Ai Tanabe is a rookie straight out of training. Given she barely passed her training, she is assigned to the Debris Section. Like Hachimaki, Tanabe is also an "EVA Specialist"; however, she is quite unskilled at spacewalking and Hachimaki calls her a rookie for her entire first month or two of work. She calls Hachimaki her "sempai" since he trains her more than anyone else. She seems to develop a crush on him fairly early in the series.
Tanabe has a very strong sense of justice. She has A LOT of love and Yuri and Fii hope she can use it to bust down the wall around Hachimaki's heart.
