Chiyo-chan's father yakuza? You know, there's quite a bit of evidence that Chiyo-chan's father is in the yakuza... hear me out
* He named his daughter Chiyo and his dog Tadakichi - both very old-fashioned names. Yakuza are generally strict traditionalists.
* He has a security gate and a very large dog.
* He's rich.
* He's sending his daughter overseas at an exceptionally early age - maybe she's not safe in Japan?
* Chiyo never mentions her father, even when Sakaki suggests he's a cat.
* Mihama just sounds like a yakuza name
Hmmmm...
Cheers,

Re: Chiyo-chan's father yakuza? First off, for those of you (including me) who didn't know what "yakuza" means, it means the Japanese mafia.

Aren't many Japanese traditionalists?

Isn't that because he's rich?

eh? (mind you, i've only seen up to ep 21 or so)

lol, as to be expected from Sakkaki ^_^ . Chiyo doesn't talk much about her personal life at all from what I remember.

Where does that come up in the anime? At the dinner?

You won't see many Chiyos in this day and age... Google up "Chiyo" and you get, basically, only Chiyo-chan.

Sure, but Japan's known to be a pretty safe society without much random crime. Why all the precautions?

Yeah, that's all ep 22-24 stuff... Chiyo doesn't take the entrance exams with everyone else because she's going overseas, so she stays home and breaks chopsticks in accordance with one of Osaka's ridiculous superstitions

It doesn't come up in the anime. My (Japanese) girlfriend just thinks it sounds really Yakuza, and she didn't care to elaborate further...
Anyway, I strongly doubt Azuma had any intention of making Chiyo's father a yakuza character.. just thought there were a number of amusing arguments for it.

Is it only me or isn't there a passage somewhere where they ask Chiyo about her father's work and she goes on talking about how he works and all she says is a referall to smuggling and such and then the teachers freak out and tell her to stop?

Holy thread revival batman....
Is this actually a new record for thread revival?, I mean i really wish you'd waited an extra 9 days and it would have been a full year between posts o_0
That said, I have no answer for you and I'm also not going to lock this because it's in an anime specific section, so carry on ^^
And kudos on the most spectacular thread revival I've ever witnessed

In hindsight I am sure there was a passage where Chiyo talks about her dad in that manner.
I've plans for a 4th reviewing of the series so I'll confirm it later:)

I'm glad you never thought about that, and enjoyed the information you found, but ...
If you arent going to add anything constructive or useful .. Why revive the thread? There is no need.. Not to mention The thread starters are probably not even here anymore..
If you want to revive a thread add something useful rather than just saying..
Wow.. Or That was good..
Otherwise there is really no point in the revival..

Y'know, I can kind of picture it.
Chiyo holding an assault rifle blowing an officers brains out.
You may have something there.
