Going by height, I'd say she's most likely a year or two older than Taro. Mariel is the head maid and most motherly of the staff; understanding, loving, kind, sweet, softspoken, and caring, Mariel is probably any man's dream. She is very close and attached to Taro and seems to have a great amount of affection for him besides that of a simple Master-Employee relationship; she almost seems to love him and is somewhat the object of his unspoken affection, too.
A gag that seems to be a theme is that they often get too close for Taro's comfort and the lead of the maids next to Konoye.

Mariel is the head maid of the Hanaukyo house, whose duty resembles that of a butler. She's the first maid that greet Taro, and seems to be the only one that Taro open his heart to.
