Info: Megumi is a 22 year-old doctor. She is from the "Takani" family in "Aizu" who was famous for taking care of patients regardless of their social levels. In the "Kanryu-arc", Megumi is forced to make opium for the corrupt merchant, Takeda Kanryu. Although she successfully ran away and seek help from Kenshin, she is later kidnapped again. Kenshin eventually saves her by defeating Kanryu and the Oniwabanshu.

Born into a family in Aizu well known for medicine, Megumi's dream was to become a doctor. Her whole family however was killed in the war, and she became an orphan. She travelled to Tokyo to begin a new life. However, misfortune caused her to be apprenticed to a doctor who happened to be working for a drug dealer (Takeda Kanryu). After the doctor was killed, she was forced to make and distribute opium in the doctor's place, even to improve the drug so that only half the ingredients were needed. It was this drug that killed one of Sano's friends. However, in spite of that, he and the Kenshin-gumi help her escape the life of crime and misery, and she joins their little band.
