*1.) How do I mark a Spoiler properly?
Easy! All you have to do is a few things
-Highlight the text you want to make a spoiler.
-Choose the "QUOTE" tags at the top bar. that way, it'll be surrounded by a white background, no matter what colour the post background is.

-Re-highlight the text again, making sure NOT to include the "QUOTE" tags, and choose under the FONT selection "WHITE". That's it.

*2.)What's the "skinny" on Avatars and Signatures?
Well, Animenfo rules state:

6. Post Avatar and Signature Rules:
__a. The maximum allowed dimensions for an avatar are 130 X 220 pixels. (wXh)
__b. The maximum allowed dimensions for a signature is 500 X 250 pixels. (wXh)
__c. Both the entire avatar and signature can be no larger than 100 KB.

What does this mean?

Well, the dimensions of the avatar and the signature are pretty standard.

a.)Avatar: you can only have an avatar that fits the 130X220 pixel limit. But, in order to make things easier for users here, you can now upload your avatar to animenfo and we'll host it for you!

b.)Signature: Any amount of suitable multimedia may be placed here as long as it fits the 500X250 pixel boundary. This also applies to the addition of text as well, i.e: if you have a signature picture and add text along with it, they both must fit withing the 500X250 limit.

c.) Now this is the part some might find confusing. Both the avatar and the signature COMBINED must come within the 100KB limit. it can't be higher than that. so you can have an avatar which is 90K, but your signature picture can only be 10K or less. Also, you can only have one image in your signature box.

*3.) Is there a policy that the forum has for "dead threads"? What is considered to be a dead thread? And are there exceptions?
Yes, we do have a policy regarding 'dead' threads'. If you're wondering what a dead thread actually is, it's basically a thread where no one has replied to in a very long time, so the discussion is considered technically 'dead'.

So what does this mean in terms of reviving it, or even making a new thread in case you want to restart the conversation? Well, reviving a dead thread on this board is a bit funny, in that there are basically different areas of the boards, and in that, the policies in each area differ slightly.

They can basically be grouped into:

A. The main chat forums such as the General Chat, Anime & Manga Chat, Writers Block, Musically Gifted, Artists Corner, Gamers Corner, Animenfo Radio.

B. The Anime Discussion Forum, which consists of discussion forums for specific animes.

Now, for the main chat forums, a thread which has passed 6 months of inactivity where no one has posted, would technically be considered a dead thread. At that point, we ask members who would like to start a thread and find that it has been discussed previously, to please check the date of the last post to see if it's too old. If it has, please make a new thread to see if there is any renewed interest in the discussion. Do not revive the previous thread, otherwise it will be locked.

In regards to the Anime Discussion Forum (ADF), the way it works is slightly different. Due to the fact that the amount of posts that are generated in the ADF is lower in terms of volume compared to the other forums, we tend to be very lax when it comes to what is considered to be a 'dead thread' in that forum. Many threads in that forum are well over a year old in terms of its last post. So, if you do come across a thread in the anime discussion folder that you wish to discuss, yet it is quite old in terms of its last post, a year or more from its last post date, you can technically revive the thread in question, without it being locked, providing of course that you make an effort to validate its renewal. One liner posts, posts that add nothing to the discussion, or pure spam posts with lots of emoticons will result in a quick lock. Continuously posting in this manner, especially after being told by others and especially moderators not to, will result in warnings being issued.

However, if the post you make is quite well thought out, and not only adds to the existing conversation, but also adds something new to the mix, the thread will remain open for others to join in.

Forums such as Animenfo Feedback, the addition to the database forums, as well as the review center do not apply to this since they are different in that they deal with website maintenance, and any 'bumps' that are made are allowed.

*4.) I keep getting yelled at for double-posting, but it's not my fault! It's just too slow at going through! What can i do to make sure I don't do a double post again?
Double-posting can be prevented by clicking on the "SUBMIT" button ONCE, when you finish writing your post. If it takes a long time for the post to be submitted, there's a chance that there might be heavy traffic that day, so the response time maybe a little sluggish. Rest assured, your post is being sent through.

If on the off chance that you do make a double post, look at the last post you made. Next to it in the BOTTOM RIGHT CORNER of the post, there will be a "Trash Can". that means you can delete the post, BUT only before someone else posts to it. Deleting the post before anyone sees it is also very cool.

5.) I forgot something and I wanna be able to make an addition to my existing post without making a double post. how do i do that?
Simple, all you have to do is look at the bottom right corner of your post in the thread. There, you'll see under your post an icon of a piece of paper with a pencil on top of it. click on it, and you'll be taken back to your original post. There you can make whatever changes you want and resubmit it.

*6.) HELP! I just wrote out a post that i spent over two hours writing, and when i click submit, i get the login screen! What do I do?
With the updated version of phpBB, once you relog, it should put up your post for you. However, as things can go screwy, we advise you to backup your work, especially if it's a long post that took a long while to prepare.

Before you click on submit, do the following steps:

-Highlight your entire post text.

-Open up any word processor on your computer, we recommend notepad, as it has a very quick load time and serves its purpose quite well.

-COPY and PASTE your text over to Notepad. That way, you'll have a backup of your original.

-Go ahead now, and click on SUBMIT. If you get an error message or it doesn't post it for you, you'll have nothing to worry about, since you've got a backup right in front of you! just go back to the posting screen and copy the text over from notepad back.

7.) I'm having problems while browsing the forum and/or the main site! What do i do?
If you have problems while browsing the forum or the main site, make a post in the "AnimeNfo Feedback" section about your problem you're encountering, and be as detailed as possible by including any error messages that you recieve. Moderators as well as Administrators go through this section regularily and it's here you'll most likely get an answer to solve your problem.

8.) I got a link to a REALLY REALLY cool site, but when i paste URL, it's SO long that it starts to scroll! How do i make it shorter?
All you have to do is add a couple of things in the URL so that it'll be a "condensed" version of the original URL that you posted.

First, copy and paste the URL you want to post up.

Next, add the URL tags at the top with the following additions. (REMEMBER NOT TO LEAVE SPACES AS I DID. IT WILL NOT WORK OTHERWISE. I JUST DID THIS TO DEMONSTRATE WHAT TO TYPE.)

Once you do that (and remember to keep in mind to not leave spaces... it should turn out like this:

9.) Help! I can't see any images on the forums and on the main site!
It looks like you have some type of spyware installed thats rewriting your referral address, as we disabled the offsite images to discourage remote linking of them. Try running ad-aware http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/ If you still have a problem feel free to post it in Site feedback.

10.) How do I get a picture in my signature?
In order to get a picture in your signature you need to first get the picture hosted on the internet. Second you need to copy the pictures URL and then paste it like this [img](your picture URL here)[/img] in the signature text box in your profile. Then you click submit.

11.) How do I get a picture hosted?
To host a picture on the internet you will have to either visit a site such as www.ripway.com or www.photobucket.com to upload your picture to their site. Or you can host it yourself using space that your webservice provider has giving you(if they dont have this available to you then you can't). To find out how to upload to said space if available contact your webservice provider.

*12.) Can I upload pictures besides my avatar picture to this site?
No. We used to be able to, but due to certain issues which arose, we had to disable that feature. You'll have to use image uploading sites which have been mentioned in the previous question in order to host your pictures.

13.) How can I be cool and join the AnimeNfo IRC channel to talk with members of this site?

There is a new gateway for IRC chatting so that you dont have to use an IRC program. The gateway for those scared of IRC programs is located here:

For the brave souls that want to use a real IRC program read on.

IRC can be somewhat confusing if you let it get to you. We'll try to make this as simple as possible using mIRC as an example.

i.) Join the irc.animenfo.com server. Click File ~> Select Server (or press ALT + E to bring up the dialogue box.) When you are prompted you can add the server. Click the Add button, and for a description just put something like "AnimeNfo Chat." You shouldn’t have to change the port options or add anything else except a group. Name the group something you can recognize like "AnimeNfo." Now just click Connect to Server.

ii.) Once you have joined the server you should see a list of names of channels come up. They are names that begin with the # sign. If you don’t seem them go to the command option on the menu (below the title bar.) A little dialog box should come up at this point type in #animenfo.

iii.) You should be now chatting in the IRC chat. Usually there will be 1-2 mods online although they may be online, that doesn't necessarily mean that they will be active."

14.) [Insert random anime] isn't in the database. Can you add it?
Yes, we can. Post a message in the appropriate forum. There are also a bunch of people that want to help the database grow, and the best way to do that is to send supers the information about the series. If you want a series quickly added to the database include this in an e-mail to supers:

i. Description of the anime
ii. Characters
iii. Voice actors
iv. Staff
v. Episode number (if available)
vi. A 120x140 picture of the anime (if you can)

The picture would be great if you can send it because that is what will be displayed in the database. You may also want to include a link to the page you got your information from.

15.) I want to find a particular review/reviewer, but the database is so complicated! How can I find it?
If you're having problems with finding a particular review or reviewer in the database, try this Tutorial Link which might answer some of your questions in finding it.

16.) I had a Review of mine removed, and I want it restored! How do i do that?

If you have gotten a review of yours removed contact the moderator that removed it with a request for it to be restored. Also, in the e-mail you send them please include the link to the page where your review is located in the deleted review section. For your convenience the link to the deleted review section is here:

We thought we would also mention that if you send a email to a moderator in order to get an account restored (see next question for e-mail list), please use an email account which will allow for us to send replies. Email addresses such as (insert nickname here)@gmx.com are notorious for not allowing us to send replies to users. Some moderators will not even bother to restore a review if they can't even communicate with the reviewer. So please, use an account such as hotmail. If you have not gotten a response through e-mail try sending the moderator a private message through the forum, or alert another moderator.

*17.) I want to get in touch with one of the staff members, how do i do that?

18.)My thread got locked, but I don't think it should have been! What do I do?
While we moderators try to do our best to keep the forum clean we aren't perfect. If your thread has been locked by mistake, or you don't feel that it should be locked PM a mod explaining the situation. If they feel it should be unlocked they will unlock it.

*19.) How do I change my E-mail Address? I can't seem to do it through the forum! Should I just make another user?
No. As the rules clearly state, clone accounts are NOT allowed. If you wish to change your e-mail address all you have to do is go back to http://www.animenfo.com and click on "My Preferences". There will be an option to change your e-mail address. Remember though you have to be logged in the main site to make the changes. If you continue to have issues with this, please PM an administrator regarding this issue.

20.) There is no forum for [insert anime]. Can you make one?
There is no active forum for new anime because they havent been made by the users yet. There is a forum set aside for every entry in the database, but it doesn't appear from the Forum Index without there first being a thread active in that section. The way to access it so you can post that first thread is to go to the database entry and select the link to Discuss This Anime

*Note: If you get the message "The forum you selected does not exist." you can post the thread you want to post in the Anime & Manga chat forum; however, you need to use the anime's title in the subject of the thread, and also make a note at the top of your post that the forum for this anime couldn't be created. That note will tell the administrators that we need to fix something.

21.) I'm having problems with another member on the forum!! He/She keeps harrassing me through Private Messages!
Things like this are not taken lightly by the animenfo forum staff. If you're having problem with another user which you feel is something that you will not be able to resolve on your own, or if you feel that the person is threatening you, send a PM to any one of the forum moderators and we'll be sure to look into the matter for you. Remember, Moderators are here for a reason.

22.) There's something i need to know that the FAQ doesn't answer!
The FAQ is an ever-expanding work in progress, items will be added on here to make things easier, but that doesn't change the fact that there will be things we would have missed.
That doesn't necessarily mean though we don't know the answer to your question, though. PM one of the moderators and we'll be glad to help you out to the best of our abilities.
