 Is Yakumo a major character?

Define 'major'. From the number of appearances, how much depth they go into her character, etc etc etc, I'd say she's a supporting character, though an interesting one. (Er... Yakumo is the sister, right? Been a while since I've watched this and I've not seen SR2 yet though I've 2 eps in my PC.)

My feel from School Rumble is that they main characters are Tenma and Harima. That said, Tenma has some interesting friends that I'd really like to see in more prominent roles. And Yakumo, of course. As with you, I don't really like Tenma. I mean, I like the kawaii doji-ko and ten nen boke, but Tenma just isn't funny. This means that Harima's fascination with her makes him weird IMO, and is offputting.

This anime has two main themes, romantic comedy. While there are many animes in which the two elements are mixed nicely, there are also animes which don't do it so well. I feel that comedy at the expense of romance spoils the anime for me. That's why I can't enjoy this unless I'm in a light mood and can laugh with the comedy, ignoring the tragedy that is Harima. I guess it's the same with Love Hina although the comedy here is better. In conclusion, I'd rather stick with such titles like Ai Yori Aoshi and Aa! Megami-sama!

I just don't get it, Tenma is my favorite character why does nobody like her? To me she's like some of my favorite characters in Azumanga Daioh rolled into one. She's ditsy like Osaka, impulsive and determined like Tomo, and just cute and happy in ways like Chiyo and Sakaki. I think the main problem with School Rumble is the male characters (and Lala) are all retarded with the exception of Nara, but the poor kid never gets a chance.

Anyway, Yakumo is a cool character, I wish there was more of her and less of Hanai yelling how much he loves her... he NEVER stops yelling. One sided love characters generally piss me off, but he's the absolute most annoying character ever, worse than Tatewaki Kuno from Ranma 1/2, worse than Misa Amane from Death Note, etc. There are a lot of things that would make this show better, involving Yakumo in the story more is definitely one of them.
