Nara Shikamaru - a.k.a lazy bum genius of Konoha

Shikamaru is your typical laid-back, easy-go-lucky guy, who loves to sleep and go cloud-watching. He brands almost everything as 'troublesome', from picking up a pencil, to his mother, to his pesky teammate Yamanaka Ino. Yep, and he is famous for a time when he had failed an exam way back in the ninja academy beacuse he was too lazy to pick up a pen. But, on the other hand, he proves to be one of the most promising ninja of his generation, being the only one to have reached chuunin level even if he failed the chuunin exam. Asuma, his sensei, tells us more. After conducting a different kind of exam for Shikamaru through the use of shougi, a mind-strategy game, Asuma proves that Shika is no ordinary ninja. With an IQ of over 200, the young Nara is appointed leader of a five-man team on a mission to rescue Uchiha Sasuke. He then realizes that there's more to life than cloud-watching, but heartaches, pressure, stress and others as well.

He has mastered his family's special move which is the Kagemane no Jutsu (Shadow Binding Technique).

Many fans have assumed a special relationship between him and his teammate Yamanaka Ino, but true or not, ShikaIno had been one of the most well-loved pairings of the said series.

(oh, and mind you, Shika is definitely HOT, HOT, HOT...)

Although being a lazy boy, he's one genius strategist with an IQ of over 200. Being able to see through situations wery well, he can make a concrete plan that sees through many possibilities and choose the most effective one. Though lacking physical strength, his inteligence and fast thinking makes up for it.

He was also the only Genin among the rookie nine who passed the first Chunun exam after their batch graduated.

Shikamaru is one of the members of Konoha's Genin squad team 10 together with Yamanaka Ino and Akimichi Chouji.

He is also one of Naruto's childhood playmates.

Nara Shikamaru is a lazy guy. He loves to lie on his back and gaze at clouds all day. He finds most things very troublesome. His missions? Troublesome. His teammate Ino? Troublesome. His mom? Troublesome. You get the idea.

So why did he even become a ninja? The truth is because he thought that becoming a ninja required little or no skills and it would be hassle free.

His major technique is a shadow binding jutsu. And he has an amazingly high IQ.

"How troublesome."
Nara Shikamaru typically mumbles this, and it summarizes his personality pretty well as well.
Shikamaru starts the Naruto series labeled as a lazy guy, who actually does just about as bad on tests as Naruto does (And this is quite astounding). Later on though, we find out he is actually very intelligent, and the only reason his grades are so paltry is because he finds all the work quite troublesome. Frankly, he'd rather just lay down and look up at the clouds.

To start the series, Shikamaru is on a three-ninja team with Chouji and Ino. What sets him apart from the other two (Who seem to fight based on emotion), is the fact that he fights only after analyzing a situation totally. Shikamaru never goes into a battle totally un-prepared. After showing his ingenius battle strategies, Shikamaru was promoted to the rank of Chuunin (And was the only person who took that particular exam to get promoted.)

Shikamaru goes on to lead a team in search of Uchiha Sasuke, though he doesn't personally care for him. This shows his extraordinary loyalty to assosciates of his. Though he may be a lazy guy, Shikamaru would never abandon a friend, and that is truly important in the up-bringing of a man.

Like Naruto, Shikamaru has a specialty jutsu (Or technique). This is the Kage Mane no Jutsu (Shadow Bind). He uses it to capture opponents and control their movements. As you can imagine, this is very useful when on a team, because while in a shadowbind...one of Shikamaru's team-mates can go in for the kill. He can do variations of the shadow bind, but that's another story for another day.

Nara Shikamaru is truly one of the most admirable characters in anime history. Even if he is lazy, he still cares for those around him. And in the end, isn't that all that matters?

How troublesome indeed.
