Ikari Gendou

Go back to character page

Gendo Ikari is the cold and ruthless commander of the top secret UN Agency NERV whose purpose is to destroy the Angels. His emotional distance from his son, Shinji, who pilots Eva Unit 01, is clearly seen throughout the series. Contrasted with this is his closeness to Rei, pilot of Unit 00 - something that puzzles Shinji.

the least likeable charicter you will ever see. Not entirely evil just enough to make you hate him for the things he does. unemotional and uncaring places little value on human lives not even that of his son. he does however have a soft spot for rei

Gendo changed his family name to 'Ikari' after marrying Ikari Yui after the 2nd impact. As the father of Shinji, he never really cared about his son. The death of his wife however totaly changed Gendo's personality, he is more involved in his projects than ever. He has set out a goal to defeat all Angels and a hidden agenda of his own to complete his Human Complementation project in order to reencouter his late wife. Gendo has a very decisive personality, he will set out to do something, that he will complete in the end no matter what. A cruel attitude that made him calm in all situations.

Gendou Ikari os one man at war with God. His heart is a vacuum inhospitable to the humanity he methodically drives from those around him.

Divine judgement is at hand, and the visionary Ikari will not rest until man is no longer subject to Sacred Law. NERV is the club in his raised fist.

A complex man. He loved his wife, neglected his son, loved Rei like his wife, hated his lovers (Naoko and Ritsuko Akagi), and loved/hated his job.

He used people throughout his life to get what he wanted and never thought twice about it. He only cared about "the goal", and never about humanity as a whole or as individuals. His only care after his beloved Yui vanished was to stop the Angels and complete his own form of the Third Impact which would reunite him with the only being that ever truly loved him.

Only when the world was ending did he feel any regret, when he whispered that he was sorry to his son.
