She isn't really an orphan, just someone who was abandoned by her mother and had a dead father. Her mother abandoned her after her father died because she wasn't strong enough to take care of Yuzuyu by herself and beat her in one occasion that probably made Yuzuyu cry and say "i hate you" which just made her mother really sad and leave. She loves her mother a lot and would probably do anything to get her back. I personally think that Yuzuyu has a crush on Kippei because she told Kippei's brother that she'll marry Kippei when she grows up but now she is giving him up because she knows there is someone he cares about.

Yuzuyu is Kippei's 5-year-old cousin. Her father recently died, and her mother disappeared. Effectively orphaned, she has come to live at the Katakura residence.
