Description
In the middle of the Heian period, famine and an epidemic has left the capital in ruins. However, in spite of that tragic situation, the samurai and a Yin-Yang fortune-teller continue the ugly battle over hegemony.

The Emperor, feeling sorry for his people's suffering, orders Minamoto No Raiko, who was an expert bowman, to search for the legendary comma-shaped bead which has supernatural powers that can bring about peace in the capital.

However, Raiko is stricken by the epidemic and takes to his sickbed. Therefore, the last daughter of Minamoto, Hikaru No Kimi, hides her femininity and undertakes the journey to find the bead in her elder brother's stead.

During her trip, she meets various kinds of people, and her comrades increase in number, including a faithful partner, Watanabe No Tsuna. Hikaru meets the handsome actor, Mansairaku, and the mysterious Yin Yang fortune-teller, Abeno No Seimei, who is maneuvering secretly with the darker elements of the government and Hikaru becomes involved in various incidents instigated by them.

Though she feels strongly for Mansairaku, Hikaru hides her feelings and continues her journey in the guise of a man. Her journey culminates when she throws herself into the battle for the future of the capital.
