| Junior high school student Miaka Yuki is stressed beyond belief about high school entrance exams. So she muddles through textbooks (and eats), attends cram school (and eats), and spends all her free time studying (or eating). While at the library with her best friend Yui, she comes across The Universe of the Four Gods, a book that is a spell which transports both girls to ancient China. Things take a turn for the worse posthaste, but luckily a dashing young fighter saves the pair from attackers. No time for intros though, as the girls find themselves transported back to modern day Japan as quickly as they left.
Dismissing their momentary sojourn as a weird dream they run to cram class, leaving the mystic book back on the shelf. But Miaka has a hard time banishing it from her mind and, after an argument with her mother, she finds herself returning to the library. Once again she opens The Universe of the Four Gods and is startled to find her own life unfolding on the pages. Her next big shock: she’s back in ancient China and it’s her job to gather the seven celestial warriors and summon the god Suzaku. There is a silver lining though. If she manages to pull it off, she gets to have three wishes granted.
