| A stone mask has been handed down through the generations amongst the Aztecs - the People of the Sun - an ancient civilization that thrived in Mexico. It is a mask of miracles, and gives the owner eternal life and power to become a true ruler. However, they don't know who made it or its purpose.
Time has passed; our story takes place in England at the end of the 19th century. Lord Joestar adopts the son of his benefactor, Dio, and gives him generous financial aid. However, an ambitious Dio plots to take over the Joestar estate in place of the only son, Jonathan. When Jonathan notices Dio's plot and questions him closely, Dio takes the mask and says, "I'm no longer human, JoJo".
The mask has a terrible power that changes a human being into an immortal monster. Now, the only way to fight against Dio, who becomes a tyrant slaughtering all with his tremendous power, is to use Hamon (Ripple), which harnesses the power of the sun. Jonathan receives training in the use of Hamon from Zeppeli, who has been chasing after the stone mask for years, and sets out to settle the score.
