Alphonse Elric- the sweet, kind, gentle , studious younger brother of Edward Elric. Alphonse is a sweet boy who likes small strays that are helpless(usually feline), and is pure,(a bit naive),and charming, to those around him. These traits are considered as childish tendencies(moe), the reason is said to be because he has a stunted emotional maturity (though, still sometimes more mature than his brother) from not growing physically at all. He basically stays the same age in the armor. Edward, feeling a tremendous guilt over affixing Al to something that won't grow or have senses, doesn't care what happens to himself and would without second thought give his life, to give Al his body. Alphonse is completely against Edward dying or being separated from him, so Al usually stops his brother from going too far for him. Obviously, this makes Alphonse love and idolize his brother even more. Alphonse is known to be his tough-as-steel older brother, Edward's only weak or soft spot; Ed shows no such gentleness towards any other.

I haven't got a picture, but I'm one of the biggest FMA lovers in the world. Anyways...

Alphonse Elric the the kind and lovable one of the two main characters. He and Ed, before the real beggining, had the most tragic tale in the world.

Not too long after they were born, the Elrics' father left them to explore the world to work on his alchemy. They were left with just their mother, whom they loved dearly. Al didn't pay much attention to the factor that their dad had left them alone, only focusing on when he comes back. One day, when Al was 10, they arrived home after a day of fishing to see their mother collapsed on the floor, her breathing shallow.

Eventually, even with medical attention, their mother died of the sickness. One day, Ed and Al were cold and hungry inside their home, when Ed went inside his fathers lab to read through his many books. Finding what he needed, he called Al and the two designed a human transmutation circle, one that would produce the form of a human body, more as a Humunculi, or false human.

Part way through the transmutation, both were ready to believe it would work, when something went wrong. Al and Ed began to feel pain, and pulling on their bodies. Al was calling to Ed, reaching for his hand, but Ed's leg was being taken in return for his mother. Al's body was slowly dissapearing, as Ed's leg for the same reasons.

Ed used a symbol of soul binding made of his own blood from his leg to bind Al's soul to a nearby suit of armor. After that Ed and Al went out on millions of adventures to find the clasicly described Philosophers Stone. They meant to use it to restore each other's bodies. In the end of the series, though, the two find that human transmutation is impossible, even with the Stone, and... Well, I don't know what happens at the very end, but I know alot from reveiws and interviews from the makers.
