| It's the year of 2003. Various robots have been developed in the world, and has become a great help in humans' activities. However, they are only machines that move by commands. Amidst those robots, Atom is the first in the world to be a robot with heart, invented by Professor Ochanomizu.
Due to the scheme created by the people who opposed the robots, the robots' credibility gradually diminished, and some of the robots were even persecuted by humans. Then, there appeared some robots who aimed to build a robots' country in order to save the robots from injustice treatments and to oppose human beings.
Also, the former minister of science, Nagamiya Tenma, built robots that oppose humans, and threw a written challenge to Atom. Why did Professor Tenma really persistent in challenging Atom? As Atom tried to find the reason behind it, he found out about the secret of his own birth that was connected to Professor Tenma. That was, the one who actually built Atom was not Professor Ochanomizu.
What is Professor Tenma's aim? What is the secret behind Atom's birth? What will be of the future of robots and humans? Being tossed around with various incidents, Atom keeps charging forward. Atom has only one wish. That is, "to build a world where people and robots can be friends".
