Merle is something like a tiger(she has orange-tan skin and stripes on her arms) and is called by looks, a "catgirl". She is very playful and at times extremely childish, finding things she likes and running off with them even if the thing she's taken a liking to belongs to someone else. Merle was taken in by Van and might have instantly fell in love/developed a crush on him because of it. She is very possessive and doesn't like it when other girls, namely Hitomi, get too close to him for her liking. Speaking of her feelings for him, Merle often throws her arms around his neck and licks him, despite the fact that Van obviously only sees her as an adopted sister or close friend.

Such a brat. Merle is a cat-girl who was rescued by Balgus when she was very young. She's completely infatuated with Van, and usually acts quite jealous and catty (HAH!) toward Hitomi. Inside, however, she's got quite a soft side, and actually displays concern for someone other than herself or Van at times... That's pretty rare, though.
