Coby was always a shy, cowardly and inconsiderate boy who had always dreamed of being a person of the marine. But he could not because he was kept a slave from Miss Arvida. One day when Luffy beat Arvida, he inspired Coby by letting him know that he was determined to be the pirate king, even if he dies in the process. Coby asked himself if he could do it too- run away from Arvida and go to the marine, doing things he desired and catching Arvida, even if it took his life away. Luffy just said he should go for it, and even brought him to the village where they departed. Even though a new day arises and Luffy is now a pirate, Coby now of the marine, they will still remain friends.

Coby is Luffy's first friend !
Luffy rescues him from Lady Arvida...
However, they dont stay together long because Coby's big dream is to become a member of the marine !
Because he is weak and a coward he starts from zero there... But he will work hard (together with his friend Helmeppo another marine) to become an officer later ... or even a general ... ;)
