The Picture Book This was an awesome ep. That’s the best art since the guitars in Beck. I just got the high quality file, I can’t wait to check it out. Does anyone know if this story is based on an actual book/fable?

It’s a fictional book. However, it is said that the story was based on the book written by Mikolas Ales, a Czech painter.

Cool, thanks guys. That guy is a good illustrator. IMG gallery is good too, but I haven’t had time to flip through it all and see if there is a monster-like story.

Woah, I had no idea the picture books were based on an actual author! Thank you very much for finding that link, Nifty.
(On a side note, I was kind of diasappointed with how the picture book was handled in the anime... it felt weird animated like that; I think it would have been better if they used stills, like in the endings.)

I liked it, but I’m a fan of experimental art/animation. I liked the old European art style with the grainy film. Stills would have worked but I give them credit for attempting to break the mold.
