| Gauche Suede is an ambitious Letter Bee, this world's equivalent of a postman. A Letter Bee makes a living traversing dangerous wastelands in order to deliver the mail and packages they carry between various towns.
One day, Gauche's package turns out to be a young boy. The boy, Lag Seeing, is all alone after some men came to the cottage where he was living and took his mother away with them. Gauche's charge is to deliver the boy into the care of his aunt. The journey is perilous, but Lag eventually reaches his destination safely.
A few years later, Lag himself resolves to be a Letter Bee.
