| In the distant future, the world's surface has been turned into a cracked, barren wasteland due to catastrophic pollution. Nothing lives here but for the huge Pollution Beasts, which have somehow adapted to this environment, and are inimical to human life. In this world, humanity can only live within one of the Regios, a large, mobile, enclosed city, which dots the world. These cities are separated by large tracts of wasteland, and travel between them can only be accomplished via weeks spent on board a Roaming Bus.
Layfon Alseif, from the city of Grendan, arrives at the academic city of Zuellni at the start of the new school year with hopes of starting a new life. However, within hours of his arrival, he is forced by the Student Council President to transfer into the Military Arts department. Further, he is recruited into the 17th Platoon by 3rd-year student Nina Antalk, the Platoon's leader.
Layfon is reluctant. After all, the reason he came to Zuellni was to get away from Military Arts. Despite this, he eventually reveals the overwhelming strength and power which earned him the Heaven's Blade, which is given to only the 12 strongest fighters of Grendan, whilst still a child.
