when asked by Kanbei to help him, he agreed out of a desire to fight again. He clearly enjoys tough fights with Nobuseri (like when they were ambushed at the exit to Shikimoribito territory) and knows how to keep his calm during fights.

Shichirouji was Kanbei's right hand man during the previous war. After being severely injured, he was floating in a river in an escape pod (-looking thing) and was found by a geisha (not sure what she really is called). Since then (three years have passed), he has lived with her at the tea house near Kougakyo when Kanbei comes to visit him with Kirara & co. They were being chased by Maro and Kanbei asks Shichirouji to join them.
