Akiba Rika is a 17 year old girl who has a serious heart problem and needs surgery. She had problems opening up to people, but when she met Yuuichi, she starts to open up more to him. Her father also had the same problem but her father had died during the surgery. She, at first, was unafraid of dying because she knew it was coming (because of what happened to her father), but Yuuichi then makes her realize that she wants to live and gave her strength to keep on going.

the heroine of the anime, she's selfish, book worm and as the same age as the hero, she doesn't have much time to live due to a weak heart. in the anime, she learns to learn to want to live as she and the hero develops their feelings for one another.
