Akiba Kisaragi is a big time music producer who was once the queen of pop, about seventeen years before the story is set. Kisaragi was a pop singer who fell in love with the painter, Sakuramiya Yoh. They married and had three girls, the names of which are not revealed. Shortly after the birth of their youngest daughter, Yoh passed away.
Heartbroken and depressed, Kisaragi took her daughters on a boat trip, apparently to commit suicide and leave her daughters to a good home, yet they were tossed overboard. Kisaragi and her daughters were seperated, and she was even more broken.
Kisaragi was very much alone for a few years afterward, but went back into the music industry. She was written a letter, and it was from a girl named Reika. She adopted Reika, and she soon became 'Princess Reika', another pop sensation.
She began a music school, and she taught three girls, Nozomi, Yuki, and Akari, whom soon became R-3; and they are also her long-lost daughters...
