YUKIMURA SANADA
Known as a wise general in the Warring States era, Yukimura fought with his father in the Western Army while his brother joined the Eastern Army led by Tokugawa Ieyasu during Sekigahara. Now his intentions are unknown, although he seems to want Ieyasu dead. Kyo entertains him, and the two work together several times during the series, although his main loyalties appear to be with Sakuya.

Yukimura Sanada, another REAL character from Japanese history, although not as famous as Tokugawa or Nobunaga. Considering he is obviously one of the major characters, it's rather strange to know that he isn't a Muramasa master (yet?<-- as of 20th episode). He is one of those characters that speak controversial, open-ended, mystifying, intriguing, puzzling statements, although, among all of them, he seems to be the most light-hearted-- but definitely not the easiest to figure out. It's highly difficult to tell which side Yukimura is on, but one can safely conclude that his allegiance is to himself. Both wise and intelligent, Yukimura is power-hungry and can be considered 'evil' as his ingenious plans mostly consist of how to turn the Sanada clan into leaders of Japan. A retired samurai, following him is a group of ninjas, which include Saicho and Sasuke, whose loyalty to Yukimura is outstanding. They will carry out any order of his without question and constantly place his safety above their own.
Yukimura loves sake and has no qualms about posing as a girl (IMHO, he looked even more handsome then). Even without a Muramasa, he is quite the formidable swordsman and, at very rare times, can even be seen fighting withOUT a sword. He almost always seem to know more than he lets on.
***He is one of the many proofs of the series' deviation to real history. In history, Yukimura Sanada, son of Masayuki Sanada, died during the seiges on Osaka in 1614-- led by Hidetada Tokugawa (Benitora). In the series, however, they become friends-- somewhat. Acquaintances at the least.
