermath, former S.W.A.T. soldier Deunan Knute and her cyborg boyfriend Briareos are eking out a meager nomadic existence in the bombed-out urban wasteland known as "Badside." Then they receive an invitation to Olympus City, a seemingly utopian metropolis which is overseeing the world's rebuilding efforts, under the direction of a organization called "Aegis." But Olympus City isn't quite what it seems â€" for one thing, most of the population, including Aegis itself, is composed of clones and artificial humans known as "bioroids." For another, the whole thing is overseen by a powerful computer named Gaia that doesn't seem to be trusted by either the citizens or by Aegis. As Deunan and Briareos try to build lives for themselves in Olympus City, they find themselves caught in the crossfire as warring factions within Aegis struggle to advance their own ideological agendas... with the future of humanity hanging in the balance.
