Kurapika is a member of the Kurta tribe, a reticient group of people that chose to live in obscurity. They possess a pair of eyes that turn flaming red in times of anger or emotional agitation. The legendary brilliance of such scarlet eyes caused them to be in high demand as a collector's treasure. A few years ago, the Phantom Troupe (Genei Ryodan) came to Kurapika's hometown and massacred all the members of his tribe, leaving behind scores of dead bodies with eyes gorged out in their wake. As the last surviving member of his tribe, Kurapika vows to gain back all the stolen eyes of his people, by tracking the Phantom Troupe down and seeking revenge, even if he must sacrifice his life in the process.
Personality: Kurapika is a level headed and intelligent individual, possessing knowledge of a great variety of things. Of sound judgement, his in-depth and cool analysis has saved his friends from the brink of death many times. Needless to say, his quickmindedness and bargaining technique has also saved him from being killed by oppressively powerful enemies like Hisoka.
Fighting Ability: Kurapika is a great, balanced fight in any environment. He has two large tanto hidden below his over shirt. Sometimes (usually when his emotions gain altitude) Kurapika activates the

Gender: MALE
Kurapika is MALE. Watch the anime, read the manga. He sits like a boy, he stands like a boy, he moves like a boy. Considering the number of bishies in anime and manga I don't know WHY people insist on thinking otherwise.
1) Kurapika was shown half-naked on the cover of volume 14 and although anyone can say he's a flat chested girl, if you know anything about anatomy or drawing, you will realize that males and females are not drawn alike. Besides, there are legalities that prevent people from publishing manga volume covers with naked people on them, especially naked girls.
2)It was stated in the Hunter's Guide that Kurapika is MALE. The Hunter's Guide was created by Togashi, Hunter x Hunter's mangaka.

Kurapika~
Definately a girl.
Kurapika belongs to the Kuruta tribe, who possess a pair of eyes which turns red when angry or aggitated.
Her tribe had been massacred by the Spiders and members of the Kuruta tribe had their eyes dug out -with the exception of Kurapika- because the "wonderous" scarlet eyes were said to be "beautiful".
Now, Kurapika has set her heart on taking revenge on those who killed the Kuruta tribe- and also to gain back all the scarlet eyes of her extinct tribe.
When one in the Kuruta tribe is not angry/aggitated, one has blue eyes. Kurapika wears black contact lens to hide her eyes when there ever came a time where she would get angry.
She is the Gugennka type, meaning she can "choose" which weapons she wants, and Kurapika chose chains. Her right hand is covered in chains and each finger has its own use. Her smallest finger; from it, a small and sharp blade. Her fourth finger for tracking and third for controlling the strong chains.
She also had a little attitude problem when she first started her training with her coach. She had told him on her plans for getting revenge and her coach had advised her time and time again to give up on her plans, making her flare up and dislike him even more. When she completed her training, she argued to train somemore- to reach her goal; to get revenge. Her coach had,again told her to give up but by her sheer determination, she managed to convince him to let her stay and train longer.
Her friends would include, Leorio, Gon and Killua.

Nen ability
Kurapica is a Gugenka, one that can fashion objects that act according to his imagination. The weapon that he creates is a unique form--extending from his fingers of his right hand are five chains, which were specially created to deal vengeance upon the Phantom Brigade.
When Kurapica's eyes turn red, his special ability, Tokushitsu, surfaces. All nen abilities besides Gugenka would be increased to 100% efficiency, making him virtually invincible during this span of time.
To increase his effectiveness against the formidable Phantom Brigade, Kurapica places strict restrictions on the usage of his nen blades:
Use of each finger:
Thumb- Healing
Shaped like a cross, it cures wounds by drawing from the Kyouka ability. When Kurapica is in tokushitsu, it can heal serious injuries in seconds.
Third finger- Immobility
Wraps around enemies, restricting movement. Also forcefully causes captured person to enter setsu (a crippling effect that diminishes their nen abilities). Restricted only in dealing with brigade members, with the violation resulting in Kurapica's death.
Fourth finger- Investigation
Kurapica uses this frequently under normal situations, for defence and attack purposes. It is also useful for other investigative activities, like determining the location of missing individuals.
Small finger- Judgement
A small nen blade enters the victim's body and stabs the heart. Kurapica sets a condition and if the victim breaches it, he would lose his life. Only can be of use when Kurapica is in tokushitsu.
