Even before the gate between the worlds was opened, there were from time to time humans got stranded in the Devil realm. Since there's no way of going back then, these humans settled down and have their offspring with the locals.
Mayumi is one such mix-blood, whose different eye-color is the most obvious trademark of her kind. While her devil bloodline gave her magical powers, because of her human bloodline is stronger, her magical powers is not strong.
Mayumi has a very curious nature and you can always see her carrying a digital camera. And from time to time, this self-styled paparazi would sneak a few shots of Rin with one of his "bride-to-be" and later extort him for lunch money...
