How old is Takuto? (Major Spoilers inside) Well, this is my third post and the third on this board :p
so...
How old was Takuto
... when he died?
... when he became a Shinigami?
... when he met Mitsuki?
As near as I can tell:
Takuto was 12 when he sang for Route L (Takuto tells us this).
The band broke up and he sang/drifted for some amount of time, this is the part I am having trouble figuring out.
I'm pretty sure that Takuto spent two years in Negi Ramen before meeting Mitsuki, based on what the florist says at the very end of the series (if this tidbit helps at all), so provided that he instantly became a grim reaping kitty...
I imagine that Mitsuki entered the orphanage when the band split, are there any clues to how long she spent there, and how long she has been with her grandmother?
In any case, I think he's 16, as that is Full Moon's age, and Eichi's (Eichi was 4 years older than Mitsuki, right?), so would make things more romantic , but that would mean Mitsuki only spent two years in the orphanage (which is possible!), and that Takuto was out riding at 14!
so...
???????? Is any of this right? Can someone help me, please! You can probably tell that I'm confused... Thanks!

i'm sorry to say i don't know the answer, but i'll look it up for you and hopefully i'll have an answer.

I didn't even think of doing that, thanks!
(highlight the spoiler parts if you've seen the anime, if you haven't it might just spoil a thing or two)
And thanks in advance, if you have some secret source or something :p
(you know Arina Tanemura, perhaps?)

Takuto was probably in his late 20s, because he was only 13 or 14 when Mitsuki was born I think. Takuto doesn't meet Mitsuki till she is 12...

Ack! That would make him a serious pedophile! He was 12 when the Kouyamas died (he sort of tells us this in the anime), and Mitsuki had to have already been born, so at most, he is 23 or 24, but I thought he was much younger. I wonder if the manga has any clues...

From what I can research, in the manga Takuto was 24 when he died. If you figure turning into a Shinigami 'froze' him at that age, then he was 24 when meeting Mitsuki. http://twilight-key.net/mangetsu-test/info_timeline.php I couldn't find anything on the anime yet, but I like to think he died younger than that.... 16ish. Just because he looked younger, and 24 is really too old for him to be crushing on Mitsuki.

I just rewatched episodes 44-46 in attempt to figure something else out, and it sort of cleared up this issue for me.
ULTRA spoiler, highlight if you've seen through the end already:
Takuto remembers Hazuki talking to Aoi about their unborn child, if you remember the scene where Hazuki pulls out a piece of paper with "Mangetsu", which character can also translate to "Mitsuki". This means that Mitsuki was born when Takuto was in Route L. So Takuto is 12 years older than Mitsuki.
GlitterKat obviously already recognized this from the anime.
From the final words by the florist in the final episode, I think it's safe to understand that Takuto has only been dead for 2 years.
This makes Takuto at minimum 22 when he meets Mitsuki!
So, semi-pedophilic relationship indeed, though I suppose it's proper to keep in mind that he made Mitsuki a 16 year old, she is much more mature for her age, and in later life 10 years is not such an important difference.
Still...

I think we're all missing the point here.
SPOILER HEREWhen Takuto died and became a Shinigami, he was the same age as when he died and since Mitsuki is currently 12 years old, if Takuto died at the age of 14(I think), that means their not very far apart in terms of age, their four years apart just like Mitsuki and Echi. In terms of Takuto's age "spiratually" I guess you can say that he would be considered a pedophile. However, I think we all can agree that Mitsuki is quite mature for her age to love Takuto and Takuto to love her.

Mitsuki was born at least when Takuto was 12, if not later. Mitsuki is now 12. Takuto died 2 years ago, when Mitsuki was 10. This means that Takuto would have been 22 when he died.
To show why I think Takuto has only been dead for two years, I quote the florist from episode 52:
"Two years ago, ever since a major accident on his bike, he can't remember anything..."
That is exactly what the florist says to Madoka and Florist Girl right before the closing credits roll and New Future plays on the radio.
Other revelant sources, and a sort of timeline:
- Takuto is in Route L at age 12. GlitterKat obviously recognized this, and it comes from the following scene in the anime: Aoi and Hazuki show him "Mangetsu", which also means "Mitsuki", indicating that Hazuki is about to have baby Mitsuki. [this is in episode 45 or 46]
- Aoi and Hazuki die, obviouly Mitsuki has been born, Takuto is 12 or 13.
- Mitsuki is now 10, Takuto dies. 10+12 = 22.
- Takuto becomes a Shinigami and joins Negi Ramen, Mitsuki is 11 years old.
- Takuto comes to take Mitsuki's life but ends up saving her instead. Mitsuki is now 12.
- Takuto resurrects, but cannot remember the two years year he spent as a Shinigami. He is 'full age' 24, but realistically only 22.
Seems Arina Tanemura is one sick little girl. Well, judging by most standards, anyway. I wish she'd just made Takuto 16, or even 18. *sigh*
Well, in 20 years their age difference won't matter so much...

Actually, he was 22 when he died.
And I cared because I was trying to write a fanfiction.

Yeah. I just found it awkward and less appealing as a romance story to have Takuto so much older. Eichi and Mitsuki made more sense, I still found it odd that they were in 'love', but I take it more of to mean that Mitsuki only began thinking of it like that after they parted, and only recognized that she loved him two or three years later.
This last part is my own thoughts, I don't think the anime really indicates it in any way... but it helps me see it as more possible.
Her feelings to Eichi are also why she understood her feelings for Takuto so quickly.
It makes sense, sure, and for her maturity after being a pop singer and a 16 year old, I can understand it all... but when I began writing my fanfiction and really began trying to figure out Takuto's age, I was sort of turned off by his being so much older.

He was 12 when Mitsuki was born, indeed. He then died ten years later, so would have been 22 at that time. He was only dead for two years before he met her again.

It doesn't matter how old he is. No matter how you look at it, he's still breaking the law.

Not in Japan.
13 years old for consentual sex.
Most likely the reason Mitsuki's birthday was so conveniently placed...
Mitsuki... Mitsuku...
Takuto ... Takayuki? I wonder...

After the first time I watched, I decided that he was probably 22 (if he didn't change age after death) or 24 (if he did). The age difference is a bit scary, yes, but this is what I've decided: He forgot all of his memories when he died, so he didn't know how old he was when he fell in love with Mitsuki. It's not his fault :3

yep In most animes there will be age diffences. take inuyasha for exampl: if you do the math inuyasha is like 100 yrs old. but no one cares. i mean its a show age shouldn't matter. pretear is another age weird show.

This thread is 3 years dead. Probably nobody cares to discuss about the ages of anime characters anymore. But yeah, age probably shouldn't matter.Horo is 600 years old. Lawrence is 25.
Anyway, end of story. I'm locking this thread. I don't think there'll be any new discussion in here anyway. BTW, don't revive long dead threads. It's rather pointless.
